Paolo Delli Colli and the Nature Boys primed in season debut

Paolo Delli Colli probably couldn’t have asked for a better start to the season. The Nature Boys goaltender stopped all but one shot earing two wins that included a 19 save shutout. But the verdict was more than the net minder flashing his glove and making sound saves. The Nature Boys came out hot out of the gates as a confident group that will surely challenge any opponent on most nights. After collecting a slight 2-1 win in the opening contest, the Nature Boys remained dialled in and collected a more convincing 3-0 result in the ensuing encounter. A.Pittarelli had a major influence offensively scoring three out of his clubs five goals. The Excalibur could have used some extra help with their shorter bench but that’s what happens when clubs are forced to conserve their energy due to a lack of players.

Orient get the better of the front runners Punishers

The Orient laid down the law on Monday night handing a team that isn’t used to losing often a pair of losses. Sadly for the Punishers, a deep roster with a ton of talent still managed to fall short to the hands of the Orient. Both games were close with arguably the special teams being one the difference makers. B.Cabral snapped a 1-1 tie on the power play in the first encounter while Y.Derohannesian did the same in the following match but in a shorthanded situation. But perhaps what was more remarkable for the Orient on this night was the play of their net minder. T.Chouinard’s 43 save spectacle paced his club as they surged past a team that scores at will. There was no doubt his teammates attribute the wins to his outstanding performance between the pipes where he repeatedly frustrated the Punishers on numerous occasions. And while goaltending is so essential, the Orient can always rely on their strength up front as well  where B.Cabral propelled his club on a hat trick in the first game and M.Morin potting in  a pair in the second match.

Bad Boys Inc spreading out the wealth on a pair of easy wins

The Bad Boys Inc have comprehensively out-played the Classics and it showed only in the first period alone where they ran up the score on four unanswered goals. The Classics know that they cant afford to surrender a bad start when going up against a much quicker side. And since the first encounter was a write off, the veteran club had the opportunity address their woes heading into the second encounter. Unfortunately, not much changed as the Bad Boys Inc simply continued-from where they left off. The only difference was that it was less than a convincing lead but never the less enough of a cushion to feel in total control of the game. Remarkably, five different players finished their night with two goals a piece. S.Archambault, P.Spadafora, V.Albanese, J.Cardinal and C.Chirola all scored twice on a defenceless P.Assadi.

Degenerates hit a wall in F.Vigliotti to split games with prolific Athletes

If the Degenerates thought the first game was an indication of what was to come in the second game, than they got it totally wrong. It seemed like they could do no wrong capitalising on many opportunities while getting the required here and there save-from J.Atch. S.Marricco showed that he can still score burying a hat trick while G.Santacroce did the same to get all of the Degenerates scoring done. Then, the second game happened and the script flipped. This time, the Prolific Athletes decided to dictate the pace, and in doing so got rewarded with a slight 2-1 margin. R.Demosthene and E.Figaro each scored in the win while F.Vigliotti was lights out stopping 27 of 28 shots.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Tommy Chouinard of the Orient. In order to limit the Punishers to only two goals in as many games, goaltending has to be at its best and T.Chouinard did not disappoint displaying an incredible performance.

(7)Left Wings vs Bramabulls(6) O.T

Bramabulls give up four straight goals in overtime loss to Left Wings

With their most recent loss on Wednesday night, the Bramabulls continue to look poor when playing without the ball. For as frustrating as this season has been for the Bramabulls , this latest defeat seemed to really sting because of how close they were to getting something out of it. Their continuous inability to prevent goals has been a thorn throughout their entire season. The Left Wings exploited the Bramabulls weakness as of the five minute mark of the third period where the downfall began for the Bramabulls. The comeback was led by a collective effort involving different players that included a late equaliser from A.Perrault, and the overtime winner by J.Argyropoulos. A.Perrault had a big part to do with the victory collecting five out of a possible seven points for the Left Wings.

(5)Screaming Eagles vs Fitforce Phoenix(6)

Fitforce Phoenix hang on to nail biter

A third period surge from the Screaming Eagles led by E.Skafidas just fell short as the Fitforce Phoenix barely hung on for the victory. Skafidas scored twice in the third period to complete his hat trick but time just wasn’t enough despite carrying all that momentum. The importance of a better start definitely helped secure the win for the Fitforce Phoenix. B.Cabral and Ali Khanafer shared two goals each and everything appeared fine for two straight periods. Luckily enough, there four goal margin played out to be just enough in the end.

