Team Canada’s depth proves too much to handle for Armenia.

In a David vs Goliath type ball hockey match-up, Armenia held their own and gave Canada all they could handle. It was clear from the start that this was going to be a very tall order for the Armenian squad, who despite being severely outshot and out chanced, managed to keep it fairly close, thanks in large part to R.Ranieri 's brilliant performance in goal. From the opening faceoff, Canada showcased their formidable skills, controlling possession and dictating the pace of the game. They never trailed throughout the game and as usual, their transition game and offensive depth was on full display, as 5 different players managed to find the back of the net. Although the odds were stacked against them, it was most definitely a good test for Armenia, who can look at this as a good building block, as they remained resilient versus a powerful adversary.

Italy hangs on and triumphs Over Pakistan in back-and-forth Nail-biter.

An intense and fiery match-up was expected, as both teams looked to get back in the win column and build any kind of momentum. From the opening whistle to the final buzzer, both teams left it all on the floor, showcasing skill, determination, and unwavering teamwork.  Pakistan came out strong, taking a 3-1 lead and moving the ball with precision and efficiency and limiting team Italy’s chances offensively. The game however turned in the 3rd period, where Pakistan got into penalty trouble and allowed Italy to capitalize by scoring 2 powerplay goals on blistering slapshots by veteran d-man P.Musto.  Pakistan, refusing to back down, tested Italy's defense and kept the pressure on throughout the remainder of the game, but C.Confuorti and Italy’s defence held the fort and stifled Pakistan’s repeated chances to emerge victorious, clinching a hard-fought 6-5 win.

Greece’s firepower proves too much for Haiti to contain in rout.

Playing a team like Greece requires an overall team effort and of course a good start, which wasn’t the case for team Haiti on this night vs a tough opponent.  Team Greece’s transition game was on full display, as the ball moved quickly from defence to offence, overwhelming Haiti, who were constantly forced to defend and be on their heels. Led by K. Kuczmarski, N.Chiminian & J. Amanatides, Greece never trailed in the game, scoring 2 goals in every frame while rolling 3 solid lines, en route to a 6-1 rout.  Their disciplined positioning and tenacious defending stifled Haiti's offensive momentum, limiting their opportunities to create scoring chances. The lone bright spot for Haiti came in the late stages when they spoiled A. Ekonomakis’s shutout bid. Top of Form

SalumiVino Player of the week: P.Musto Thanks to the Grizzled veteran d-man’s knack for the spotlight, providing 2 big powerplay goals which swung the momentum in Italy’s favor allowing them to come home with the victory.

Team Canada edges out Team Greece in shootout thriller

(4)Team Canada vs Team Greece(3) S.O

In a showdown between two powerhouse teams, Team Canada emerged victorious in a thrilling match against Team Greece. The game was a rollercoaster of momentum shifts and heart stopping action that kept fans on the edge of their seats until the final buzzer. Team Canada came out of the gates strong, quickly establishing a 2-0 lead on goals by S.Bellefleur and N.Samson. With their backs against the wall, Team Greece dug deep and found another gear posting three straight goals that had K.Kuczmarski  riffle a pair. There was almost no way that Team Canada wasn’t going to make a serious attempt at tying the game, no matter how sound A.Mancini was between the pipes. The equaliser undoubtedly came when A.Mirolla struck with just under five minutes remaining. Both teams then battled valiantly in the extra frame, but neither side could find the back of the net, sending the game into a shootout. The breakaway competition was a nerve-wracking affair, with each team’s top players going head to head against the opposing goaltender. Out of the six combined attempts, J.Bradley had the most success as the only player to score to help seal a hard fought victory for Team Canada.

Team Haiti battle back twice in tightly contested battle with Team Pakistan

(3)Team Haiti vs Team Pakistan(2)

The match was a tightly contested battled-from the opening whistle until the final buzzer. Despite facing early challenges, Team Haiti remained composed and fought tooth and nail to keep themselves in contention. With each shift, they demonstrated their speed and skill refusing to let adversity dampen their spirits. Team Pakistan, however, proved to be formidable opponents, showcasing their own prowess on the court and putting up a strong fight throughout the game. They capitalised on opportunities by M-A DiStasio and their captain O.Wahid and maintained pressure on Team Haiti, making every moment crucial in this intense matchup. As the game progressed, the momentum swung back and forth until Team Haiti controlled their fate when R.Marcellus provided their first go ahead marker early in the third period.  Since time wasn’t yet an issue, Team Pakistan still struggled to level with S.Rivest thwarting scoring opportunities-from Team Pakistan. Team Haiti were able to maintain their lead with poise and resilience, refusing to let their hard earned advantage slip away.

