With the addition of inter league play in the Premier Division of Hockeyballe.com and Dek Longueuil this summer, it has proven to be a big success amongst players. The elite players of both leagues put on a display about what ballhockey is all about. Indeed, for the first time in their history, the two biggest leagues in the greater Montreal area changed venues for a two week period sending some of its finest ball hockey teams to clash with one another.
The event comprised a total of eight teams where four represented each league. Hosting the first of a two home and away mini-series, the Longueuil arena received the elite Laval teams such as Red Lite, Generals and the Black Knights to go up against some fierce competition in teams such as Les Gouverneurs, Les Bandits de la Rive-Sud and the Punishers.
Out of the three games played, Les Gouverneurs had success defeating the nine time National champions Red Lite with a 5-4 result. The other matches saw the Generals take their game in overtime versus Les Bandits de la Rive-Sud while the Black Knights routed the Punishers in a 7-3 victory.
With the games shifting to the Centre SportXpo de Laval a week later, Dek Hockey Longueuil hit the road heading into unfamiliar territory. While all four games were fairly close, the Road Runners were glad to claim victory as they defeated the Generals 3-2 in a shootout. That game was followed with Red Lite topping the Punishers 4-1, the Royal Flush doubling up Les Gouverneurs 6-3 and the Black Knights barely edging Les Bandits de la Rive-Sud 4-3.
All in all things rolled very well for both sides. Competition at this level is always inspiring for players and teams to get involved and after experiencing a great turn out, things will only be brighter for the game of ball hockey to come.
On behalf of Hockeyballe.com, we would like to thank all the players and teams involved, and especially Fred Simard the president of Dek Hockey Longueuil who helped make it all happen.
