Red Lite A Division Champions

Monday May 15(Finals)

(2)Black Knights vs Red Lite(4) Game 3

Red Lite crowned again as best team in hockey

After only three games in, Red Lite defeated the Black Knights 4-2, to complete a three game sweep and win the Premier division once more. Despite a respectable effort, the Black Knights got deflated in the third period where Red Lite capitalized twice less than a minute apart. J.Provost-Blais snapped the dreaded 2-2 tie for his second with the man advantage, and M.David put the final dagger only moment s later, also for his second that surely provided enough of a lead with eight minutes remaining. Every game was close in this series but the Black knights couldn’t get that timely goal to get any sort of advantage. The saying of good teams always find a way to win surely summed up this series. Red Lite, whether they trail or play with a tie will more often than not find a way to get the job done. Once again, the ball hockey giants proved to everyone how good they really are by winning the Premier division. On behalf of Hockeyballe.com, congratulations goes out to Carl Ghilarducci and the rest of Red Lite for capturing the A division title.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Joel Provost-Blais. The forward scored back to back goals that snapped a third period tie along with providing an assist to finish with a solid three point night.

Note that both Red Lite and the Black Knights will be representing Quebec at this years Nationals. Red Lite will be classified as QB1 and the Black Knights will be QB2.The event will take place from August 7 - 13 at Saint John New Brunswick.

Dek Hockey Drummond takes home the 2015 provincial championship

Dek Hockey Drummond takes home the 2015 provincial championshipA three goal one assist performance by Stephanie Savoie propels Dek Hockey Drummond to 4-0 shutout win over le Diablo de Montreal. It’s Dek Hockey Drummonds fourth final at the provincial qualifier, and after dropping two straight, they regained their crown as Quebec’s best team. Savoie led the way in two categories capturing the most points with eight while scoring the most riffling up to five goals. Apart from her brilliant display, the current champs got efforts from every single player in their line up out scoring their opponents 16-2 in four games. Two of those results were shutouts earned by Krystel Boutin who did a splendid job protecting her cage. The round robin was held on the Saturday where all five teams played two games each for positioning. Les Bonobos, led by Melie Legris dropped both their contests and hoped to rebound on Sunday where they fell to the Warriors. The Warriors won that game 3-0 thanks to a shutout performance by Nadia Varriano. The semi-finals featured Equipe Quebec versus Diablo de Montreal while the Warriors faced off against Dek Hockey Drummond. In the first period alone, le Diablo de Montreal captured the frame with a 4-2 score getting goals from four different players. Melissa Globensky netted the winner and Annie Leduc was able to feed two teammates. As for the other semi finals, Dek Hockey Drummond continued their progress in a 4-1 rout of the Warriors. As most would have thought of a Dek Hockey Drummond versus an Equipe Quebec finals due to their recent success, le Diablo de Montreal turned some heads over the week end. Amanda Lalande did a fine job assembling many young talented players and put up a good fight against a team that is still in their prime. The Quebec ball hockey association would like to thank all five captains (Melie Legris of Les Bonobos, Brittany Diabo of the Montreal Warriors, Lorraine Bourcier of Equipe Quebec, Amanda Lalande of Les Diablo de Montreal and finally Vanessa De Grandpre of Dek Hockey Drummond) for making it happen and putting together what was an exciting brand of hockey. On behalf of the Quebec ball hockey association, congratulations go out to Vanessa De Grandpre and the rest of Dek Hockey Drummond for capturing the 2015 provincial championship. Here is a summary of the elimination round held on the Sunday.Round 1 :4th place Warriors  3          5th place Les Bonobos  0Semi Finals :Diablo de Montréal  4                  Équipe Québec  2Dek Hockey Drummond  4          Montreal Warriors 1Finals:Dek Hockey Drummond  4          Diablo de Montréal  0

Ball Hockey is promoted through Quebecers in Jamaica

From September 8-12, 2014, Jean-Marie Larochelle and two of his friends went to Jamaica to organize a ball hockey camp for kids at Drapers All Age School and Port Antonio Primary School.

It is his passion for hockey in all its forms which led him to organize this project:” Last January, during my first trip to Jamaica, I spoke with people from the little town where I was living in and hockey quickly came on the topic. They told me I should come back to teach ball hockey at their elementary school. After a few months of preparation, we decided on a date and the project was launch”, he explains.

Jean-Marie and his friends organized morning sessions at Drapers All Age School, and afternoon ones at Port Antonio. The young participants were aged between 6-14 years old and the project targeted girls as much as boys. “People just loved it and we drew crowds sometimes. I just learned last week that the kids were still playing after I left. I gave all the hockey sticks and ball to the school so they could practice every day.”