Team Armenia’s deep roster overwhelms Team Italy

(7)Team Armenia vs Team Italy(2)

From-the outset, it was clear that Team Armenia had come prepared, utilising their depth and versatility as they cruised to a commanding victory over a formidable Team Italy squad. Their well rounded line up allowed them to rotate seamlessly, keeping their energy levels high and their opponents on their toes throughout the game. Despite facing a strong Team Italy squad, Team Armenia wasted no time asserting their dominance on the court. Although the first period remained relatively close, Team Armenia started to pull away in the second, padding their lead with three more unanswered goals. Finally, J.Crivello got Team Italy on board early in the third period, but it didn’t matter much in the grand scheme of things. Team Armenia continued to apply more pressure which resulted in ball possession that saw their captain Y.Derohannessian rattled off a hat trick. As much as Team Italy fought valiantly to compete, they were no match for the depth put forth by a committed Team Armenia.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Sam Rivest of Team Haiti. Rivets’s acrobatic saves and unwavering focus provided a solid foundation for Team Haiti to build on, instilling confidence in their defensive efforts and allowing their offensive talents to shine.

C.Confuorti and Team Italy shut down Team Haiti

(3)Team Italy vs Team Haiti(0)

Led by a stalwart defense and stellar goaltending by C.Confuorti, Team Italy thwarted every offensive attempt-from the Haitians’s side, frustrating their opponent and limiting their scoring opportunities. Despite Haiti’s valiant efforts to break through Team Italy’s defensive wall, they struggled to find openings, as Team Italy maintained their composure and executed their game plan flawlessly. Meanwhile, Team Italy’s offense capitalised  on their chances posting goals in every period. D.Lombardi was able to strike just over two minutes in. After a drought of back and forth action where the goaltenders stood tall keeping the game honest, P.Musto was finally able to break the barrier and provide Team Italy a two goal cushion. Throughout most of the match, Team Italy continued to tighten their grip taking away as much time and space -from their opponents. For the few chances Team Haiti tried to bounce back, C.Confuorti stood in the way. The net minder was dialled in making all the necessary stops toward him to earn a well deserved shutout. The win was a testament to Team Italy’s strength and cohesion as a team, with every player contributing to the success. For Team Haiti, it was a frustrating result, but they can take pride in their effort and determination despite the outcome.

Team Greece steamrolls past Team Pakistan

(1)Team Pakistan vs Team Greece(9)

In a lopsided affair that showcased the sheer dominance of Team Greece, they surged to a commanding victory in a resounding display of skill and precision on the court. It was evident that Team Greece meant business , wasting no time in asserting their authority with swift passes, relentless pressure, and clinical finishing. The onslaught had a few players contribute, mainly-from A.Kakivelis, K.Kuczmarski, P.Arkalis and N.Kakouras as all four players chipped in with two goals each. Rather than weathering the storm as the game went on, Team Greece’s offense only intensified creating a wider and unreasonable gap for any sort of comeback attempt. The only thing left over for Team Pakistan was to try and get on board at least once. That feat was nearly achieved as the game was winding down to its final minute. Unfortunately for C.Ekonomakis, F.Nasser was there to leave a slight sour taste for the goaltender. Regardless the last minute hic up, Team Greece sent a clear message to the competition that they’ll be a very difficult out for any opponent.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Cameron Confuorti of Team Italy. Unfazed, calm and collective, C.Confuorti was exceptional energising his club in front of him by stopping every single shot he faced.

Tuesday February 27  ( Dek Elite World Division)

The much anticipated start of the Ball Hockey Dek Elite World Division ignited the courts on Tuesday night, marking the beginning of  what promises to be an exhilarating season of intense competition and unforgettable moments. With anticipation running high among players and fans alike, teams took to the court with determination and passion, ready to showcase their skills and stake their claim in the league. The division has six incredible teams involved with four that started their season debut tonight.

Team Canada’s victory over Team Haiti sets tone for the season

(6)Team Canada vs Team Haiti(1)

In a commanding display of skill and team work, Team Canada made a resounding statement in their season opener, dispatching Team Haiti with a decisive victory that showcased their strength as an immediate front runner in the division. With precision passing, relentless pressure, and clinical finishing, they quickly established control of the game and set the tone for the rest of the match up. M.David made an immediate impression riffling two first period goals. As the game progressed, Team Canada continued to pile on the pressure , extending their lead with each passing period. Its worth noting that C.Gervais made a huge impact as the solid forward was a force producing four points. While the offense will never be an issue along with a structured defence, Team Canada has another vital area covered in their team make up, and that’s their goaltending. C.Lantin occupies that position, and unless you beat him good, the net minder will deny you. Tonight, he faced some decent chances only to have C.Plaisir get the better of him. In the end, Team Canada emerged victorious with a commanding 6-1 win, sending a clear message to the rest of the league that they are a force to be reckoned with.

