Thursday April 6(E1 & E2 Semi finals)
(5)Deadlast vs Werewolves (4) E1 Game 1
Deadlast prevail in wild semi final opener
In a game that was similar to their last regular season meeting, Deadlast and the Werewolves engaged in what was a battle till the very end. A two goal performance by E.Skafidas and a game winner-from J.Skafidas proved beneficial for Deadlast as they opened their best of three series with a close 5-4 victory. The Werewolves led early but fell behind giving up three straight goals. A.Zarzour scored twice to help keep the game close for the Werewolves, who just fell short in the end. The second game of the series will now force the Werewolves to not try and fall behind as they tend to play better with the lead. K.Miraldo needs to figure out how to jump start his club and make it very difficult for the younger side to generate their scoring chances.
(7)P.E.Y.O vs Bramabulls(6) E1 Game 1
Sour third period leads to ugly finish for Bramabulls
The mood turned sour for the Bramabulls as they slowly witnessed their third period lead evaporate. This is the second time both sides meet in only one week and the P.E.Y.O seem to have something up their sleeve when trailing after two periods. In this case, J.Courteau and K.Fiore clicked as both players netted a pair each in the span of about seven minutes. The Bramabulls attempted their late comeback when T.Karasek posted his second of the night leaving only 30 seconds on the clock. By then, the damage had already been done. In order for the Bramabulls to bounce back into the series, they need to try and put their grief behind them knowing that they collapsed twice in the third period to the very same team.
(6)French Connection vs Underdogs(2) E2 Game 1
French Connection power play scores three goals to jump start series
Give them time and space and they will hurt you. The Underdogs realized this when the French Connection capitalized three time with their five man unit to take a 1-0 series lead. Two of those power play goals came in the first period. But that didn’t discourage the Underdogs from-fighting back. M.Habib and E.Salhany each scored in the second period to level the game at two goals apiece. Despite the bad sequence, the French Connection regained their lead and momentum late in the frame thanks to P.Hargreaves’s second of the contest. From-there, the French Connection went on a complete take over netting three unanswered tallies. J.Noonan and J.Farrese provided three helpers each and F.Gaudet-Peloquin stopped 20 of 22 shots to earn the win in net.
(5)UHC vs Street Ballers(4) E2 Game 1
Three goal third period deflates Street Ballers
Down by two goals in the third period, the UHC looked for solutions to turn the tide. The man power that they have wasn’t too much of a shock that the comeback transpired. But for the Street Ballers, this end to a good start was simply unacceptable, especially after playing two very solid periods. The UHC just took it a shift at a time and eventually got there with three goals in the span of only three minutes. The effort was led by C.Zafiropoulos, MCristiano and S.DelGadio. Prior to the comeback, the UHC got a pair of first period tallies by J-F Aumais to keep the game reasonable. The Street Ballers had mounted a 4-2 first period lead with the help of a couple of power play goals and a two goal performance by G.Couture. The hill might seem high to climb but the Street Ballers know they aren’t out of it yet. Lately, they have been playing really good hockey which will force the UHC o take tem very serious in their next meeting.
The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Kris Fiore of P.E.Y.O. The corner stone defenseman was part of a big comeback by providing two key goals to finish his night with three points over the Bramabulls.