Given the success of his camp, he plans on returning next January for the second phase of his project where he plans on organizing games between the two schools. He concludes saying: « It honestly was one of the best experiences in my life. To see all these kids learn a new sport and adapt it that quickly and easily was very impressive.” He also mentions that there weren’t any gyms in the schools and they had to play on a bad quality basketball course. Yet, the kids were doing very well. “Imagine the potential they would have on gym or real ball hockey floors. I guarantee you they would be excellent players!”Amongst others, he thanks Tony Iannitto and George Gortsos from the CBHA and ISBHF for donating hockey sticks and balls, Roy Larochelle Avocats inc. for the t-shirts, Sean Wilson from Coast to Coast Hockey shop and the people who participated to his Indiegogo fundraising. Dek Hockey de la Capitale wins the 2014 Provincials

This past weekend, the Women’s Provincial Championship took place at Sport Expo de Laval. Seven teams started their Saturday morning in top form giving a well earned effort, playing two games each and jousting for positioning in Sundays elimination rounds. After completing what was a high energy day, the two favourites took top seeds only to have Dek Hockey De La Capitale capture first place and a first round buy straight to the semi finals and Dek Drummond finishing second.

The quarter final match ups featured the Impact vs Pures Laines, Palm Bays vs Warriors and Hockey Expert vs the favoured Dek Hockey Drummond. One thing all three games had in common, was that all the winners were able to shut down their opponents allowing no goals what so ever. Marie-Eve Leduc went flawless between the pipes for the Impact in their 2-0 win over Pures Laines, Alex Garcia pushed away 11 balls for the Warriors in a convincing victory over Palm Bays and Martine Gousy denied everything from Hockey Expert allowing the Dek Hockey Drummond to advance.

These results brought four clubs closer to achieving their goals in the semi finals. Well rested for skipping the quarter finals round, the Dek Hockey de la Capitale immediately got to their opponents, the Impact, when Véronique Carrier opened the scoring just two minutes into the game. Alexandra Roy doubled the lead later in the same period and Stéphanie Savoie was able to add an early second period insurance marker to help her club book a spot to the finals.

As for the other contest, the end result was decided in a dramatic fashion. Both sides defended well all game long and got excellent goaltending until an eventual marker settled the score. Janie-Claude Arpin played the hero in this affair as she riffled the lone tally in overtime with a feed from Vanessa De Grandpré to beat Alex Garcia for a rare time.

Leaving only two teams in the tournament, the final stage was set to see who would capture their ultimate goal. The two favourites, Dek Hockey Drummond and DDLC advanced, but they still had to face tough challenges getting there. In what was expected to be a great final, both teams upped their intensity and never gave up until that final buzzer hit. Although Dek Drummond did score first with an early goal from Mélissa Roy, Dek Hockey de la Capitale immediately responded bagging three straight tallies in just the span of over four minutes. Veronique Carrier, Jessica Latouche and Priscilla Paquin all got the better of the opposing goalie for a 3-1 lead until Vanessa De Grandpré gave some life to her club reducing the gap by one. With a few second on the clock, DDLC shut the door with a fourth goal.

Each side had the fire power to generate plenty of offence as the top four goal scorers belonged to both clubs. Priscilla Paquin and Veronique Carrier each finished with seven points for Dek Hockey de la Capitale while Mélissa Roy and Janie-Claude Arpin did the same for Dek Drummond.

On behalf of the Quebec Ball Hockey Association, we would like to congratulate Dek Hockey de la Capitale for their 3rd Provincial title in 4 years, as well as Dek Drummond who was last year’s National Champions for both earning spots to this years Nationals held in Saskatoon. We also congratulate the Impact de St-Jérôme and the Montreal Warriors who will be representing our province in Saint John, NB for the Eastern Regionals.

Special thanks to Stéphane Côté (Hockey Expert), Christina Oum & Manpreet Kooner (Palm Bays), Lorraine Bourcier & Franceska Perron (Dek Capitale), Vanessa De Grandpré (Dek Drummond), Brittany Diabo (Warriors), Mélie Legris (Pures Laines), and  Jacqueline Montpetit (Impact) who managed their teams effectively and made this tournament possible.

Armored Saints enter 50th straight session

This year, the Armored Saints celebrate their 50th season in the ball hockey world after playing for so long under PTM ballhockey leagues today known as Hockeyballe.com. It was almost 20 years ago that Tony Cecere registered his ball hockey club still known today as the Armored Saints at a gym in the north part of the island. It was during the 1995-1995 season when the Armored Saints first began competing for PTM ballhockey leagues playing in the Open division, a division at the time allowing players without any restrictions to participate that included some big names teams such as the Montreal Storm, Oilers, Devils Knights, Bullets and many others. To their resume the long time Saints have participated in 7 Open, 4 B, 5 C+, 26 C, 6 D and 2 E divisions and to their credit were able to capture glory on two occasions dating back to the winter of 1998-1999 as Open division winners and summer of 1999 as C champions. Some players from the Armored Saints also had the privilege to play at the Eastern Regionals B 1999 in Brampton Ontario, C 2000 in Saint John New Brunswick and C 2001 in Montreal. Before starting off with PTM ball hockey leagues the Armored Saints began their journey in 1994 at Francois Perrault for 3 sessions, 5 in DDO and 1 in RDP. That’s plenty of ballhockey for any standards and from that point in time dating back to 1994 the Armored Saints have yet to take a season off. Captains like Tony Cecere are few now a days as it is very difficult to keep a team together especially for that long period of time. Even after having gone through neck surgery and being out for 2 sessions, Tony Cecere still managed to keep his troops intact to continue the legacy of his club.Happy 50th Anniversary Armored Saints