M-A Haber and O.Wahid help propel Team Pakistan to victory

(1)Team Armenia vs Team Pakistan(4)

In a pivotal second period, M-A Haber emerged as the catalyst for Team Pakistan, netting two crucial goals with the help of his captain O.Wahid. As the game reached its critical juncture, Haber showcased his scoring prowess with clinical precision to help put his side up 3-1 heading into the third. The dynamic duo of Haber and Wahid proved to be unstoppable during that span. That was just part of the story line as Team Pakistan got a well rounded effort -from everyone. A.Chaudury had his fingerprints on the score sheet as well posting two big goals. It may not have been the result they were hoping for, but Team Armenia’s performance was characterised by moments of inspiration and resilience, as they never allowed themselves to be discouraged or overwhelmed by the circumstances. Instead, they remained focused and committed to their game plan, pushing themselves to the limit in pursuit of victory. In the end, while the result may not have gone in their favour, Team Armenia’s valiant effort and fighting spirit did not go unnoticed.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to M-A Haber of Team Pakistan. His ability to capitalise on scoring opportunities not only bolstered Team Pakistan’s lead, but also shifted the momentum decisively in their favour.

Black Knights dethrone GK Lite on back of J.Crivello double OT winner

(4)Black Knights vs GK Lite(3) OT(2)

The GK’s bid for a third straight title was denied by the Black Knights on Thursday night. It showed-from as soon as the ball dropped that the Black Knights didn’t want to sit back while applying an aggressive fore-check. And when they needed a save, F.Gagnon was there to back them up. The Black Knights owned much of the first period scoring three of the four goals by D.Lombardi, P.Abandonado and S.Racicot. They played a period expected of a team eager to end a series. The GK Lite had some scoring chances, but F.Gagnon kept standing in the way. While the first period was a step in the right direction, the final frame had a different story line. This time, the GK Lite were the ones that played with more urgency with their season on the line. As long as they got the next goal this contest was far-from being decided. Eventually, they got their thanks to G.Lubwele narrowing the gap by one right before K.Kuczmarski tied the game a minute later. Once the equaliser came, the two teams played the edgy ,defense stingy style that often wins championships. It came to that point in a game where neither side could have afforded a mistake. Luckily enough, the goaltending did not disappoint with F.Gagnon and P.Caouette keeping their clubs in it. The Black Knights and the GK Lite didn’t just need one overtime period to decide matters, but a second one before something was to give. There were enough big chances for somebody to play the hero. As long as both sides kept finding ways to generate a shot on net, something was bound to go in. That pivotal moment finally came courtesy of J.Crivello, who made sure to bury his chance and end the stalemate in what was a grinding and thrilling hockey game. In the perspective of the GK Lite, it may have felt disappointing knowing they were right there for a third straight title. The GK Lite didn’t relinquish their grip on the title without a fight. They never quit and left everything on the court which is expected-from a side with a winning pedigree. But tonight did belong to a side that’s just got accustomed to one another in a very short period of time. While many know the Black Knights have been around for several decades, 34 years to be exact, this particular group are fairly new to an ongoing legacy. It just went to show by putting together the right pieces along with the proper guidance anything is possible. Congratulations go out to the Black Knights for winning the Dek Elite Championship.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Fred Gagnon of the Black Knights. Facing the GK Lite as a goaltender carries a ton of pressure. That being said, F.Gagnon was dialled in-from the very beginning making a bunch of key saves to help lead his team to a well earned victory.

F.Gagnon posts shutout as Black Knights edge out Team Greece

(0)Team Greece vs Black Knights(2)

F.Gagnon gave the Black Knights just what they needed on Tuesday night. The net minder stopped every shot he faced, and the Black Knights couldn’t have played a better sound defensive game. Clearly, it took a hard, grinding, effective effort against the rival Team Greece in order to defeat them. While the goaltending was exceptional-from the two sides, the limited offense came in the first period by J.Velenosi and J.Mandracchia. The Black Knights had the luxury of using the lead to their advantage by taking less risks. With Team Greece trying to open up a little more, they just couldn’t find a way to penetrate the defense along with F.Gagnon, who was stellar stopping some high end chances. In order to blank your opponent at this level, it takes everyone to support one another while buying into a game plan. The Black Knights seemed to have the confidence as the game went on by doing all the little things right in order to capture the win.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Fred Gagnon of the Black Knights. The goaltender held his club in it needing only one goal for how stellar he was recording a well earned shutout.

Mtl Machine cruise for an easy win over the Bengals

(7)Mtl Machine vs Bengals(0)

It didn’t take long for the Mtl Machine to completely dominate the Bengals in the first period, raining goals on them to dash any hopes for a comeback. The Bengals remained clueless in the face of the Mtl Machines powerful attack surrendering six tallies in the first period alone. Goals came-from five different players with J.Morina and P.Heroux sharing two each. For a five minute stretch or so, J.Morina had his hand in four straight goals for the Mtl Machine setting up P.Heroux and S.Morello while rattling a pair himself. The Bengals knew after one period that they were done, but tried to remain competitive in hopes of avoiding an embarrassing loss. Unfortunately, it was just a bad night as P.Heroux was able to close it out with his second and end the game earlier than expected due to the seven goal mercy rule. On the few shots he faced, C.Fortin was able to record the shutout.

