(7)Legacy vs Smooth Sailors (6) S.O Game 1

Payam Assadi lifts Legacy in crucial game 1

Payam Assadi saved his best for last. The stage was set for the crafty forward after scoring twice in the third period. With the opportunity to win the game, P.Assadi delivered as he deked to his right to slip the ball behind M.Gravano securing a huge game one victory. The Smooth Sailors couldn't have asked for a better start, and all thanks to their sniper up front. M.Testolina scored three goals in every possible way. Hoping and figuring a three goal cushion could have been sufficient clearly wasn't the case for the Smooth Sailors, who gave up five straight. However, just like their opponent, Legacy's momentum also came to a halt. A 5-3 third period lead wasn't enough to close out the game as the Smooth Sailors responded thanks to J.Mandracchia and his captain J.Palmitano. Unfortunately for the two sides, a dreaded shootout was left to determine a winner. Both teams made the right choices sending three of their finest when it comes to these situations. The game was ultimately decided on the last breakaway attempt taken by P.Assadi.

(5)Smooth Sailors vs Legacy (4) Game 2

Resilient Smooth Sailors bounce back to even series

The Smooth Sailors picked up a pivotal must win game over Legacy, and they can thank the heroics of their captain for it. With the game all knotted at 4-4, J.Palmitano re directed a long shot-from S.Minkiewicz giving no chance to C.Stavriadis to react. It seemed like both teams didn't care much for tightening it up or playing a strong man on man game. Instead, they just went for it relying heavily on their top guns. It had playoff intensity but no defensive structure. Apart-from P.Nakhle netting a pair, the scoring was balanced-from the two sides. Legacy entered the third period up 3-2, and at one point 4-3, but couldn't protect their lead long enough. Somehow, the Smooth Sailors found enough energy on a depleted bench to battle back and extend the series for a third and deciding match.

(3)Legacy vs Smooth Sailors(2) Game 3

Legacy hang on to claim D Thursday title

Legacy have survived a torrid final battle to knock out the Smooth Sailors and claim the D Thursday division title. The game started out pretty good for Legacy getting a pair of early goals on deceptive slap shot- from S.Athanasopoulos and M.DoCouto. But as it's been their theme throughout the entire series, the Smooth Sailors were far-from calling it quits. They managed to pull themselves within one when J.Palmitano blasted a one timer late in the game. Even though the clock showed just over two minutes remaining, this contest felt like an eternity considering how it played out. However, Legacy wasn't going to let this slip away, especially against a battered and depleted line up. The Smooth Sailors just didn't have enough steam to gain possession in hopes of forcing overtime. As expected, this series had all the elements of two very good teams going at it. Both teams fought hard, played a physical game with two top tier offenses going head to head. It was evident that they both deserved to reach this stage. On behalf of Hockeyballe.com, congratulations go out to Peter Chiotis, Payam Assadi, George Panagiotopoulos, Tasso Bozinakis and the rest of Legacy for getting it done.

In a team that doesn't rely on goaltending, both net minders did make the difference tonight. Frank Baratta and Costa Stavriadis share the honours as MVP of the series, each earning the SalumiVino players of the night.

(2)Black Knights vs GK(9) Game 2

GK pound Black Knights to force a deciding game

There was no doubt that every GK player said they would be better in this game. And although nothing is ever for certain, it may as well have been an iron clad guarantee that this series had more miles to it. There is far too much talent and experience not to believe that the GK's big guns, who were somewhat dormant in game 1, wouldn't start firing in this must win contest. Clearly they were much better, and it started to show as of the second frame where they ran up the score on four unanswered goals. K.Kuczmarski, B.Jutras and M.David showed up to play as all three players each scored twice. For the GK, the offensive explosion was to be expected. It's one thing to keep them at bay for one game but extremely difficult for two in a row. The Black Knights understood this and perhaps weren't prepared enough to close out the series. Both teams will have a few days to rest up and prepare for their biggest match of the year. After taking game two rather easily, the GK feel confident about their chances heading into game three. The question becomes how can the Black Knights overcome a reality check? Knowing that they took game one of this series, T.Iannitto will have to go back to basics and inspire his troops that anything is still possible.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Matthew David of the GK. In what was a must win game, M.David led the way up front accumulating four points that included two assists at pivotal points during the match.

