The Senators will look to maintain their dominant form as they take on the Oilers in the opening round of the playoffs. Both teams just finished playing each other with the Senators barely edging out the Oilers. Despite what the standings look like, this series will be closer than what the odds suggest.

(2)Hurricanes vs. Avalanche(7)The Hurricanes will clash with the Avalanche in a matchup filled with anticipation. The Hurricanes will aim to continue their strong performance into the playoffs, while the Avalanche will look to pull off an upset and advance to the next round. The Avalanche just finished handing the Hurricanes a real hockey lesson. If the Hurricanes don’t adjust after a concerning loss, than it wont be a shock if the Avalanche pull through, especially with M.Destounis anchoring the offense.

(3)Golden Knights vs. Rangers(6)The Golden Knights will go head-to-head against the  Rangers in what is sure to be a closely contested battle. Both teams will be determined to secure a victory and advance into the next round. Despite entering as slight underdogs, the Rangers will be a very difficult out for the Golden Knights. They’ll have no choice but to run with a quicker opponent. If they apply the right game plan, than look for the Golden Knights to advance, if not, the Rangers will carry a momentum that may be very difficult to stop.

(4)Blues vs. Stars(5)The Blues will take on the Stars in a highly anticipated matchup between two evenly matched teams. With both teams vying for a spot in the next round, this matchup is bound to be intense and full of excitement. However, what just transpired with the Stars laying an egg to the very same Blues, the match up may not live up to the hype. The Stars got a real rude awakening after a devastating thumping defeat to the Blues. Granted, the Blues had some replacement players that perhaps affected the outcome. With a week to reassess and  formulate a stricter game plan, the Stars will come out better prepared which could only suggest for a closer series between the two teams.

(4)GK vs Capitals(2)

GK surge early in third period to top Capitals

Despite giving up the opening and closing goal of the game, the rest in between belonged to the GK. The Capitals managed to hang in there long enough but eventually realised it was done when M.David and F.Belisle each struck early in the third period for a 4-1 lead. It was clear that the up hill battle from that point on felt unrealistic for the Capitals having to go up against a team can shut anybody down. In his season debut, P-O Girouard did not disappoint forming his brick wall structure stopping close to 20 shots. The win saw four different players cash in with M.David’s third period marker holding up for the winner.