(8)Buckshots vs Fatal Demons(7)

Fatal Demons wake up late in effort to comeback versus Buckshots

Against one of the top teams of their division, the Fatal Demons entered the third period with a four goal deficit. And despite mounting a massive comeback, a five goal third period surge still wasn’t enough. The Buckshots must of thought this had this game in the bag. Anytime you lead by four after a pair of dominant periods, the mind set will only suggest for an easy win, especially with the pride of the Buckshots players. However, they did get a rude awakening despite taking then win. Sometimes teams that come off  a positive result don’t feel good about their game. This surely was the case for the Buckshots, who would have been devastated  if things turned out differently. K.Kavan led the way up front posting a hat trick while N.Kokovidis was involved in the action as well bagging two goals.

(6)Bulldogs vs Horsemen(7)

Horsemen rally with four goal third period to beat Bulldogs

Down by a pair after two periods, the Horsemen huddled in between periods and responded with a great comeback effort in the third. Clearly the Horsemen didn’t want to be put in that situation, but the guys stuck together, dug deep and just kept chipping away. E.Caccavale had already scored in the opening frame before being the first to score in the third period comeback .Tonight’s winner came in an unusual manner with B.Rubino feeding an empty cage for his second of the contest. For two straight periods, the Bulldogs couldn’t have asked for a better display. M-A Beaumelle was feeling it on this night riding a hat trick and S.Lague was very productive collecting three points for the Bulldogs.

(3)Fat Roy vs Armadillos(4)

Fat Roy fall apart in third period

During an eye opening sequence that lasted two periods, K.Kakivelis was by far the story of the match as the skilled forward riffled all three goals for Fat Roy. But, in the end, his outstanding performance was overshadowed because the Armadillos scored three unanswered goals in the third period and stunned Fat Roy 4-3. C.Zafiropoulos stressed that a desperation level needs to be high for three straight periods and not two. Granted, the Armadillos isn’t an easy team to keep a strangle hold for most of the game. Eventually, they would put it together and steal the contest from their opponent. P.Legatos, P.Lapointe and G.Vouloumanos each scored in the final frame to overcome the deficit.

In a night where all five games were high scoring, decided by only one goal, and most of the action involving third period comebacks, the SalumiVino player of the night goes to Alexandre Perrault of the Left Wings. Throughout the entire game versus the Bramabulls, A.Perrault was a force accumulating five points that involved key plays to help mount a comeback victory for his team.

Classics use lead to their advantage

M.Destounis broke a scoreless tie, P.Assadi made 10 saves for a shutout, and the Classics hung on to beat Les Immigrant in the first contest. The Classics knew they were going up a desperate club. Even though they sit in a playoff spot, Les Immigrant would have loved nothing more than to at least get a split. Unfortunately, the second game didn’t go there way either despite getting on board twice. It was the same player that came to haunt Les Immigrant with M.Destounis striking first while setting up two teammates. Les Immigrant never had the luxury to play with the lead, something that’s difficult to do versus a stingy club. Their lone tallies came from a reliable source in A.Addante.

Orient settle the score in shootout after dropping opener to Punishers

The Punishers were all but 40 seconds away from claiming two clean wins over the Orient. After taking the opening contest by a 3-1 margin, the Punishers couldn’t hold up long enough, and in the end had to settle for a shootout loss. It was only fitting that M.Morin would come through and rescue the Orient. Morin scored twice, collected an assist before bagging the lone shootout marker. The Punishers got offensive contributions from pretty much everyone in these two games rather than relying on their key guys.

Degenerates slip out a pair of character wins over Excalibur

It certainly wasn’t easy, but the Degenerates took both their games versus their rival on Monday night. Both games required quite a bit of resilience on the Degenerates side, something that’s been asked of them all season. The first game was decided fairly late when D.Charbonneau broke a 2-2 tie. The Degenerates knew the second match was going to be that much more difficult. However, they did manage to play in front which clearly gave them an advantage. G.Santacroce made his effort pay off as the young talent scored early in the second period to snap a 1-1 tie. The Excalibur once again fell behind and unfortunately saw their deficit grow larger when L.Folini struck minutes later. That was Folini’s second of three points during the match with his third point being part of an empty net marker.

Fatigue not an issue for Punishers in double header night

The Punishers were faced with a difficult path ahead of them on Monday night. A tough back to back stretch starting with the Orient, and followed by a matchup with a very familiar opponent in the LG HC, somehow fatigue didn’t play a role as they managed to prevail on both occasions. It was clear they competed in both games beating the LG HC by three goals in each of the encounters. Despite the challenges they faced, the Punishers showed their true nature by fighting through and controlling both matches. The first win resembled their previous result versus the Orient that saw scoring efforts coming from different players. Then, the sleeping giant woke up, and C.Gingras took over like he’s done many times before.  Gingras scored a first period hat trick before adding his fourth tally to cap off a very productive night for his team and for himself.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to  Marino Destounis of the Classics. After potting the lone winner in the first contest versus Les Immigrant, Destounis wasn’t done yet, adding three straight points to help lead his club to a second straight win.