The SalumiVino player of the game goes to Johnny Morina of the Mtl Machine. A good chunk of the offense emerged from the quarterback defenseman. Four out of the seven tallies stemmed-from J.Morina, who scored twice while setting up a pair of teammates.

Team Greece use flurry of late goals to beat GK Lite

(6)Team Greece vs GK Lite(2)

Back with a bang. Team Greece was able to erase a sour taste after losing their season opener only a week ago by taking on the GK Lite on Tuesday night. They addressed many concerns that arose during that game, and it showed as a reactivated Team Greece led the charge. It all began in the first period with P.Arkalis and C.Gingras igniting the offense. Up 2-0 entering the second frame, Team Greece wanted nothing more than to let the GK Lite back into the game. Your almost stuck having to search for the next goal rather than trying to keep a lethal offense off the score sheet. S.Pham didn’t wait long into the second period to finally get his side on board. From-there, the GK Lite waited a while to post their next tally, but they did get there first to even things up thanks to K.Kuczmarski. All of a sudden, this contest was knotted at two goals a piece with the GK Lite gaining momentum. While the GK Lite wave of offense started roll, it was P.Arkalis to take the bull by the horns once more as the forward riffled his hat trick to regain the lead for Team Greece. That tally created an effect throughout Team Greece’s line up as three more consecutive goals were scored in a very short span. P.Arkalis had a monster night collecting his fourth, all with the help of C.Gingras finding him. Every time the GK Lite would press, C.Ekonomakis was there to bail out Team Greece. The net minder was stellar as expected stopping some high quality chances that could have easily beaten him. This was definitely a feel good victory for a side that has the potential to make some noise in this division.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Peter Arkalis of Team Greece. The GK Lite defense and goaltender had no answers on how to slow down P.Arkalis, who struck four times while setting up two teammates.

Tuesday May 23

The start of the Dek Elite regular season has finally arrived. With the ball about to be dropped, every team has high hopes for their upcoming season. Whether its the GK looking to defend their title or for the rest of the teams to de-throne them, there is plenty of optimism throughout the entire league. The regular season kicked off with its first two games on Tuesday night.

Sitting Bulls use five unanswered goals to stun Black Knights

(6) Sitting Bulls vs Black Knights(4)

The Sitting Bulls started off their season in a thrilling fashion, scoring five unanswered goals to stun the Black Knights. A strong finish to the first period sent the Black Knights into the intermission with a 3-1 lead, but the Sitting Bulls eventually got their comeback cooking. All it took was one minute for things to turn around in a hurry with J.Sirois scoring two quick goals to complete his hat trick. The Sitting Bulls were able to hit the Black knights with some serious pressure where they did most of their damage in such a short period of time. Once they fell behind, the Black Knights  had no answers on how to recuperate. C.Placentine would go on to add his second, and S.Patel rebounded with a solid second period making some nice key saves. In the perspective of the Sitting Bulls side, its not the right way to start a game finding yourself down 3-1 after one period. But to their credit, they stuck with it, and played with enough purpose and belief to overcome the hurdle. The problem was more so for the Black Knights inability to close out the deal along with the inability of scoring at even strength since all four tallies came on the power play. Since its only the first game of a young regular season comprised of many new faces, losing in this fashion wont be a big deal as the players look to gel together and grow as a team. Chemistry takes time, but the Black Knights do have the right pieces in order to put it together.

Team Greece torched in loss to Mtl Machine

(0)Team Greece vs Mtl Machine(7)

Once J.Lulic opened the scoring, the Mtl Machine would continue to dent the scoreboard cashing in four times in only seven minutes. M.D’Ettore was perhaps the master mind behind the madness as the skilled forward helped set up three of the fours goals that saw J.Forese benefit twice. While the Mtl Machine seemed to have no issues on how they played out their season opener, the same couldn’t be said for a side that has to be wondering what went wrong. Team Greece were outplayed for most of the game, and couldn’t generate much up front with zero goals to show for. Even if your stuck heading into the final frame down 4-0, you try to make the best of the final frame despite it being a difficult task to overcome. Instead, things continued-from where they left off with the Mtl Machine showing no mercy. M.D’Ettore added a goal to his point total while P.Gendron and J.Morina added some comfort tallies to end the night earlier than expected. No doubt it was a disappointing start to the season if your Team Greece, but its only one game and things will  get better as they’ll nourish the roster with more quality players.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Jimmy Sirois of Sitting Bulls. With his side looking down and out, J.Sirois was the catalyst behind the comeback bagging three goals that included two to break the lead and provide an insurance marker.

