Wednesday August 15 (F Round 1 playoffs)

(5)Horsemen vs Les Raymonds(2)

T.Karasek hat trick sends Horsemen through next round

In tonight's opening round of the playoffs, it showed that Les Raymonds couldn't hang on with the Horsemen. Surely it helps when a player such as T.Karasek suits up for the big games. The Horsemen went up 2-1 before T.Karasek separated himself-from everyone else. The power forward scored three consecutive goals for his club that included a big power play marker late in the second period. Even though the deficits weren't too far apart, Les Raymonds didn't have enough push back in their game. A few trips to the penalty box didn't help their case either as the Horsemen made them pay twice on four chances.

(6)Hellfish vs Golden Knights (5) O.T

Game of inches favours Hellfish in do or die match

No matter how much of a great start they had, the Golden Knights will be grieving for a while after this loss. They entered the night with no pressure but still the belief that they could have gotten it done. By leading 4-2 at one point during the match, the pressure turned on the Hellfish to respond. Slowly but surely the contest would eventually shift in a different direction. The Hellfish took over the second portion of the match to at least give themselves a shot at winning it in overtime. C.Dapoulias came through with back to back goals which helped set the stage for the most important minutes of the season for the two sides. By that point, it was anyone's game. Three minutes was what it took for D.Ramada to send the Hellfish through to the semi finals by notching the sudden death winner.

With the Horsemen and Hellfish getting it done, four teams are now left to battle it out in the semi finals. The match-up are as follows:

(1) Winter Soldiers vs Horsemen (5) it's safe to say that with a 10-1-1 record that the Winters Soldiers should prevail in this series. However, that won't in any way concern the Horsemen who have been in this position many times before.  Experience is a vital tool and the Horsemen have it. Unless the Winter Soldiers take this series for granted they will be fine.

(2)Kentucky Blue vs Hellfish(3) There is too much depth on both sides for any sort of certainties. The Kentucky Blue may have some natural goal scorers up front but on the flip side, the Hellfish can be a pain when it comes to defending. This series will be your classic offense versus defensive styled match up.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Thomas Karasek of the Horsemen. Natural goal scores don't always show up for the big games but that wasn't the case for T.Karasek as the Horsemen forward did more than his share providing three goals.

 (3)Fat Cats vs Team Haiti(5)

Early gift still not good enough for Fat Cats

Even with two team goals because of the delay of game rule coupled with a late first period power play marker-from F.Atkinson, the Fat Cats still found a way to lose. And it wasn't like Team Haiti took over immediately as of the second period. Granted, they did win the frame 1-0 but it wasn't nearly enough to overcome a deep hole they created. The comeback occurred only as of the three minute mark of the final frame. H.Merone got the ball rolling while J.Benel evened the score with his first of two in the period. E.Charron got credited the winner after receiving a pass-from Reginald Morne, who finished his night with three assists. Both teams only played two full periods with Team Haiti clearly the better of the two sides in the final stretch.

(4)Punishers vs HBHA Masters 37+(2)

Punishers double up rival thanks to their top gun

It's become normal at this point that P.Karvouriaris is the difference make for the Punishers, and that's despite many others that can hurt you on the same roster. His two goals and one assist was too much for the HBHA Masters on this particular night. And as vital as he was to helping his team win, perhaps the biggest goal of the game belonged to K.Tsoukalas. This contest was deadlocked at two goals apiece when the Punishers d-man snapped the tie late in the second period. That tally stood up due to a few factors, but primarily because N.Mackeen didn't budge making enough key saves.
