Unfocused Kings were dealt a wake up call from-Country Club

The Knights were either particularly terrible in their first game, or the Country Club were simply ready and focused going up against the division leaders. Regardless the reasons, the Country Club took advantage of some sloppy plays making their chances count as much as possible, especially by the second frame where they toppled the Kings on four unanswered markers. Apart from J-S Lowe’s two goals, the Country Club got balanced contributions throughout their line up. T.Ferreira did more than his fair share on the losing side posting all three markers for the Kings. The next game was going to test the character of a team that barely had a slip up so far this season. There was no doubt that the Kings were going to put out a much better effort. However, it didn’t come easy as they found themselves needing a desperate goal after pulling out their net minder. That’s when G.DeLuca came to the rescue bagging his third marker that forcefully sent this contest into a shootout. Already with three goals during the game, M.Dalpe buried another one in the shootout right before P.Dupuis used a perfect wrist shot to beat A.Pietracupa far side to cap off a second straight victory for the Country Club.

Dragons start strong before running out of steam to Orient

The Dragons came up short against the Orient on Monday night after being up 4-3 entering the final frame. Despite playing in front, the Orient had the upper hand in the end taking advantage of side rotating only one single player for a change up. M.Piche and M.Zarzour scored 40 seconds apart, and the Orient found themselves in front where they dictated a good portion of the play. There was no doubt that the order was even taller for the Dragons having to play another game after running out of steam. Unlike the first encounter, the Orient took it to them early pouncing on three goals by the eight minute mark of the opening frame. G.Yacoub had set up two teammates before adding a couple to put the game out of reach. The Dragons did attempt a late push when G.DeMarinis netted back to back tallies but it just wasn’t nearly enough.

Snipers get last word after back and forth action with Big Timer

The Big Timer finally got rewarded on Monday night by defeating the Snipers 5-4 in a shootout. The Big Timer were doing a lot of good things offensively, and it paid off by getting balanced scoring. A.Toure was the catalyst behind setting up four different teammates before ending the first encounter in style by netting the shootout winner. It looked as though the second game was going to be a dog fight till the very end, especially after both sides traded only one goal each to finish off the first period. However, that wasn’t the case with the Snipers putting it into gear riding four unanswered goals. In the span of only two minutes, S.Hassan, H.Faour and Ali Khanafer  all scored to give their club a significant 4-1 lead. Everything appeared to be going very well for the Big Timer up until that one sequence where they let this one slip away.

M.Kardum hat trick power Horsemen in first encounter, Kings respond to even series

Unable to ride a strong start on two quick goals, the Kings let another game slip away-from them in their double header night. The Horsemen managed to flip the momentum with M.Kardum making sure to get his club back on track. The sniper potted a pair right before P.Carone gave the Horsemen a 3-2 lead before the period ended. Perhaps the turning point can be argued when M.Kardum cashed in for a third time on the Horsemen’s power play that provided a 4-2 lead. The Kings would get the last tally by D.Lombardi, but couldn’t get that much needed equaliser. After suffering three straight loses, you almost had to put the odds on the Kings getting it right. And to their credit, that’s exactly what happened in their convincing  9-3 result over the Horsemen. It was clear that everyone bought into putting out a much harder and focused effort as five different players scored in the first period alone to put a stranglehold on the match. T.Ferreira and D.Lombardi did have an extra gear to their game as both players generated a ton of offense combining for a ridiculous 14 points. If the Kings took a lesson-from tonight’s results, its that you cant ever get to complacent no matter how good your record is. Sometimes nights like these only makes you stronger and better prepared. The Kings will grow-from this, and shake it off quickly knowing  that they still are the front runners for taking it all.

Degenerates edged in goaltending duel between T.Chouinard and T.Borgia

Both goaltenders T.Chouinard and T.Borgia held each team to only one goal before it needing a shootout for the Orient to prevail 3-1 in the first game. The two net minders were on full display the entire night, and if not for them , somebody was going to pay the price. Basically, the two games came down to who would capitalise on their chances since the goal scoring was very low. A large part of the second encounter saw neither side get on board until the four minute mark of the final frame where M.Zarzour was finally able to beat T.Borgia. The Orient would eventually double their lead shortly after thanks to P.Bellemeur, and the Degenerates knew that their hill was to high to climb despite enough time left over. The Degenerates will look back at some missed opportunities where they could have easily found themselves in front. Unfortunately, they faced a moving wall that gave them absolutely nothing. T.Chouinard was brilliant stopping 41 of 42 shots in both games while denying the two shootout attempts in the previous match.

RCGT Knights use a pair of strong finishes to edge out HC Jokerit

Both games were intense and low scoring for the RCGT Knights and the HC Jokerit. After collecting two goals by S.Tessier and Y.Gazura, the RCGT Knights were able to hold off their opponent en route to a 3-1 victory. Normally, you try and bounce back right away after coming off a loss. The HC Jokerit did just that fairly early on with goals by C.Anastasopoulos and S.Amaral which put them right away in the drivers seat. They ended the frame up 2-0, and knew by then it was only theirs to lose.  Many things need to go wrong when carrying a two goal lead with only one period remaining, especially when it’s a low scoring affair. The problem for the HC Jokerit was that they couldn’t close out the deal, and ultimately paid the price in the end. The most pivotal point occurred when Y.Gazura scored shorthanded to level the game for the RCGT Knights. With momentum being extremely contagious, J.Prevost provided the RCGT Knights go ahead marker only a minute later which proved to be just enough for the come back win.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Aziz Toure of the Big Timer. Finally, after a very long stretch into the season, the Big Timer had the satisfaction of getting their first win. There was no question A.Toure was a major reason why as the forward helped set up all four goals before ending it with the games shootout winner.