Le Rinque crowned provincial champions

(6)Le Rinque vs dek Boucherville(4) (Final)

The stage was finally set for some of ball hockey’s finest talent to compete at its highest level in what turned out to be a wonderful afternoon . After Le Rinque edged out the Dek Lanaudiere by a slight 3-2 margin in the semi final round, Dek Boucherville was left standing in the way for the ultimate feat. Prior to the regular season and their playoff run, Le Rinque entered as the heavy favourites, and instead of folding under the weight of their own greatness, Le Rinque did exactly what was expected of them: They won the Dek Elite division. The players hailed the atmosphere in the establishment giving them that little extra adrenaline during the warm up that helped get them into the game. Once the ball dropped, Le Rinque managed to swat aside their opponent, their bugbear throughout the regular season but not in the final where Le Rinque were dominant for most of the match. Le Rinque’s depth and class proved to be too much in the end. Though Dek Boucherville made things difficult, Le Rinque were able to play around the Dek Boucherville controlling most of the play which resulted in a glorious finish. Many different players took turns finding the back of the net, an attribute that didn’t involve relying on any particular players, but that of an overall solid performance. Le Rinque have always been extremely good for a few years now reaching plenty of finish lines making tonight’s contest just another day at the office for Dahn Nguyen and his players.  In the end, the better team turned it up like a silver bullet proving once more that they are the real deal. On behalf of Hockeyballe.com, congratulations go out to Dahn Ngyuen of Le Rinque for capturing the Dek Elite championship, and to Jocelyn Decarie of the Dek Boucherville, who took charge running a highly skilled team.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Karl Leveille of Le Rinque. Leveille was a force throughout the season, and especially when it mattered the most during the big game.

With this victory, Le Rinque will be the top seed representing Quebec at the 2022 Nationals held in Hamilton Ontario. The CBHA and TC were present to select players for camp in October for next years(2022) World Championships held in Laval.

Dek Boucherville keeps rising

(8)Dek Boucherville vs Dek St-Eustache/St-Jerome(1)

Dek Boucherville continues to highlight why they are an absolute juggernaut. They came out swinging-from the drop of the ball, and they landed blow after blow onto the jaw of their opponent. So devastating that the Dek St-Eustache knew they had little to no chance, especially by finding themselves in the penalty box a little to often. In their first four goals alone, the Dek Boucherville moved the carpet capitalizing four times with the man advantage. During that span, A.Fradette had already completed his hat trick while M-A Trudeau scored the other as part of a dominant four goal performance. The Dek S-Eustache realized right away you cant give a team like that an inch and expect to survive, but the damage had already been done early on which cemented an easy win for a side running on all cylinders. There only little bright moment came when C.Farmer beat M.Jobin for a rare time. Tonight’s lesson will remind teams to stay out of the penalty box against the Dek Boucherville, who potted six out of their eight goals on the power play.

Centre SportXpo get Monkey off their back, despite short bench

(3)Centre SportXpo vs Dek Lanaudiere(2)

The Centre SportXpo had been in the grind-from the start of the season and wanted nothing more than to finally get into the win column. And although it didn’t help playing with a shortened bench, the troops bought into a system and were eventually rewarded in what was a tough battle with the Dek Lanaudiere. Its safe to say they took advantage of one key area of the game which was the power play. All three goals came with the man advantage for the CentreSportXpo, with scoring efforts-from three different players. Perhaps the key marker came when M.St-Cyr snapped a second period 1-1 tie. The voice level for T.Iannitto was noticeably raised-from that point on, and the teams effort level raised knowing what was at stake trying to avoid another loss. Some breathing room did occur when P.Chery widened the gap by two. The captain M.Fortier did have the last say for Dek Lanaudiere, but time just wasted there for the comeback. The Centre SportXpo slipped-from the start of the season and look to get back on track. Maybe a character win as such will turn the tides for a club in search of answers.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Antoine Fradette of Dek Boucherville. Just an incredible start for a player that’s able to bury three power play goals in a very short period of time.

Ball Hockey Quebec

The Quebec Ball Hockey Association is rebranding!Today we present our new logo with a new name: Ball Hockey Quebec

In this new logo, we see the famous orange ball representing the sport of ball/dek hockey. The province of Québec is represented by the fleur-de-lis, and its classic form was deconstructed by detaching a petal from the flower to resemble the shape of the ball. The three shapes are surrounded by a circle representing all 3x3, 4x4 and 5x5 leagues and players under the banner.

Stay tuned for more information from the official governing body of ball hockey in Québec!

