Firebreathers breathless in season opener vs Les Carmoni de Fabreville

Four unanswered second period goals and a hat trick by L-C Desmarais helped Les Carmoni de Fabreville take the first of two games. Considering the circumstances, the Firebreathers just ran out of breathe having only four players dressed giving them no changes to their bench. S.Fraga did all he possibly could not conceding a goal for the longest of time. It was only until the 7:34 minute mark of the second period that the goals started going in. D.Desmarais was finally able to crack the ice before L-C Desmarais went on his scoring tear riffling three straight markers. Still with only four players, the Fire breathers had to endure another battle. And once again they held their own only to fall by one goal. After a low scoring 1-1 first period, Les Carmoni de Fabreville’s captain came through to snap the dreaded tie. M.Croteau regained the lead for his club which was just enough to hold on till the remainder of the match. P.Corbin got enough help in front of him to collect his second straight win of the night between the pipes. Out of their four total goals, M.Gagnon was able to participate in all of them for the Firebreathers.

Team X felt like tourists in double whammy vs Punishers

When the effort is there the results will be justified. The Punishers were simply to strong on this night and got what they deserved against a side that looked flat in both games. Apart-from a few decent stretches, Team X was pretty much chasing their opponents for most of the night. An early 2-0 lead grew for the Punishers that eventually included a pair by their d-man M.Gagnon, who used a heat seeking missile to get one through P.Assadi. A.Dayan was equally productive accumulating three points and F.Russo did more than his share to earn a 6-3 win between the pipes. The second contest may have had the same score but the effort was slightly better of the side of Team X. The difference this time came early on with the veteran side grabbing a 1-0 lead and a 2-1 lead. However, as time went on the energy level started to diminish. The Punishers kept on working which eventually paid dividends .For a second straight game, A.Dayan made some noise riffling three goals and a helper .M.Gagnon reloaded his canon by blasting another fireball passed P.Assadi, who just felt he had enough at that point. A.Centis was also a force collecting two goals and a pair of helpers. The Punishers completed another good night and have convinced everyone once more that they will be the team to beat in this division.

Firebreathers add reinforcements to salvage 1 point to the standings

Having absolutely no choice to add some bodies to their lineup, the Firebreathers gave themselves a better chance to compete against the 1 Timer. Unfortunately, the first game didn’t go so well. The men in orange used a second period break out posting three unanswered goals to take the game 4-1.T.Daigneault was behind making two happen while S.Koch and newly added K.Certosini took care of the other tallies. The Firebreathers scored their lone goal on the power play courtesy of B.Daniele as the only player to solve F.Koch. With that game out of the way, the Firebreathers finally had their best period of the night. But as good as that opening frame was, the same couldn’t be said for the second half. Usually a 5-1 lead after one frame is more than sufficient in a two period format but not in this case. The 1 Timer showed lots of character and resilience by responding in a massive way. The comeback effort was led by K.Certosini, who struck twice and a late tally by the captain S.Koch ,who was able to force the extra time. Once the shootouts hit, the momentum just carried over for the 1 Timer. T.Daigneault was the only player out of all the attempts that saw his goal go in while F.Koch rebounded strong denying three straight Firebreathers breakaways. It was a game that the Firebreathers missed out on some extra points. But the season is still very young and the potential is there as Joe DeStefano will make sure to get his troops better prepared for next time. P.Cardillo, S.Fraga and B.Daniele were very productive in the loss as all three players combined for a total of eleven points.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Thierry Daigneault of the 1 Timer. The speedy forward was clutch in both games vs the Firebreathers. In the opening contest, he scored two straight goals to help lead his club to a 4-1 victory, and in the second game, he was the only player to score in the shootout to complete the mini series sweep.
