Wednesday August 24(F2 Semi-finals)
(3)Acolytes vs Deadlast(2) Game 1
Simon Leblanc scores game-winner as Acolytes strike first in series
With both sides going at it from the very beginning, it was the Acolytes captain making the difference in game one of the series. The game was tied 2-2 after two periods when S.Leblanc scored by the four minute mark for a 3-2 lead. In an attempt to even the score, Deadlast had two power play chances but were unable to get the much needed equalizer. G.Langelier was stellar pushing over 20 shots, especially in the third period where Deadlast had the extra advantage with the power play. P.Tambeau and S.Dicaire combined for four points in the win while P.Elizardo was once again Deadlast’s best player notching one goal and an assist.
(3)Horsemen vs HC Inter(0) Game 1
M.Vinciguerra backstops Horsemen to 3-0 win over HC Inter
Goaltender M.Vinciguerra stopped all 25 shots his way to earn a shutout and help the Horsemen to a 1-0 series lead over the HC Inter. The scoring for the Horsemen only got done by the late stages of the second period. V.Pandza beat the buzzer and the Horsemen had the luxury to play with the lead with still a period remaining. From there, things only got better for the division leaders as they added two insurance markers to cap off the night. It was their captain T.Zermalias and B.Rubino that each scored in the final frame. For nearly two full periods, the HC Inter competed well with their opponents only to fall short. The good news is that this series isn’t over, and the week off can only help the HC Inter figure out a way to bounce back.
F3 Playoffs, Round 1
(5)Bulldogs vs Pendelis(4)O.T
Jonathan Pace nets game winning goal, Bulldogs advance to semi finals
Despite fighting back to even the score late in the game, Pendeils saw their season come to end by the two minute mark of overtime. J.Pace will be remembered by his teammates as the number 77 sent his club to the next round after receiving a feed from C.Boivin. The Bulldogs came out stronger winning the opening frame 3-1, but Pendelis never threw the towel by eventually evening the score. If there is one time during the game where Pendelis will look back and regret, was when they gave up a third period shorthanded goal. That tally gave the Bulldogs a 4-3 lead with less than four minutes remaining. X.Clement scored in that crucial circumstance with his second of the night.
(4)Monsters vs NWV(10)
A quick exit for the Monsters, lopsided victory for NWV
The goals came and they came fast. The NWV, in the span of only four minutes made the score 3-0 and the Monsters never recovered. K.Dube scored twice in the opening frame and Y.Mouchaca brought it a step further notching all three of his tallies by the second period alone. The only constant that the Monsters got on this night was the production of their go to guy. P.Klitirinos had another productive game bagging two goals and an assist. But his solo effort wasn’t anywhere close for what the Monsters needed to do. Maybe it was just a question of a bad start, but regardless the reasons, the NWV showed that they were primed to play when it counted the most.
With the Bulldogs and the NWV passing the first round, the semi final match ups are as follows:
(1)Hellfish vs NWV(5)
(2)Primetime vs Bulldogs(3)
The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Michele Vinciguerra of the Horsemen. In a tight battle with HC Inter, the Horsemen net minder had a brilliant performance denying 25 shots to earn a shutout.
