Snipers dominate ball possession, Mighty Pooches will look to adjust after difficult start

The Mighty Pooches were hoping that it wasn’t going to be a difficult night in their season debut vs last seasons finalists. The Snipers were all over them-from the get go riding a strong first period without any resistance. H.Awada took charge converting three times before adding his fourth to end the game earlier than usual. Knowing that the first encounter was an immediate write off, the Mighty Pooches looked to adjust as they had another shot at improving a poor start. Unfortunately, they suffered the same faith giving up four quick goals by the five minute mark. As bad as things were, they did have some signs of life when M.Totaro finally got to M.St-Laurent. However, the hill was still to high to climb for a side that’s still getting their feet wet. The volume of time playing without the ball will only wear you down. The Mighty Pooches spent to much time chasing the play rather than carrying it. Maybe some extra quality players inserted to their line up may turn things around, or they will just need to get accustom to playing with one another. If there was one thing that was certain, was that the Snipers haven’t missed a beat. They took both games rather easily getting a load of balanced scoring throughout their line up.

RCGT Knights and ETNA split after crazy finish in both games

Tightly contested-from start to finish, both sides ended the two games in what was a pulsating conclusion. ETNA needed a very late marker in the opening contest-from M.Calabrice in order to take their chances in the shootout where the very same player scored the lone tally to steal the game. If that wasn’t a wild finish, the second encounter got much crazier. ETNA used three unanswered goals to turn a 4-2 deficit into a 5-4 lead with less than three minutes remaining. You have to figure momentum would carry you through to the finish line. Instead, S.Ruggiero responded almost immediately on his patented quick realise, and J.Prevost was there to tap in a rebound moments later to swing the pendulum once more. The RCGT Knights looked like they were down and out having to floor a shorter bench compared to ETNA. But with hockey being often unpredictable, it just went to show that anything can happen.

D.Lombardi two shorthanded goals propel Kings in opener with Kings

The Kings wanted to set the tone for  Mondays games. Killing penalties is one way to do that. Oh, and scoring two shorthanded goals by the very same D.Lombardi doesn’t hurt either. Even though the Brodie Boys are familiar with Lombardi’s presence on the court, it still wasn’t good enough to stop the sniper. The Kings took the first encounter thanks to their power forward collecting all four points that included the two back breakers .Clearly, it proved to be a huge momentum boost headed into the second game. However, that didn’t discourage the Brodie Boys-from recuperating. The two sides didn’t slow down in what was a high paced back and forth display of quality hockey. On three occasions, the Kings put themselves in a good position by playing in front only to keep getting an eventual answer by the Brodie Boys. M.Gibson tied it fairly late on feeds by M.Pietracupa and H.Angelou, who was involved in all three goals for the Brodie Boys along with a shootout marker. The game saw no winners since D.Lombardi notched the Kings lone shootout tally. While both teams got what they expected-from their players, its worth noting that the two net minders were exceptional as well. D.Delaronde was brilliant making it look easy at times as was his counter part B.Makris of the Brodie Boys.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to David Lombardi of the Kings. No doubt Lombardi was a big reason why the Kings collected four points versus the Brodie Boys on Monday night. The forward went on to collect six out of a possible eight points that included two shorty’s and a shootout tally.