Simply too strong,Quebec dominates Eastern Regionals

From calibers B, C, D and women’s, Quebec captures 4 gold’s, 3 silvers and 1 bronze medal. Prior to the tournament it came to no surprise to expect nothing less as all teams and team captains did an excellent job preparing for months to put the best unit possible out there. The Generals representing the lone Quebec B team cruised to a fairly easy championship after building a quick comfortable lead versus the Mississauga Flash. The feature final did however occur in the C calibre where two familiar teams involving the Capitals and Royal Flush clashed in a battle that took only one direction by the second period where the Capitals where able to put a strangle hold on the match leading to another of many acolytes for the legendary club. In the newly added D division involving 4 Quebec teams, all made it to the semi final rounds where Nick.Cinquino and the Northstars held goal as the first ever D division champions at an Eastern Regional tournament. They had to do it versus a rival opponent in the Vipers where both clubs presently play in the difficult C Monday night division. As for the bronze medal game, it was somewhat expected that both the Bramabulls and the Justin Gladiators faced off against each other as both teams may have lacked some depth compared to the Vipers and the Northstars. That being mentioned the Bramabulls did claim third seed as bronze medal champions. And of course how can we forget the women’s final that also involved two Quebec teams between the Powerball and the Warriors only to have the Powerball come out on top as winners. All in all it was just another successful performance from all participants as many bring home plenty of hardware and wonderful memories for years to come.

Dekhockey de la Capitale wins women's provincial title

The Quebec Ball Hockey Association was hosting the 3rd edition of its Women’s Provincial Championship, last February 2-3 at Laval Centre Sport Expo.

Dekhockey de la Capitale won the qualifier, Dek Drummond came in second for spots at the Canadian Ball Hockey Association National Championships which will be held in Montreal in August, while the Warriors and Pure Laine settled for spots at Eastern Regional Championships, in Oakville from July 25-28.

Round Robin

Eight teams participated in the Provincial Championship, in what was a marathon of matches. All eight clubs were divided into 2 divisions and played three games each on the Saturday to determine who would advance in Sunday’s elimination rounds. Two teams captured the spot light as both Dekhockey de la Capitale and Dek Drummond won their respective groups in a dominating fashion with 3-0 records. That was enough to get a direct spot into the semi finals where they waited for their opponents.

Quarter Finals

After what was an intense quarter final battle between Les Coyotes de Lanaudière and Les Pure Laine, it was Anne-Julie Boucher’s second period goal that proved to be the game winner advancing Les Pure Laine to the next round.

The other match up saw the Warriors dictate the pace as a short handed marker from Kristine Daoust and a power play goal by Brittany Diabo’s second of the day was plenty for a 3-0 shutout win that also included a perfect performance from their net minder Sophie Boyer.

Semi Finals

This left four teams and two semi final matches where the round robin group winners prevailed. For the first and only time during the week end, Dekhockey de la Capitale conceded a goal that came off the blade of Amanda Lalande of the Pure Laine but managed to squeeze a tight 2-1 victory anyway with efforts by Geneviève Turgeon and Karine Demeule.

As for the other semi final match up, Dek Drummond needed two late goals by Mariève Provost and Julie Casavecchia to claim a 3-1 victory versus the Warriors.

 Bronze Final

As for the bronze medal game, the Pure Laine riffled a total of five tallies thanks to Marie-Hélène Desrosiers’ hat trick in a 5-3 victory versus the Warriors.

Gold Final

Finally, Dekhockey de la Capitale and Dek Drummond squared off in a much anticipated game. Both sides played perfect defence along with a solid goaltending. Caroline Ouellet, member of ice hockey Team Canada, ended the game by scoring the lone overtime goal for Dekhockey de la Capitale. Caroline Ouellet not only scored that deciding marker but was able to lead all players in points with two goals and eight assists in the round robin stages. Apart from her brilliant performance, Dekhockey de la Capitale can look back and feel great about how well they defended all weekend long by allowing only one goal and limiting their opponents to a minimal amount of shots on goal. Julie Fleury-Roy and Audrey Brouard were definitely a factor between the pipes recording four shutouts in five games.

Congratulations to all four clubs for representing Quebec at this summer’s Nationals in Montréal and Eastern Regionals in Oakville.
