(2)Smooth Sailors vs Communists (4) Game 1 shootout
Communists rally to edge Smooth Sailors in shootout
The Communists found themselves down a pair of goals in the third period before capitalizing on two chances to force a shootout. The win came with the help of two of their better players. Captain J.Adamou and J.Provost-Blais took the leadership role by not only scoring third period goals but also providing the only two shootout markers that beat A.Grieco. The Smooth Sailors had the better start taking a step in the right direction when N.Cordileone and M.Argiris struck in a short span. For well over two periods, A.Grieco and the Smooth Sailors looked like they could do no wrong. But just like the Smooth Sailors did earlier, the Communists found a way to return the favor with back to back tallies. Another big piece to the puzzle was the brilliant performance by J.Vrettis, who had a strong showing in the shootout stopping two very high skilled players in M.Testolina and J.Morina.

Playoff performer T.J.Ward shines again, Communists crowned C Tuesday champs
T.J Ward may be overshadowed by players such as J.Adamou and J.Provost-Blais but his playoff performance will put him in the conversation as who the MVP really is. The forward scored three times and added an assist to cap off a four point night. Two of his goals came with the man advantage, but it was his shorthanded marker that may have ultimately deflated the morale of the Smoot Sailors. The Communists just fed off that early second period sequence where they erupted with four straight tallies to dictate the match. At that point, the Smooth Sailors were not in a position to come back in the game, especially being down by four and knowing that J.Vrettis wasn’t going to let that kind of lead slip away. The Smooth Sailors will look back at game one and ask themselves what they could have done to prevent a third period collapse. With the margin of error being so fine between two very good teams, the Communists found a way to overcome the adversity that just made them better as the series went on. On behalf of Hockeyballe.com, congratulations got out to John Adamou and the Communists for capturing the C Tuesday division championship.
The SalumiVino player of the night goes to John Vrettis of the Communists. The net minder won a big shootout battle and faced over 40 shots in two games to help lead his team to a championship.
