(5)Templars vs National (8)

Templars fall apart on 6 unanswered from National

Losing the way they did was definitely a hard one to digest. So for the Templars sake, they better hope that this defeat is a rock bottom that they won’t hit again. The good news is that it happened very early in the regular season. While everything seemed dandy and smooth for nearly two periods, the same count be said for what transpired right after. National eventually elevated their game and went on an incredible run posting six straight tallies. O.Valiquette led the charge netting a hat trick while S.Laplante and M.Pinheiro chipped in with a pair. This result was very uncharacteristic for a team that prides themselves on defence. However, if there is one team that can make you look silly at times, National is that team.

(5)Pylons vs Devil Dawgz(3)

O.Caillet holds the fort in net for the Pylons

By getting on board first, the Pylons had the luxury of controlling the play. They kept it simple and let the game run its course. For nearly two full periods, the Devil Dawgz had no answers on how to crack the Pylons defense and O.Caillet. Eventually, they did get to the net minder but where never able to narrow the gap by one. The Pylons always found a way to carry a two goal cushion .T.Settino got the ball rolling netting the Pylons first two goals. J.Pizzuco riffled the winner from centre court and O.Caillet was perhaps the reason why the Pylons edged out their opponent. In one sequence alone, Caillet was masterful making two to three sensational saves that should have been goals.

(3)Chiefs vs HBHA Seniors(4) O.T

K.Tsoukalas scores in OT to rally HBHA past Chiefs

K.Tsoukalas scored three minutes into overtime, and the HBHA Seniors erased a two goal deficit to defeat the Chiefs on Friday night. The Chiefs couldn’t quite hang on to their lead after posting back to back power play goals. The HBHA Seniors knew that as long as the game was within reach, that they would eventually get there. M.Destounis scored a key marker late in the second period to pull his team within one. Then, with only four minutes remaining, the HBHA Seniors smelled blood when the Chiefs took an untimely penalty. Desperation always tends to kick in when good teams are in search of a goal. By pushing the pace the way they did, the HBHA got rewarded thanks to A.Angelis’s equaliser in a game that could have easily gone either way.

(5)The Family vs Bramabulls(6)

Bramabulls drop Family with late heartbreaker

With time winding down in regulation, and the game seemingly headed for overtime, L.Ruscitto found himself in front of V.Teoli with the ball on his stick to complete his hat trick. The Family fell unfortunate having three players in the crease area unable to pounce on the rebound quick enough. Despite the heartbreaking defeat, the Family are showing plenty of signs of improvement. This contest could have easily gone either way if not for some bad ball luck. M-A Daaha continues to impress, not only to his teammates but from many others that have been paying attention to his infectious play. Four out of the five Family’s goals came thanks to Daaha, who clearly has a nose for the net.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Lino Ruscitto of the Bramabulls. Not bad for a players that’s been out of action for a very long while. In his season debut, Ruscitto was quickly reminded on how scoring goals came naturally. The sniper buried three that included the winner leaving only 3 seconds on the clock.

(8)Bramabulls vs AREZ(3)

J.Mandracchia and M.Maggiore both get hat tricks in Bulls high scoring win

J.Mandracchia and M.Maggiore each scored three goals as the Bramabulls powered its way to an 8-3 victory over AREZ on Wednesday night. The Bramabulls stormed out of the gate with three straight goals to immediately put the AREZ on its heels. AREZ did manage to stop the bleeding but only for a little while. Coming out of the second period was definitely positive for the AREZ but they know they can’t expect to win many games when falling behind 3-0.The final frame resembled much of the first with the Bramabulls continuing their offensive onslaught on four more tallies. As it’s always been for A.DiPerna and his troops, rolling a deep roster will often get them a positive result.

(5)Horsemen vs Bulldogs (3)

B.Rubino nets two power play goals, Horsemen edge out Bulldogs

Defenseman B.Rubino was ready to play as soon as the ball dropped on Wednesday night. Teams can always appreciate when some offense comes from their back end. Apart from relying on his sound defensive game, the Horsemen know that Rubino can light the lamp. Tonight’s win came courtesy of his two power play goals that included the winner along with an insurance marker. The Horsemen never trailed but took the lead three times before getting some breathing room. T.Karasek also scored twice in the victory while S.Dion did the same for the Bulldogs.

