Tuesday December 18(Final)
(2)Capitals vs Punishers (3) Game 1
P.Karvouriaris two late goals lift Punishers to command series lead
P.Karvouriaris scored two late goals, including the winner with less than two minutes remaining to help position the Punishers in the right direction. As expected, throughout the entire match, this contest remained close with both sides playing tentative in hopes of avoiding mistakes. If there was ever a time for your best players to show up, the Punishers definitely got it from their star-forward. P.Karvouriaris showed once again what an offensive threat he his. Unfortunately for the Capitals, they just couldn't hold him off long enough which now has them facing a huge hurdle if they plan on bouncing back.
(2)Punishers vs Capitals(1) S.O Game 2
A.Bitsakis excels in net, Punishers crowned winners of D Tuesday division
For a second straight game, the Punishers edged out the Capitals to claim the D Tuesday division championship. When the teams could not be separated after regulation time with a score of 1-1, the game moved into a penalty shootout where the Capitals missed on all three tries to hand the title to the Punishers. C.Gingras scored the lone goal during the breakaways while A.Bitsakis was heavily relied on to deny all three attempts. If there is one area that the Capitals will be looking back on, was their inability to capitalise with the man advantage. The Punishers played it risky visiting the penalty box several times but managed to kill it off due to their positioning and net minder making the difference. The Capitals did eventually tie the game fairly late thanks to M-A Morin. By then, both teams seemed tired and waited to try their luck in a shootout. Even though both goalies weren't the issue with C.Fortin occupying the net for the Capitals, something had to give. With that one goal coming-from C.Gingras, the Punishers were able to take it in the end. On behalf of Hockeyballe.com, congratulations go out to John Fidrilis and the Punishers for capturing the D Tuesday division title.
The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Alex Bitsakis of the Punishers. The net minder couldn't have played a better series allowing only three goals in two games versus a high octane offense. In addition to all that, Bitsakis stopped all three shootout attempts to help lead his club to a championship.
