(4)Black Knights vs GK(0)
F.Gagnon superb in Black Knights shutout victory
The biggest rival in ball hockey took place on Tuesday night with the Black Knights winning 4-0 shutting down the high powered offensive machine of the GK. In an encounter that was supposed to be about the attacking flair of the GK side overwhelming the defensive core of the Black Knights, it was in fact F.Gagnon the difference maker. It says something when your net minder earns a clean sheet against a high octane offense. However, the Black Knights knew that it would take more than goaltending in order to keep the GK at bay. With both teams playing extremely well on the defensive side of the ball, it was only a matter of time before an opportunity would end up in one of the two nets. Unfortunately for the GK, it wound up being their net and the Black Knights were able to take a 1-0 lead thanks to M.Cerrone. The next goal proved to be crucial with J-P Moquin doubling the lead. Still, time wasn’t a factor just yet and the GK upped the pressure late in the game in hopes of a response. However , the Black Knights did an excellent job closing down the passing lanes and eventually iced the game on a pair of empty net goals. J-F DiIorio and M.Dettore each fed the yawning cage and F.Gagnon turned aside 15 shots to earn a shutout. In addition to F.Gagnon ‘s brilliant performance between the pipes, J.Lulic was a force on defense, controlling much of the play while breaking them up at the same time. The last time these two rivals met was in the summer season 2019 final where the Black Knights won the best of three series two games to one crowning them provincial champions that gave them a spot at the 2020 National championship in August in Calgary Alberta. The other spot belongs to the GK, who won the National championship last July 2019 over the Black Knights in the final.
The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Fred Gagnon of the Black Knights. It didn’t matter what the GK threw at F.Gagnon on Tuesday night. The net minder was outstanding turning aside every shot he faced in order to earn a shutout.