(2)Toyota Candiac vs Fat Roy(5)

Fat Roy ride dominant power play in rout of Toyota Candiac

When Fat Roy went on the power play, they were thinking one thing, and that was to make the Toyota Candiac pay. Fat Roy were lethally efficient in doing that in their 5-2 win. Out of their three power play chances, N.Gikas, K.Fiore and D.Lombardi each scored with the man advantage. As much as the special teams were significant, the turning point did come on an even strength goal early in the third period. N.Gikas was able to snap a 2-2 third period tie before Fat Roy put the match to rest on a pair of power play goals.

(7)Carnage vs Knights (4)

Carnage down Knights on late power play goal by F.Pace

It took until the late stages of the third period before Carnage could put the game away and record their second win in as many games. And who better that the captain to decide matters. F.Pace was the one to riffle the winner with less than two minutes remaining. From there, T.Ruvo made sure to cap it off by bagging two insurance goals. The Knights felt the frustration of this loss, especially after grabbing the lead twice while eventually overcoming a two goal deficit in the third period. F.Bchara and M.Dupuis did all they could sharing three points each in the loss.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Bryan Rubino of the Horsemen. The steady defenseman was instrumental for the Horsemen providing two key power play goals.

Thursday January 23

(13)Mighty Drunks vs Bad Habits (3)

Mighty Drunks smoke Bad Habits with scoring onslaught

It’s never pleasant when a team gets scored that many times. The Bad Habits gave up too many goals in the first period alone that made them uninterested in trying to battle back. Up already 7-1, the Mighty Drunks brought it down a notch but still ran up the score. M.Pinheiro and S.Laplante posted hat tricks while combining for 14 points. Perhaps, it was to be expected when a team has all but two players to change with versus a staked line-up. These types of games require a good start and a solid defensive performance in order to have any sort of chance. Unfortunately for the Bad Habits, they got neither and were stuck enduring a thumping defeat.

(3)Fatal Demons vs Buckshots(7)

Buckshots get all their scoring done by M.Destounis and Y.Derohannesian

It goes without saying that it’s not every day you see a pair of teammates do all of the scoring, especially when they bury seven. M.Destounis kicked off the party to open the score in the second period rattling off his first of four on the night. Then, and not to be out done, Y.Derohannesian completed his own hat trick on a pair of late goals. The Fatal Demons had too many weapons to worry about and seemed to have their hands full at times to contain the fire power from the Buckshots. They did manage to stay within striking distance on the large part, that was up until M.Destounis shattered their confidence when he notched two very quick tallies by the third period. E.Mavroudis normally puts at least one in on seven goals but the power forward won’t have a hard time sleeping knowing that he helped set up four markers.

(3)Fitforce Phoenix vs Left Wings(7)

Left Wings quick goals in second period do in Fitforce Phoenix

Three goals in less than two minutes sparked the Left Wings to a 7-3 victory over the Fitforce Phoenix on Thursday night. It was a closely contested game up until that point. That sequence saw scoring efforts from three different players which ultimately tilted the court in the Left Wings favour. The Fit Force Phoenix will look back at some self-inflicted wounds that enabled the Left Wings to capitalise. Hockey is a game of errors and the Left Wings did a great job limiting theirs. The win came courtesy of an overall team effort that saw A.Perrault as the only multi goal scorer for the Left Wings. As for the Fit Force Phoenix ,B.Cabral led all teammates participating in all three goals.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Marino Destounis of the Buckshots. With the help of his tremendous four goal performance, the Buckshots were able to walk away with the win over the Fatal Demons on Thursday night.

Stars shine for Punishers in rout of 1 Timer

P.Arkalis and C.Gingras made an impact right from the get go and were a huge reason why the Punishers exposed the 1 Timer twice on Monday night. P.Arkalis was exceptional in the opening game netting three goals and an assist while C.Gingras never let go of the pedal producing an impressive nine points. In both games, the 1 Timer were neck in neck with the Punishers keeping the game levelled after the first periods. The problem occurred in the final frames where the Punishers showed their superiority outscoring the 1 Timer 8-1.There was only so much F.Koch could have done to keep the games respectable. It’s never an easy task when goaltenders are stuck facing a one two punch surrounded by a solid supporting cast. Overall, they did fair well considering having barely two lines.

