Sunday April 9(Round 1, playoffs)
(8)Shockers vs Hit List(2)
Shockers earn easy win to advance
In a battle of two teams seeking to advance, the Shockers rolled to an easy 8-2 win over the Hit List. T.Salberg did the heavy lifting for the Shockers bagging three goals while setting up two teammates. Saqlberg wasn’t only player to get involved offensively for the young squad. M.Blackman and J.Blackman buried a pair each while J.Collins got the other tally. The Hit List normally score much more than two goals but found themselves struggling in this game. S.Trudel and Y.Laforest notched first period markers for the Hit List, who went on a dry spell the rest of the way. D.Bourque collected the win after facing 28 shots.
(9)Brew Crew vs Team Sportek(0)
Brew Crew too much for Team Sportek in blow out win
M.Rheaume, C.Palermo and P.Karigiannis each had two goals and C.Muccino earned a 22 save shutout to take down Team Sportek on Sunday night. The Brew Crew simply used their depth and years of experience to cruise by the first year club. Despite the lopsided score, Team Sportek kept it close for half the game before getting discouraged by the third period where they gave up five unanswered goals. The win brings the Brew Crew a step closer to where they want to be which is to try and capture the E Sunday championship. For them, anything less just won’t cut it.
(6)Butchers vs Fatal Demons(5)
Fatal Demons fall short again in dramatic fashion
Maybe it just wasn’t meant to be for the Fatal Demons who keep dropping games by only one goal. In tonight’s case, T.Karasek summed it up by breaking a late 5-5 tie to send the Butchers into the next round. The win came with the help of J.Mandracchia and A.Latella as both players struck twice while G.Zapatelli was slightly better over his counterpart S.Sauk between the pipes. The Fatal Demons had a solid sequence posting three straight goals before the end of the second period. But it was by the third where things fell apart. Normally, the veteran side are able to shut down their opponents on most night but couldn’t get it done in this case.
The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Thomas Karasek of the Butchers. The lanky forward collected his third point by breaking a crucial 5-5 tie late in the game.
With this opening round out of the way, four teams are now left over to see who will head to the final. The semi final match ups are as follows:
(1)Red Nose vs Butchers (4) Can the Butchers contain the many game breakers that Red Nose have ? If so, they certainly have some key components up front that can score and the intensity to match any opponent.
(2)Brew Crew vs Shockers(3) It won’t get any better than this series. Each side have areas that they will rely on. The Shockers are young fast and can score at will. As for the Brew Crew, they are a team that excels at playing a disciple coverage which will force the Shockers to find ways and generate chances.