Red Lite A division champions
Red Lite A Division Champions

Monday May 15(Finals)

(2)Black Knights vs Red Lite(4) Game 3

Red Lite crowned again as best team in hockey

After only three games in, Red Lite defeated the Black Knights 4-2, to complete a three game sweep and win the Premier division once more. Despite a respectable effort, the Black Knights got deflated in the third period where Red Lite capitalized twice less than a minute apart. J.Provost-Blais snapped the dreaded 2-2 tie for his second with the man advantage, and M.David put the final dagger only moment s later, also for his second that surely provided enough of a lead with eight minutes remaining. Every game was close in this series but the Black knights couldn’t get that timely goal to get any sort of advantage. The saying of good teams always find a way to win surely summed up this series. Red Lite, whether they trail or play with a tie will more often than not find a way to get the job done. Once again, the ball hockey giants proved to everyone how good they really are by winning the Premier division. On behalf of Hockeyballe.com, congratulations goes out to Carl Ghilarducci and the rest of Red Lite for capturing the A division title.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Joel Provost-Blais. The forward scored back to back goals that snapped a third period tie along with providing an assist to finish with a solid three point night.

Note that both Red Lite and the Black Knights will be representing Quebec at this years Nationals. Red Lite will be classified as QB1 and the Black Knights will be QB2.The event will take place from August 7 - 13 at Saint John New Brunswick.

Dek Hockey Drummond takes home the 2015 provincial championship

Dek Hockey Drummond takes home the 2015 provincial championshipA three goal one assist performance by Stephanie Savoie propels Dek Hockey Drummond to 4-0 shutout win over le Diablo de Montreal. It’s Dek Hockey Drummonds fourth final at the provincial qualifier, and after dropping two straight, they regained their crown as Quebec’s best team. Savoie led the way in two categories capturing the most points with eight while scoring the most riffling up to five goals. Apart from her brilliant display, the current champs got efforts from every single player in their line up out scoring their opponents 16-2 in four games. Two of those results were shutouts earned by Krystel Boutin who did a splendid job protecting her cage. The round robin was held on the Saturday where all five teams played two games each for positioning. Les Bonobos, led by Melie Legris dropped both their contests and hoped to rebound on Sunday where they fell to the Warriors. The Warriors won that game 3-0 thanks to a shutout performance by Nadia Varriano. The semi-finals featured Equipe Quebec versus Diablo de Montreal while the Warriors faced off against Dek Hockey Drummond. In the first period alone, le Diablo de Montreal captured the frame with a 4-2 score getting goals from four different players. Melissa Globensky netted the winner and Annie Leduc was able to feed two teammates. As for the other semi finals, Dek Hockey Drummond continued their progress in a 4-1 rout of the Warriors. As most would have thought of a Dek Hockey Drummond versus an Equipe Quebec finals due to their recent success, le Diablo de Montreal turned some heads over the week end. Amanda Lalande did a fine job assembling many young talented players and put up a good fight against a team that is still in their prime. The Quebec ball hockey association would like to thank all five captains (Melie Legris of Les Bonobos, Brittany Diabo of the Montreal Warriors, Lorraine Bourcier of Equipe Quebec, Amanda Lalande of Les Diablo de Montreal and finally Vanessa De Grandpre of Dek Hockey Drummond) for making it happen and putting together what was an exciting brand of hockey. On behalf of the Quebec ball hockey association, congratulations go out to Vanessa De Grandpre and the rest of Dek Hockey Drummond for capturing the 2015 provincial championship. Here is a summary of the elimination round held on the Sunday.Round 1 :4th place Warriors  3          5th place Les Bonobos  0Semi Finals :Diablo de Montréal  4                  Équipe Québec  2Dek Hockey Drummond  4          Montreal Warriors 1Finals:Dek Hockey Drummond  4          Diablo de Montréal  0

Ball Hockey is promoted through Quebecers in Jamaica

From September 8-12, 2014, Jean-Marie Larochelle and two of his friends went to Jamaica to organize a ball hockey camp for kids at Drapers All Age School and Port Antonio Primary School.

It is his passion for hockey in all its forms which led him to organize this project:” Last January, during my first trip to Jamaica, I spoke with people from the little town where I was living in and hockey quickly came on the topic. They told me I should come back to teach ball hockey at their elementary school. After a few months of preparation, we decided on a date and the project was launch”, he explains.

Jean-Marie and his friends organized morning sessions at Drapers All Age School, and afternoon ones at Port Antonio. The young participants were aged between 6-14 years old and the project targeted girls as much as boys. “People just loved it and we drew crowds sometimes. I just learned last week that the kids were still playing after I left. I gave all the hockey sticks and ball to the school so they could practice every day.”

