J-F Gagnon rescues 1 Timer with two power play goals after drawing in the opening contest

The 1 Timer got off to a strong start in the first period, as P-A Surprenant scored twice to give his club a 3-1 lead. Carnage eventually responded by the second with a pair of tallies that included the equalizer with J.Bourlakos’s third point of the game. The next stage came down to the goaltenders making the difference. Each side sent three players in the shootout that saw both B.Madonis of Carnage and F.Koch of the 1 Timer deny two out of the three attempts. The second contest was nearly as close as the first one but this time the 1 Timer found a way to edge out their opponent. The turning point was due to the special teams. On three power play chances, the 1 Timer made sure to seize the opportunities. J-F Gagnon had both goals on the power play as part of a three point performance. Carnage did pull within one courtesy of J.DiMarco but that goal came with only 20 seconds left in the game.

Even though the 23^rd Hour may have dropped a shootout decision in the opening contest, P.Salvo and his troops were extremely pleased with their overall Monday night performance. Each side played to a 2-2 tie after one period before going on a scoring drought the rest of the way. With the goaltenders stepping it up, only a shootout would have determined who would prevail. Unfortunately for D.Mucciardi and the 23^rd Hour, L.Verdon found enough space to beat the net minder and grab the victory. On the other side of the court, J-F Simard recorded the win allowing only two goals by the very same M.El-Aintabli. The second match started off similar to the opening contest, at least in the first period as both sides traded a goal apiece. But it was by the second frame that this game tilted in one direction. The 23^rd Hour simply out worked and out played Les Yables resulting in four goals. J-F Nadeau and C-P ledge each scored twice and D.Mucciardi was stellar enabling his club to play with the lead. The 23^rd Hour collected four big points against a team that looks to be one of the front runners of the division.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to David Mucciardi of the 23^rd Hour. The goaltender was sharp against a potent offence helping his club collect four crucial points to the standings.

Punishers carry momentum after late win

The Punishers came out slow against Venom, but rallied for three goals in the second period to sneak out the tight win. They did get help after Venom took back to back penalties .A.Centis and M.Baccari each scored with the man advantage right before C.Gingras gave his club their first lead of the game. Gingras scored with only two minutes remaining securing the come from-behind victory. The second contest didn’t start the same for the Punishers as they carried their momentum right away. Once again, C.Gingras sparked his club with the help of D.Ruiz as both players were part of setting up the first two goals. Just like in the previous match, Venom kept it close and hung in there but only until the mid way point of the second period. It was at that moment that the Punishers pulled away netting three goals in only four minutes. A.Centis set up Gingras and J.Hurtubise while M.Baccari scored the other with the help of K.Tsoukalas. Despite dropping both games, Venom put up a real good challenge without their prolific goals scorers in B.Deslauriers and J.Courteau.