(4)GK vs Black Knights (7) Game 1

Horrible penalty kill costs game 1 for GK

Normally, there is a connection between crummy penalty killing and crummy goaltending but L.Augustin-Registe wasn't to blame in tonight's case. Structurally, though, down a man the GK didn't have answers giving up three power play goals. And to make matters worse, they also let in a shorthanded marker that perhaps dictated the direction of this contest. Y.Tifu was able to cut a play before finding himself with plenty of space to rip a bullet passed the GK net minder. The Black Knights showed that they were geared up despite a slow start. After overcoming a 2-0 deficit, the rhythm started to settle in and the opportunities eventually came. While many contributed in many ways, J.Gagne was arguably the one who helped orchestrate the offense. The slick forward was one of the stories in this match accumulating five points that included a hat trick. Another reason for the win was attributed to the Black Knights net minder. The GK, after finding themselves up 2-0, had more than enough chances to widen the margin only to hit a wall. F.Gagnon shook off some early rust and became an immediate factor as to why his club leads 1-0 in this series. Surely, the Black Knights are satisfied after a solid performance but know that this series isn't close to being over. In order to defeat the GK, everything must go right. The question becomes can they repeat a similar performance in tomorrow's crucial match.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Fred Gagnon of the Black Knights. Everyone-from both sides would make the case that F.Gagnon was vital to the Black Knights victory. The game could have turned ugly if it wasn't for the net minder standing on his head on a few occasions.

1 Timer puts an end to a great run, winners of 4vs4 second division

With a pair of very close victories against the Excalibur on Monday night, the 1 Timer laid claim to the 4vs4 second division title. The 1 Timer expected nothing more than to getting it done, especially after playing with each other for quite a few years. The team has a good mix of offensive and defensive players backed by a strong goaltender in F.Koch. A big priority was to have a full bench, something that they were able to floor all season long. Both games were extremely close ultimately decided by only one goal if not counting two empty net markers in the second game. M.Carpentier riffled a couple in the first encounter including the winner while J.Guye-Perrault followed up in the ensuing match with an identical performance. Another key area for the two victories was due to taking the lead. The Excalibur never had the luxury of forcing their opponent to open up, instead, they were the ones having to chase the game. Y.St-Georges provided plenty of offense netting three out of his clubs four goals in the losses. After having a great regular season and playoff run, the 1 Timer couldn't have asked for a better and more deserving finish. Congratulations go out to Joel Guye-Perrault and the rest of his teammates for getting it done.

(1)Excalibur vs 1 Timer (4) Game 2

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Joel Guye-Perrault of the 1 Timer. His five points in two games made a major impact for his clubs overall production in the most important night of the year.

National rally-from two down to beat Lefts Over's twice in shootout

Over the course of a season, there are bound to be a few games that stand out more than the rest. Mark tonight's pair of wins as one of those occasions for the National. Trailing by two goals after dropping the first encounter by a 1-0 score, National emptied their emotional tank and rallied for a 3-2 victory to keep the series alive.  O.Meilleur was the only player for either team to convert in the shootout. It was clear that National played with more urgency which helped shift the momentum in their favour. Still, plenty of work was still ahead for the two sides having to play a 12 minute game followed with a potential five minute overtime period. And considering how tight they played one another, neither side was able to score during that time which forced another shootout to decide the series. This time, S.Laplante was the lone scorer as the crafty d-man dazzled his way through netting the lone shootout marker. M.Gallant was flawless again stopping a total of six shootout attempts to end what was a thrilling semi final round. At no point during the entire night did National ever play with the lead. Unfortunately for the Left Over's, they just couldn't get that extra little break.

