Raging Rhinos excel right away in season debut

It was close while it lasted. The Spartans kept up in the first half of the game but couldn’t stop the bleeding when the Raging Rhinos stormed with an abundance of goals. In the span of only seven minutes, the Raging Rhinos averaged a goal per minute showing no mercy versus a stifled bunch. M-A Piche, as expected would be heavily involved in the onslaught. The lanky forward collected five goals including four in the second period alone. The Raging Rhinos also had G.Vouloumanos hit the net with three tallies while J.Zannis scored twice with the game’s opening and closing goal. It wasn’t a result the Spartans expected, but the skill set is there and the goals will surely come in due time.

Black Venom roll past Fat Cats

This may not have been the clearest night for a declaration of who the Fat Cats will be, at least for what happened in the first period. The Black Venom came out flying posting five goals and the game was already out of reach with plenty of hockey left over. B.Deslauriers and J.Vinet contributed in a big way combining for seven points in that period alone. Deslauriers completed his hat trick by the third period while J.Vinet went on to collect his fifth point of the game. The Fat Cats didn’t like the way things went for most of the night expect for maybe the last four minutes where they strung together three straight markers.

(4)RBK Knights vs Primetime(5) O.T

G.Skafidas OT winner rescues Primetime after bad third period

Primetime wasn’t too pleased with the way the third period ended but that all got forgotten when G.Skafidas buried the overtime winner. The RBK Knights never called it quits scoring two late shorthanded goals by A.Papazian and S.Burrell. And while that seemed more than enough for a spark, the journey only lasted so long. Both sides couldn’t have played a more even match trading the same amount of goals in every frame. Primetime did have the advantage by remaining discipline and spending no time in the penalty box unlike the RBK Knights who had to kill off three of four penalties. G.Chountalos was just added to his team and made a huge impact as the slick forward produced four points leaving a good impression.

(6)HC Inter vs Horsemen (7) O.T

Horsemen out-gun HC Inter in wild 7-6 win

If both teams enjoy scoring goals then they got exactly what they wanted on Wednesday night. It almost seemed like it was going to come down to who shot last in order to win the game. The Horsemen did have the final say courtesy of an overtime power play opportunity. Already with three points during the game, T.Mader ended the night just two minutes into the sudden death frame. B.Rubino was the only Horsemen to score twice. The steady defenseman notched his second on the power play as part of a three point effort. As for the HC Inter, only three players found the back of the net. M.Dalpe, D.Crivello and P-L Poirier each scored twice in the loss.

(1)United Arms vs Hellfish(4)

Power play helps Hellfish get the better of United Arms

Riding two power play goals, the Hellfish got the start they wanted in a 4-1 win over the United Arms. F.Benhamidi opened the scoring and struck once with the man advantage to help provide a two goal cushion after two frames. The Hellfish also got a clutch performance by M.Chartrand sparking three points and B.Verducci who denied all but one goal. The United Arms had their chances during the game especially with the man advantage but capitalized only once courtesy of N.Tonikian while unable to kill off only two penalties taken. It was a battle of the special teams that may have made the difference in this contest.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to George Chountalos of Primetime. In his first game with the club, the right handed sniper produced four out of a possible five points to help his team in a tight battle versus the RBK Knights.
