T.Salberg completes hat trick in overtime in wild finsih

What a game. The Panthers were on the back foot for most of the game after the Altius gave themselves a two goal cushion, but they remained diligent and kept themselves in it while forcing overtime when J.Mason barely beat the buzzer. It looked like the Altius had it wrapped up when P.Arkalis used a nifty back hander to beat D.Bourque with just over a minute left on the clock. The Panthers forced the extra time by removing their net minder for the extra attacker. Once J.Mason tied it up, the Panthers pushed hard for the winner, and eventually got their when T.Salberg used a hard low shot that just squeaked by M.Melo. That was Salberg’s third of the night, and it couldn’t have come at a better time for a team that will make their presence felt as the season goes by. The Panthers will continue to prove that they wont be an easy out on any given night. Looking back, the Altius may feel like they let this one get away. After all, they led by a pair and grabbed a late lead only to blow it in the end.

United Arms win hard fought battle with Punishers

Hard work beats talent most nights in any sport. The United Arms proved that in a big way on Wednesday night. There extraordinary work ethic resulted in four goals, but more importantly was how they committed as a whole to defend versus a lethal opposition. Everyone bought into playing for one another along with R.Ricaurte holding the fort in net paid dividends for the United Arms. The winning goal was a little unusual the way it went in. You just never know when you aim toward the net, funny things tend to happen. M.Vatazamian shot-from a wide angle, but put mustard on his shot that it somehow had enough momentum to go over the goaltenders head and behind him for the winner. Leading to that point, H.Jerjian was instrumental for the result as the gritty skilled forward notched a pair of third period tallies. Even though its only their second game of the regular season, the United Arms will look back at this to remind themselves that anything is possible.

RCGT fall off a cliff, Brew Crew mounts an incredible third period comeback

The RCGT Knights must of thought that they were banking points entering the third period carrying what seemed like a comfortable 5-1 lead. They went-from a team playing sure handed, confident hockey to a jittery, flustered and ultimately defeated group. An RCGT Knights defense that for two straight periods made all the smart and safe decisions in its own zone started running around after a big Brew Crew fore check was applied, and S.Sauk could not bail them out. Clearly, they didn’t play the clock to their advantage, and miss handled the entire situation. There is however a flip side to these types of situation. The Brew Crew, to their credit believed in themselves despite the grim light at the end of the tunnel. Slowly but surely , they took it one play and one shift at a time to crawl back into it. M.Maggiore and C.Moutafis were a crucial part of the come back effort as both players each scored twice in that final frame. But no matter what the circumstances, the onus was on the RCGT Knights to dictate the terms. The good news is that this awful ending happened early in what may just be a meaningless regular season game.
