(7)Team Cuba vs Shockers(5)
Desperation kicks in late for Team Cuba, Shockers shocked with result
Just when they felt deflated down and out, Team Cuba decided to stand up instead. The trailing side slowly but surely woke up- from the dead and somehow pulled a rabbit out of their hat. If there is such a thing like a Hail Mary play in ball hockey, D.Ramada may have introduced it by riffling a desperate slap shot-from his own end that somehow found its way to the back of the net. That goal leveled the game at five goals apiece with just over 90 seconds remaining. Still, the game wasn’t over and Team Cuba wasn’t done just yet. While everyone felt that this contest was headed for overtime suddenly changed when E.Girouard one timed a perfect feed-from a very familiar line mate in S.Robineault. With that late tally, Team Cuba led for the first time in the game where they just had to kill off a few more seconds before D.Ramada capped things off in an empty cage. The Shockers were by far clearly the quicker team that generated more chances in this contest which only forced Team Cuba to sit back and wait for their opportunities. In tonight’s case it worked out as a very good start to a double header night.
(3)Butchers vs Lumberjacks(2) O.T
Short bench comes to bite Lumberjacks in rear end
Six players and an overtime loss left the Lumberjacks asking what if. Although the battle and effort was there, playing in extreme heat with a short bench can only be a recipe for disaster. But that wasn’t the Butchers concern as they made sure to keep working hard and use a deeper bench to collect a pair of important points. After receiving a feed-from A.Jalilvand, Y.Gazura and the Butchers were able to celebrate the win only 40 seconds into the sudden death frame. J.DeSua and M.Zampino collected goals as well for the Butchers while C.Gingras continues to do his thing by bagging both tallies for the Lumberjacks. G.Zapatelli endured enough heat to collect the win in net over N.Mackeen, who was just as brilliant keeping the game as close as it was.
(7)Team Cuba vs Fatal Demons(5)
Team Cuba carbon copies results in perfect double header night
Its one thing to beat the Shockers, and its another to defeat the Fatal Demons on the same night but Team Cuba defied the odds in this case. This time they played with the lead by striking incredibly early thanks to a hard wrist shot by F.Bchara. His tally set the tone only 5 seconds into the contest which led to another quick goal by S.Sicuso. But the Fatal Demons weren’t too concerned as they eventually turned a 3-1 deficit into a 3-3 tie. The only problem was that E.Girouard and S.Robineault couldn’t be contained long enough. The dynamic duo were at it again producing much of Team Cuba’s offense. S.Robineault collected five more points that included a hat trick while E.Girouard scored once along with setting up three tallies. It came in a losing cause but L.Dulcetta showed once again that he was dynamite out there. The veteran did most of the damage participating in all five goals that included four markers.
The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Eric Girouard of Team Cuba. The right handed sniper produced eight points in two games that included a late winner versus the Shockers.