LG HC adapt in second game after being bounced by Les Yables

Even though they didn’t earn the win, the LG HC bounced back to level with Les Yables after an embarrassing loss. They knew they needed a better start along with some help defensively. For how tremendous Les Yables’s for checking was, the LG HC had to react quick and smart in order to get out of trouble. The first game was a complete disaster for the LG HC, who couldn’t do anything right. D.Pelletier had a field day netting four goals, and D.Marcotte made plenty happen scoring twice while adding three helpers. Fortunately, things did turn around in the second encounter for the LG HC. E.Girouard was quite remarkable as the sniper collected his fifth goal that ultimately sent the match into a shootout.

Degenerates tweak their game in split with Excalibur

J.Atch needed to be good, and the Degenerates got much needed production up front in order to even the miniseries with the Excalibur. For how lopsided the first game ended, the Degenerates could have continued to fall apart in the second match. Instead, they put it behind them, and stood together in order to return the favour. They were aggressive when needed to be and laid off when they needed to. It always helps storming off to a better start. After grabbing a 3-1 lead heading into the final frame, the Degenerates made sure to keep winning their battles in order to not give much. The snow ball effect lasted all game that saw scoring efforts from five different players.

Ice Breakers stun Immigrant twice on late goals

Like just about everyone from both benches, the players were preparing for a shootout. That was up until a late penalty enabled the Ice Breakers to take advantage on a power play goal from H.Jerjian. Les Immigrant managed to put it behind them quickly as they focused on a good start in the ensuing match. Things appeared to be fine when A.Addante opened the scoring while finding V.Botchway for a 2-1 lead heading into the final stretch. But the Ice Breakers were not to be denied, and for a second straight time, they tilted the court in their favour. It took only two minutes for H.Jerjian and A.Tachejian to get to R.Ricaurte. The go ahead marker left all but three minutes on the clock. Unfortunately for Les Immigrant, they weren’t able to force the extra time as they were stuck going empty handed in what were two very close games.

(2)Immigrant vs Ice Breakers (3)

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Carl Gingras of the Punishers. The Punishers got on their winning ways right away thanks to an offensive showing by C.Gingras, who already produced nine points in a single night.

Classics take advantage of depleted line up

The Prolific Athletes had to know they were playing with fire having only one change up to their bench. The first game was already decided when K.Araujo posted his second for a 4-0 lead by the eight minute mark of the opening frame. With the luxury of having a second chance to redeem themselves, the Prolific Athletes came out ready for the ensuing match despite their short bench. Granted, the odds did play against them but the overall contest was way closer than the first encounter. The Classics needed two quick goals in the second period in order to gain control. After getting his club on board, P.Gervasi was behind setting up both D.Gagnon and E.Gabrielli.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Pat Gervasi of the Classics. The heads up d-man had a productive game collecting three points in a close 3-1 win.

(2)Black Knights vs GK(9) Game 2

GK pound Black Knights to force a deciding game

There was no doubt that every GK player said they would be better in this game. And although nothing is ever for certain, it may as well have been an iron clad guarantee that this series had more miles to it. There is far too much talent and experience not to believe that the GK's big guns, who were somewhat dormant in game 1, wouldn't start firing in this must win contest. Clearly they were much better, and it started to show as of the second frame where they ran up the score on four unanswered goals. K.Kuczmarski, B.Jutras and M.David showed up to play as all three players each scored twice. For the GK, the offensive explosion was to be expected. It's one thing to keep them at bay for one game but extremely difficult for two in a row. The Black Knights understood this and perhaps weren't prepared enough to close out the series. Both teams will have a few days to rest up and prepare for their biggest match of the year. After taking game two rather easily, the GK feel confident about their chances heading into game three. The question becomes how can the Black Knights overcome a reality check? Knowing that they took game one of this series, T.Iannitto will have to go back to basics and inspire his troops that anything is still possible.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Matthew David of the GK. In what was a must win game, M.David led the way up front accumulating four points that included two assists at pivotal points during the match.
