2015 Winter Classic, F Division

The night’s event began with four skills competition featuring players representing the F Wednesday night division. The competition began to see who would have the most precise shot. Terron Fernando made the Brewers proud winning a tie breaker against Bobby Skafidais hitting four targets in only seven attempts. The second competition of the night involved all four goaltenders to see who would deny the most shots towards them. Amazingly enough, veteran net minder Scott Sauk allowed only one goal on 30 attempts. The winner of that event for the player went to Amit Patel, another Brewers representative that was able to riffle three out of five attempts. The third event was to see who would have bragging rights for the hardest shot. While most of the players averaged speeds in the 80’s mph, Jason Rochon brought it to another level blasting a furious 98 mph slap shot which was 10 mph harder than the second player behind him. Finally, the last competition involved the goaltenders once more to see who can flourish on the breakaways. Normally, a forward would have the edge in this contest but Kevin Miraldo did something remarkable scoring three times as the Werewolves d-man and captain merits the honour. As for the net minders, Ben Verducci protected his cage slightly better over his counter parts to win that event.

As for the main event of the night, it wasn’t your typical high scoring affair. Each side showed desperately how much they wanted to win, and contrary to playing an open style game, defence along with exceptional goaltending were determine factors. Team white had the better start winning the opening frame 3-2 with goals from Nick Giannone, Marcello Barbiero and George Lallis. Jason Rochon eventually evened the score late in the second period only to have Manny Mavroudis kill the momentum seconds later. With only one period remaining, Giancarlo Sangiovanni went to work as the Fat Cats net minder made brilliant stops enabling team white to get the better of team black by a final score of 6-4.Team white did have a significant advantage over their opponents. Costa Zafiropoulos crunched the lines together making sharp decisions that only a veteran coach can come up with.

Infiniti Park Avenue forward Jason Rochon along with the Fat Cats net minder Giancarlo Sangiovanni were named most valuable players. Rochon was the only player to score twice while Giancarlo Sangiovanni stood tall stopping difficult scoring chances.
