C.Kakivelis and P.DelliColli deliver brilliant goaltending for the Classics and Altius

When the ball dropped between these two teams, you knew that this was going to be an intense series headed the entire distance. Both sides don’t lack high end skills-from their goaltenders P.DelliColli and C.Kakivelis to a bunch of scoring talent that are equally matched. They do resemble each other in many ways which came to no ones surprise that it went into a third and deciding game three. The Classics were hoping to avoid extending the series since they took the opening match, and because P.Karvouriaris scored late in game two to put his club up 3-2.  Only desperation was left over for the Altius hopes of staying alive. By removing their goaltender, the play opened up, and J.Adamou had the space he needed to even the score with another blistering slap shot. Still, the Altius weren’t done yet as it took a must win in the shootout in order to keep their season going. After a multitude of attempts-from the two sides, neither players were able to figure out C.Kakivelis and P.DelliColli. It took the seventh attempt for J.Adamou to use a perfect back hand in order to get the better of Kakivelis. That tally forced a game three twelve minute game where the Classics found themselves in a great spot after being awarded a power play opportunity. It was almost no accident that M.Mavroudis would bury his chance -from his sweet spot on the field after receiving a perfect pass-from M.Destounis. Going up 1-0 in these situations is the equivalent of taking a massive lead. The Classics knew that they had only five minutes to play their most intense game of the season. As much as the Altius did have their fair share of chances, C.Kakivelis was their to deny them every single time. Eventually the clock ran out, and the Altius just fell short in a series that could have easily gone either way.

Orient doomed after surrendering late shorthanded goal

The Orient looked like they were on the verge of forcing a third and deciding game carrying a 2-1 lead late in the second encounter. On top of that, they found themselves on the power play and needed nothing less than to move the ball around to bleed out the clock. And rather than closing out the deal, they surrendered a shorthanded goal instead which ignited the Dragons to take it in a shootout. J.Mandracchia was there again making high end plays that enabled the Dragons to get that extra edge over their opponent. The forward was dominant once more, collecting four points in game one while netting a big shorthanded tally that sent game two into a shootout. Mandracchia wasn’t done yet as he buried his chance in the breakaways which was followed by P.Musto doing the same to secure and close out the series. In addition to Mandracchia’s stellar display, B.Daniele was just as vital bagging a total of four goals and an assist  The Orient didn’t catch any breaks in a series that was extremely close. They dropped both games by a hair, and a shootout that normally goes either way. Sometimes the bounces just don’t come your way.

(4)Dragons vs Orient(3) S.O Game 2

The SalumiVino player of the night in the first division goes to Costa Kakivelis of the Classics. The Classics are primarily known for their lethal weapons up front to make the difference. And while that was still the case, their goaltending played a major role in this series. C.Kakivelis was absolutely sharp throughout the entire time, and perhaps the key reason why the Classics will be playing in the final.

The first division is now down to its final two teams. The Classics and the Dragons will square off in what will be a fast paced offensive series. Since both sides like to play that run and gun style game, this series will depend on how well the goaltending goes. Joe DeStefano will be extremely busy but ready for the task to go up against either S.Morante or C.Kakivelis. P.Santullo will make the important decision on who to go with in net for the Classics.

Degenerates unable to match pace with Kings

The only way the Degenerates had any sort of chance was to try and play in front in this series with the Kings. Unable to get that first tally, G.DeLuca struck instead for the Kings late in the first period. The Kings didn’t take long to double their lead when D.Lombardi scored early in the second frame. The Degenerates were stuck dealing with an issue of not generating enough offense. Even though they had some chances , it wasn’t nearly enough to pose any sort of threat, especially with A.Mancini securing the net. The Kings would close out game one with Mancini turning aside a 13 save shutout. One thing that the Degenerates wanted to avoid in game two was to start-from behind.  With the script repeating itself, G.DeLuca put the Kings in front once more. Eventually the Degenerates did get their rare goal to even the score, but that barely lasted as D.Lombardi was there to regain the lead. Perhaps the back break occurred just before the opening frame ended with DeLuca posting his second for a 3-1 lead. It was clear-from that point on that the Degenerates were deflated and had no other choice but to take some chances which enabled the Kings to counter attack. In the span of just over two minutes, T.Ferreira riffled a hat trick on all three feeds coming-from DeLuca., ultimately closing out a fairly easy series.

Snipers staple ticket to final in dominant fashion over Country Club

A fast start and another solid outing by M.St-Laurent made for a fairly easy night for the Snipers. The scoring came by committee in game one with efforts-from four different players while game two saw their captain Ali Khanafer take charge netting a hat trick, and J.Hassan accumulating a ton of points. Every aspect of the Snipers game worked wonders on Monday night. The defense dominated both games thoroughly, the offense scored at will, and M.St-Laurent allowed the Country Club to only two goals in as many games.  The Country Club didn’t help their cause either in the second match taking way too many penalties that allowed the Snipers to bury three chances. It looked-from the get go that the Snipers came to play flooring a deep and complete roster. By riding their full bench, the Country Club felt the pressure of reacting quick which caused turn overs and errors leading to scoring chances by the Snipers. Overall, it was just a brilliant performance by a team that appears to be ready for the big dance.

(6)Snipers vs Country Club(1) Game 2

The SalumiVino player of the night in the second division goes to Jafar Hassan of the Snipers. In his clubs total of ten goals over two games , J.Hassan had his hand involved in nine of them as the engine that generated a ton of offense.

The second division will feature the Kings taking on the Snipers for the big prize on Monday night. This will be an interesting series between two teams with different styles. The Kings are lethal up front as they will rely on D.Lombardi, G.DeLuca and T.Ferreira to do most of their damage. For the Snipers, although they have Ali Khanafer and J.Hassan in that department, the game plan will rely more on how they play without the ball. The Snipers like to fore-check and use their speed to take away time and space. It will be up to the Kings to adjust and make sure that they also make that commitment to play well without the ball. If they apply that part to their game , then their team name will be justified.