(6)Chiefs vs Brewers(2)

Chiefs give themselves some breathing room in big win over Brewers

The Chiefs got a sigh of relief after defeating a team that was neck and neck with them for that final playoff spot. As expected, the compete level was high as was the tension with so much on the line. Up only 3-2 after two periods, the Chiefs had their best looks early in the third period where A.Zarzour and N.Morrone scored in the first two minutes of play. That little sequence was enough to deflate the morale of the Brewers, who found themselves too deep in a hole despite plenty of time left over. If not for R.Ranieri’s brilliant sequence of saves in the first period, this game could have tilted the other way. Instead, the Chiefs are grateful and thankful that their net minder came through at a time of need.

(1)National vs Templars(2)

Templars getting back to some good habits

The Templars knew that in order to win this game, a defensive battle was required, and that’s exactly what happened on Friday night. The pace of the play suggested how geared up the Templars were throughout the entire night. They played hard, and for the  most part, limited their mistakes while getting a lights out performance from C.Muccino. Both sides traded first period goals before going through a drought in the second period. It was almost a guarantee that the next goal would ultimately decide matters. And when C.Moutafis found himself racing down the wing, the Templars were able to grab a huge lead thanks to his precise wrist shot. Still, time wasn’t an issue for National, but when considering how stingy the Templars are at times, it seemed unlikely that they would have equalised. This result came as a good character win for a team that’s overshadowed at times.

(5)Devil Dawgz vs Bramabulls(4) S.O

Devil Dawgz rally late in a night to forget for the Bramabulls

It felt safe to say that the Bramabulls had this game in the bag. After all, they played well for most of the night and carried a 3-1 and eventually a 4-2 lead with only a minute and a half remaining. Unfortunately for the Bramabulls, the Devil Dawgz had other plans. N.Faria, as he has a few times in his career, had some late game heroics. Just a minute after K.Araujo made it a one goal game, Faria scored to tie it.  The third period ended 4-4 yet it felt like the Devil Dawgz had won the game. It truly felt as if it was a matter of time before the Devil Dawgz would take it. And even though it wasn’t decided in overtime, the shootout was where the difference occurred. F.Labrecque was the only player of the six shot attempts to score while M.Trivisonno stood tall denying three straight breakaways.

(2)Pylons vs The Family(3)

Family hold off Pylons in 3-2 win

The Family held the edge in play for most of the night, but had to hold on to get a big 3-2 victory over the Pylons. For two straight periods, nothing was going right for the Pylons, not even a four minute power play that looked utterly useless. They did have a stronger effort in the third but no where close to what the Family brought forth all night. L.Cannistrano got into the mix bagging a pair of goals while M-A Daaha was clutch once again posting the winner. Up until the five minute mark of the third period, T.Borgia was flawless making enough quality saves to keep control of the game. The Pylons were simply out worked and out played on this night versus a team that was clearly ready for the challenge.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Carmen Muccino of the Templars. Despite National being one of the best offensive teams, Muccino did a fantastic job shutting them down. There was no doubt this was perhaps his best game of the season, a performance that can go a long way if the Templars play the right way in front of him.

(4)GK vs Capitals(2)

GK surge early in third period to top Capitals

Despite giving up the opening and closing goal of the game, the rest in between belonged to the GK. The Capitals managed to hang in there long enough but eventually realised it was done when M.David and F.Belisle each struck early in the third period for a 4-1 lead. It was clear that the up hill battle from that point on felt unrealistic for the Capitals having to go up against a team can shut anybody down. In his season debut, P-O Girouard did not disappoint forming his brick wall structure stopping close to 20 shots. The win saw four different players cash in with M.David’s third period marker holding up for the winner.

(2)Montreal As vs Black Knights(5)

Y.Derohannessian’s late shorty seals the deal for the Black Knights

Y.Derohannessian couldn’t have picked a better time than to notch a shorthanded goal. Although the Black Knights were in front 3-2, that tally pretty much summed up the game between the two sides with just over three minutes remaining. It was an overall solid performance from the two teams with each side carrying the play. M.Ianovale struck first to get the balling rolling for the Montreal As and didn’t give up their first tally till the four minute mark of the second period. Once the game was tied, J.Gagne took over bagging two in a row to put the Black Knights in the drivers seat. A.Lemay did eventually respond to reduce the gap but it was all for nothing as Derohannessian struck shortly after with a huge blow.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Jonathan Gagne of the Black Knights. Big time players know when to show up when the game is on the line. J.Gagne was proof of that once again for the Black Knights collecting back to back tallies after snapping a dead lock 1-1 tie.