Given the success of his camp, he plans on returning next January for the second phase of his project where he plans on organizing games between the two schools. He concludes saying: « It honestly was one of the best experiences in my life. To see all these kids learn a new sport and adapt it that quickly and easily was very impressive.” He also mentions that there weren’t any gyms in the schools and they had to play on a bad quality basketball course. Yet, the kids were doing very well. “Imagine the potential they would have on gym or real ball hockey floors. I guarantee you they would be excellent players!”Amongst others, he thanks Tony Iannitto and George Gortsos from the CBHA and ISBHF for donating hockey sticks and balls, Roy Larochelle Avocats inc. for the t-shirts, Sean Wilson from Coast to Coast Hockey shop and the people who participated to his Indiegogo fundraising. Dek Hockey de la Capitale wins the 2014 Provincials

This past weekend, the Women’s Provincial Championship took place at Sport Expo de Laval. Seven teams started their Saturday morning in top form giving a well earned effort, playing two games each and jousting for positioning in Sundays elimination rounds. After completing what was a high energy day, the two favourites took top seeds only to have Dek Hockey De La Capitale capture first place and a first round buy straight to the semi finals and Dek Drummond finishing second.

The quarter final match ups featured the Impact vs Pures Laines, Palm Bays vs Warriors and Hockey Expert vs the favoured Dek Hockey Drummond. One thing all three games had in common, was that all the winners were able to shut down their opponents allowing no goals what so ever. Marie-Eve Leduc went flawless between the pipes for the Impact in their 2-0 win over Pures Laines, Alex Garcia pushed away 11 balls for the Warriors in a convincing victory over Palm Bays and Martine Gousy denied everything from Hockey Expert allowing the Dek Hockey Drummond to advance.

These results brought four clubs closer to achieving their goals in the semi finals. Well rested for skipping the quarter finals round, the Dek Hockey de la Capitale immediately got to their opponents, the Impact, when Véronique Carrier opened the scoring just two minutes into the game. Alexandra Roy doubled the lead later in the same period and Stéphanie Savoie was able to add an early second period insurance marker to help her club book a spot to the finals.

As for the other contest, the end result was decided in a dramatic fashion. Both sides defended well all game long and got excellent goaltending until an eventual marker settled the score. Janie-Claude Arpin played the hero in this affair as she riffled the lone tally in overtime with a feed from Vanessa De Grandpré to beat Alex Garcia for a rare time.

Leaving only two teams in the tournament, the final stage was set to see who would capture their ultimate goal. The two favourites, Dek Hockey Drummond and DDLC advanced, but they still had to face tough challenges getting there. In what was expected to be a great final, both teams upped their intensity and never gave up until that final buzzer hit. Although Dek Drummond did score first with an early goal from Mélissa Roy, Dek Hockey de la Capitale immediately responded bagging three straight tallies in just the span of over four minutes. Veronique Carrier, Jessica Latouche and Priscilla Paquin all got the better of the opposing goalie for a 3-1 lead until Vanessa De Grandpré gave some life to her club reducing the gap by one. With a few second on the clock, DDLC shut the door with a fourth goal.

Each side had the fire power to generate plenty of offence as the top four goal scorers belonged to both clubs. Priscilla Paquin and Veronique Carrier each finished with seven points for Dek Hockey de la Capitale while Mélissa Roy and Janie-Claude Arpin did the same for Dek Drummond.

On behalf of the Quebec Ball Hockey Association, we would like to congratulate Dek Hockey de la Capitale for their 3rd Provincial title in 4 years, as well as Dek Drummond who was last year’s National Champions for both earning spots to this years Nationals held in Saskatoon. We also congratulate the Impact de St-Jérôme and the Montreal Warriors who will be representing our province in Saint John, NB for the Eastern Regionals.

Special thanks to Stéphane Côté (Hockey Expert), Christina Oum & Manpreet Kooner (Palm Bays), Lorraine Bourcier & Franceska Perron (Dek Capitale), Vanessa De Grandpré (Dek Drummond), Brittany Diabo (Warriors), Mélie Legris (Pures Laines), and  Jacqueline Montpetit (Impact) who managed their teams effectively and made this tournament possible.

Armored Saints enter 50th straight session

This year, the Armored Saints celebrate their 50th season in the ball hockey world after playing for so long under PTM ballhockey leagues today known as Hockeyballe.com. It was almost 20 years ago that Tony Cecere registered his ball hockey club still known today as the Armored Saints at a gym in the north part of the island. It was during the 1995-1995 season when the Armored Saints first began competing for PTM ballhockey leagues playing in the Open division, a division at the time allowing players without any restrictions to participate that included some big names teams such as the Montreal Storm, Oilers, Devils Knights, Bullets and many others. To their resume the long time Saints have participated in 7 Open, 4 B, 5 C+, 26 C, 6 D and 2 E divisions and to their credit were able to capture glory on two occasions dating back to the winter of 1998-1999 as Open division winners and summer of 1999 as C champions. Some players from the Armored Saints also had the privilege to play at the Eastern Regionals B 1999 in Brampton Ontario, C 2000 in Saint John New Brunswick and C 2001 in Montreal. Before starting off with PTM ball hockey leagues the Armored Saints began their journey in 1994 at Francois Perrault for 3 sessions, 5 in DDO and 1 in RDP. That’s plenty of ballhockey for any standards and from that point in time dating back to 1994 the Armored Saints have yet to take a season off. Captains like Tony Cecere are few now a days as it is very difficult to keep a team together especially for that long period of time. Even after having gone through neck surgery and being out for 2 sessions, Tony Cecere still managed to keep his troops intact to continue the legacy of his club.Happy 50th Anniversary Armored Saints