HBHA Seniors reach familiar territory after downing the Family

The HBHA Seniors main players kept finding ways to score, and E.Parent was solid once more to help send his club to the final. Both wins came with every player committing to a full out effort. G.Vouloumanos was very productive in the opening contest participating in all three goals to secure a 3-1 victory. The second win had plenty of balance as four different players took turns finding the back of the net. The Family would have liked to try and play with the lead but never had the chance as they fell behind very early in both games. A.Perrault scored two out of his clubs three goals. After taking both games and outscoring their opponent 7-3, the HBHA Seniors no doubt want to hold that trend, especially now that they find themselves in the final.

(3)HBHA Seniors vs The Family (1) Game 1

(2)The Family vs HBHA Seniors (4) Game 2

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Mario Gallant of the National. By denying six straight shootout attempts, and allowing only three goals in two games, it's safe to say that the net minder is a major reason why National will be challenging for the Masters 35+ title.

The Masters 35+ division is now down to only two teams. The HBHA Seniors will face off against a resilient opponent. Both teams have plenty of structure and won't give each other much on the offensive part of the game. Like most good teams battling it out at this level, look for all the little things to make the difference.

(4)Bramabulls vs Knights (1) Game 1

Bramabulls use a good start as priority

The final round of the playoffs got underway on Wednesday night with the Bramabulls and the Knights opening up their series. It was the favoured Bramabulls who took game 1 with the help of four straight markers. After setting up S.Liparota to get the ball rolling, J.Palmitano doubled the lead just prior to the first period ending. The Knights, despite falling behind were still in it, but knew their chances started to diminish when Liparota struck for a second time. There was almost no way that the Bramabulls would falter a three goal margin. The Knights did grab one positive in this encounter, and that was to get the final say courtesy of late power play goal-from M.Kardum. Until that point, G.Follano was rock solid needing only four minutes to earn a shutout.

(0)Knights vs Bramabulls(7) Game 2

Bramabulls cruise to F Wednesday division title

Unlike their series against Carnage, the Bramabulls weren't messing around versus the Knights. This time, they made sure to grab a good start, and in doing so gave no chance for the Knights to respond. It was evident from- the drop of the ball that the Bramabulls meant business. M.Maggiore used two first period goals to start what was a foreshadowing of more to come. Even though both sides may have felt where all this was headed, B.Sansotta's goal surely confirmed the eventuality of this final. The Bramabulls carried a 4-0 lead heading into the final frame where they kept pressing by adding three more tallies. The one area that the Knights were hoping for to giving themselves any sort of chance lied in the idea of playing with the lead. Unfortunately, they just ran into a very determined Bramabulls club, who didn't take their opponent for granted. On behalf of Hockeyballe.com, congratulations go out to Anthony DiPerna and the Bramabulls for capturing the F Wednesday division championship.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Gerardo Follano of the Bramabulls. In two games, G.Follano was as close as perfect can get. The net minder confidently led his team to a championship by allowing only one goal all night.

Venom Crowned division 1  4vs4 Champions

Venom defeated the Punishers 4-1 & 3-1 to capture the 4vs4champiosnship on Monday night. Both victories required a maximum effort unlike the way they won many of their games during the regular season. The Punishers were the only team to really challenge Venom and it showed once again tonight. Playing with a lead always helps, and Venon was able to play ahead throughout the entire series. J.Courteau set the tone early in the first encounter while Y.Gazuri netted the winner thanks to J.DeSua's feed, who capped off a three point performance. The second match was just as close up until the early stages of the second frame where F.Labrecque collected his third assist to widen the gap by three. The Punishers did eventually capitalise on the power play courtesy of P.Arkalis but that was as close as it got. On a few occasions, the Punishers had plenty of chances to even the score. If not for M.Trivisonno bailing his club out, this series could have taken a different turn. The net minder couldn't have performed better than he did on this particular night. From- goaltender out, Venom had the balance and skill set to achieve their goal.On behalf of Hockeyballe.com, congratulations go out to Mike Trivisonno and Venom for taking the 4vs4 first division title.

(4)Venom vs Punishers (1) Game 1

(1)Punishers vs Venom(3) Game 2
