Monday September 4(Finals)
Stones limit Firebreathers to only one goal to win 4 vs 4 division championship
O.Caillet turned in another stellar performance, stopping all but one shot in two games. Both net minders stole the show in the opening contest as each side settled for a low scoring 1-1 draw. That result forced the goaltenders to do some extra work in the shootout in what proved to be a pivotal game one. After sending three skilled players from both sides, A.Bergomi tallied for the Stones while D.Gagnon responded for the Firebreathers extending the shootouts to an extra round. It was by then where the series got decided, with K.Aruajo using a swift back hand deak that got the better of S.Morante. While the match ended off in a goaltending duel, the second contest was more about the Stones taking control. By the time the first period ended, this series was pretty much over and done with. K.Araujo, P.Santullo and A.Bergomi each scored for a commanding 3-0 lead. The Firebreathers did have plenty of time to crawl back into it but there was no way O.Caillet and the Stones defensive game would allow in sort of collapse. The Stones quietly made plenty of noise in their post season run. They used every aspect of their game that stretches-from their forwards to their defence and of course the goaltending. Teams always felt like were playing against a trap, unable to create any numbers or getting high percentage scoring chances. When combining the right players with a solid system in place, it just goes to show that positive results will occur more often than none. In tonight’s case, the Stones just simply played their game and got what they deserved in the end. On behalf of Hockeyballe.com, congratulations go out to Sebastian Sicuso and the Stones for winning their first 4 vs 4 championship.
