Norm Spitzer Appointed as JTC Director of Scouting

On behalf of the CBHA High Performance Program, it is with great pleasure to announce the appointment of Norm Spitzer as the Junior Team Canada Director of Scouting. With a tremendous track record the Junior Team Canada program has had over the past six years, its not far to look that Norm has been an instrumental part of the success (4 golds, 1 silver and 1 bronze). Norm from Edmonton, Alberta has been scouting JTC players since 2007, and has the eye and the knowledge to put the talent needed on the floor. In his first JTC scouting year, Norm was appointed as the U16 Head Coach for the first ever Canada squad. Norm along with 22 players that he assembled brought back from Zvolen, Slovakia the first World U16 Gold awarded by the ISBHF.

Norm in his 16th year with minor ball hockey continues to be a huge part of the Minor Ball Hockey Edmonton Association scene. Along with his son Tyrel, he has put many high calibre teams not only on the floor within the hometown league, but as well as coaching/managing 10 teams at the Western Challenge Cup Championships and 6 at Junior Nationals. Norm in 2012 was part of the U16 & U18 JTC squads as he was the Assistant General Manager overseas in Pisek, Czech Republic. With the experience of two Junior World events and 7 of the last 9 Junior Nationals, Norm knows what type of player it takes to compete on the world stage. One of Norm's many tasks will be to seek out scouts across the country to have coast to coast input to the JTC program.

Norm also has over 30+ years of experience in a leadership level with Ice Hockey including stints as President of the Mill Wood Hockey Association and the South Side Athletic Club where he has seen numerous players go on to the WHL, AJHL, NCAA and NHL.

I personally would like to thank and welcome Norm as I look forward to continuing to work with him and building a strong national program for our youths of Canada.

Gary Slavin,
CBHA High Performance Minors Director
