(5)Sons of Anaheim vs Smooth Sailors(5) Game 1
Third period meltdown gives Sailors life
As much as this was only game one, the Sons of Anaheim won’t get over the fact that they blew a 5-2 lead with less than three minutes remaining. The Smooth Sailors, however have to be given credit for pumping plenty of orange balls to creep back into the game. M.Testolina helped set up two late goals before equalizing the score for his fourth point of the game. That sequence alone set the charge of an atmosphere that the Smooth Sailors looked to carry for game two. Apart from their late collapse, the Sons of Anaheim didn’t help their cause by spending plenty of time in the penalty box. The Smooth Sailors struck as many as three times with power play goals. O.Grenier had a big game scoring twice while setting up J.Gagne for his first of two in the contest for the Sons of Anaheim. After a hard fought battle, each side refocused in preparation for game two.

Maybe it wasn’t quite the same, but the Sons of Anaheim turned the tables at least a little bit in game two. In this contest, the Smooth Sailors took three leads that got compromised every single time. Also, it was the Sons of Anaheim benefiting on their five man unit as the captain M.Laverdiere and J.Tanguy each scored late second and third period goals to even the score. Tanguy temporarily saved his clubs season with ten minutes left in the game. With their offence spread out, the Smooth Sailors got scoring efforts from three different players. The goaltenders stood up to the occasion giving their clubs every possible chance to take the series. G.Follano faced 27 shots and was just as good as his counterpart M.Cote, who denied 22 of 25 shots for the Sons of Anaheim. After playing to two straight ties, a 15 minute mini game was left to see who would be the best team of the D Tuesday division.

Smooth Sailors overwhelm Sons of Anaheim, capture D Tuesday title
Renzo Fasano and the Smooth Sailors dealt with game 3 pressure in the same way they’ve handled just about everything in their quest of reaching their goal. J.Mandracchia, M.Testolina scored early in, M.Moukas bagged a pair of tallies and the Smooth Sailors roared to a 4-1 victory to claim the D Tuesday division title. G.Follano allowed only one goal right after the Smooth Sailors grabbed a 3-0 lead. With only one loss prior to this contest, the Sons of Anaheim tasted defeat for only a second time this season, compounding the heartbreak for a talented team that hasn’t had that final touch needed for capturing a championship. As for the Smooth Sailors, it was all about business. The second place seed lived up to the challenge showing plenty of determination with confidence that had them reach the finish line. On behalf of Hockeyballe.com, congratulations go out to Renzo Fasano and the Smooth Sailors for winning it all.