Simply too strong,Quebec dominates Eastern Regionals

From calibers B, C, D and women’s, Quebec captures 4 gold’s, 3 silvers and 1 bronze medal. Prior to the tournament it came to no surprise to expect nothing less as all teams and team captains did an excellent job preparing for months to put the best unit possible out there. The Generals representing the lone Quebec B team cruised to a fairly easy championship after building a quick comfortable lead versus the Mississauga Flash. The feature final did however occur in the C calibre where two familiar teams involving the Capitals and Royal Flush clashed in a battle that took only one direction by the second period where the Capitals where able to put a strangle hold on the match leading to another of many acolytes for the legendary club. In the newly added D division involving 4 Quebec teams, all made it to the semi final rounds where Nick.Cinquino and the Northstars held goal as the first ever D division champions at an Eastern Regional tournament. They had to do it versus a rival opponent in the Vipers where both clubs presently play in the difficult C Monday night division. As for the bronze medal game, it was somewhat expected that both the Bramabulls and the Justin Gladiators faced off against each other as both teams may have lacked some depth compared to the Vipers and the Northstars. That being mentioned the Bramabulls did claim third seed as bronze medal champions. And of course how can we forget the women’s final that also involved two Quebec teams between the Powerball and the Warriors only to have the Powerball come out on top as winners. All in all it was just another successful performance from all participants as many bring home plenty of hardware and wonderful memories for years to come.

Dekhockey de la Capitale wins women's provincial title

The Quebec Ball Hockey Association was hosting the 3rd edition of its Women’s Provincial Championship, last February 2-3 at Laval Centre Sport Expo.

Dekhockey de la Capitale won the qualifier, Dek Drummond came in second for spots at the Canadian Ball Hockey Association National Championships which will be held in Montreal in August, while the Warriors and Pure Laine settled for spots at Eastern Regional Championships, in Oakville from July 25-28.

Round Robin

Eight teams participated in the Provincial Championship, in what was a marathon of matches. All eight clubs were divided into 2 divisions and played three games each on the Saturday to determine who would advance in Sunday’s elimination rounds. Two teams captured the spot light as both Dekhockey de la Capitale and Dek Drummond won their respective groups in a dominating fashion with 3-0 records. That was enough to get a direct spot into the semi finals where they waited for their opponents.

Quarter Finals

After what was an intense quarter final battle between Les Coyotes de Lanaudière and Les Pure Laine, it was Anne-Julie Boucher’s second period goal that proved to be the game winner advancing Les Pure Laine to the next round.

The other match up saw the Warriors dictate the pace as a short handed marker from Kristine Daoust and a power play goal by Brittany Diabo’s second of the day was plenty for a 3-0 shutout win that also included a perfect performance from their net minder Sophie Boyer.

Semi Finals

This left four teams and two semi final matches where the round robin group winners prevailed. For the first and only time during the week end, Dekhockey de la Capitale conceded a goal that came off the blade of Amanda Lalande of the Pure Laine but managed to squeeze a tight 2-1 victory anyway with efforts by Geneviève Turgeon and Karine Demeule.

As for the other semi final match up, Dek Drummond needed two late goals by Mariève Provost and Julie Casavecchia to claim a 3-1 victory versus the Warriors.

 Bronze Final

As for the bronze medal game, the Pure Laine riffled a total of five tallies thanks to Marie-Hélène Desrosiers’ hat trick in a 5-3 victory versus the Warriors.

Gold Final

Finally, Dekhockey de la Capitale and Dek Drummond squared off in a much anticipated game. Both sides played perfect defence along with a solid goaltending. Caroline Ouellet, member of ice hockey Team Canada, ended the game by scoring the lone overtime goal for Dekhockey de la Capitale. Caroline Ouellet not only scored that deciding marker but was able to lead all players in points with two goals and eight assists in the round robin stages. Apart from her brilliant performance, Dekhockey de la Capitale can look back and feel great about how well they defended all weekend long by allowing only one goal and limiting their opponents to a minimal amount of shots on goal. Julie Fleury-Roy and Audrey Brouard were definitely a factor between the pipes recording four shutouts in five games.

Congratulations to all four clubs for representing Quebec at this summer’s Nationals in Montréal and Eastern Regionals in Oakville.
