Thursday August 24(E1 & E2 Semi finals)

(1)Spartans vs SBS Trashers(4) E2 Game 2

SBS Trashers ready to look ahead with series sweep of Spartans

The SBS Trashers took nothing for granted on Thursday night .Four different players found the back of the net and the SBS Trashers finished with two power play goals to end a two game series sweep. D.Brunetti drew first blood with the man advantage netting a lone first period marker. F.Gentile and J.Guerriero increased the lead by three before K.Dicera finally got to R.Pampena, who pushed away close to 20 shots. After setting up the first goal of the night, E.Panzera capped off the series riffling his clubs second power play goal. The Spartans knew they had a difficult road ahead of them but managed a good fight till the very end.

(2)Street Ballers vs Carnage(3) E2 Game 2

T.Xanthoudakis’s third period power play goal holds up, Carnage punch ticket to final

It wasn’t going to come easy but Carnage still managed to prevail despite last week’s hero missing-from action. It just goes to show that this club doesn’t depend on anyone in particular. Despite scoring only three goals, Carnage limited the Street Ballers to only three tallies in two games. B.Madonis stopped 24 of 26 shots collecting a second straight playoff win. Carnage only took their lead as of the 11:30 minute mark of the second period when S.Longo snapped a 1-1 tie. Then, it was T.Xanthoudakis’s turn to strike with a power play goal that ultimately held for the winner. The Street Ballers pulled within one shortly after courtesy of A.Jalbert’s second of the contest but it just wasn’t enough.

(3)Raging Rhinos vs Bramabulls(6) E1 Game 2

Bramabulls overcome bad start to take series vs Rhinos

Overcoming a slow start isn’t the easiest thing to do. However, the Bramabulls believed in themselves and just felt it was a question of time before taking over the match. The momentum started to swing as of the six minute mark of the second period where C.Fragkiudakis narrowed the gap by one. From-there, matters only got worst for the Raging Rhinos giving up two more tallies before the end of the frame. Unable to stop the bleeding, D.Verta added more gas to the fire by bagging two unanswered goals to cap off what was a hard earned comeback. Apart-from their good start thanks to a pair of tallies by E.Leblanc-Brady, the Raging Rhinos didn’t have much going on the rest of the way.

(7)Deadlast vs Dragons(2) E1 Game 2

Dragons fail to learn lesson in second straight loss

After dropping three quick goals only a week ago, the Dragons didn’t address the issue in this must win contest. Deadlast hammered away and built another 3-0 lead just over the nine minute mark of the first period. Although the time was there for a comeback, many of the Dragons players knew that they just didn’t have it in this series. Clearly, Deadlast was ready to play and proved that they were the better of the two sides. J.Pantelis, Y.Gazura and C.Siconolfi each scored twice and J.Sanoudakis was sharp allowing only two goals on 23 shots.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Bruno Sansotta of the Bramabulls. In their comeback effort versus the Raging Rhinos, B.Sansotta set up two teammates while netting the winner with the man advantage.

The E1 & E2 finals will take place on Thursday August 31.The match ups are as follows:

E1 Final :

(2)Bramabulls vs Deadlast(4) This is one series that should go the distance. Both sides have every area covered which will come down to all the little details necessary between winning and losing.

E2 Final :

(1)SBS Trashers vs Carnage(2) While the offensive punch does favour the SBS Trashers, will it be good enough against a well-rounded stingy defense. Carnage won’t score much but have the potential to keep their opponent in check.

Thursday August 17 (E1 & E2 Semi finals)

(6)Bramabulls vs Raging Rhinos(4) E1 Game 1

Bulls take control of series with close win over Rhinos

The Bramabulls were all smiles on Thursday night. And why not considering how well they played, especially in the second period where they did most of their scoring .M.DiSalvio ceased the moment by notching a huge power play goal to put his team up 5-2.No one needed to be the hero on this night with six different players finding the back of the net. The Raging Rhinos did have the better start when S.Labrecque scored his first of two but that only lasted so long. With this contest out of the way, the Raging Rhinos have some serious thinking to do on how to bounce back and force a third and deciding game.

(3)Dragons vs Deadlast(5) E1 Game 1

Getting it done when it counts

It didn’t matter that it was only a week ago that the Dragons handed Deadlast a pair of losses in two hours. What does matter is how you restore confidence heading into a more important situation. Deadlast showed lots of character and wasted no time putting the Dragons off guard. After eleven minutes into the first period, J.Skafidas, A.Jalilvand and C.Siconolfi each scored for a commanding 3-0 lead. Still, the time was there for the Dragons but the mountain proved too high to climb. It wasn’t until the 9:30 minute mark of the second period when the Dragons finally got on board. G.Cardillo cracked the barrier on the power play to get his club’s confidence going. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t a good night for J.DeStefano and the rest of his crew. The question now becomes can the veteran side overcome this adversity.

(8)SBS Trashers vs Spartans(1) E2 Game 1

Close while it lasted

The Spartans can’t say that they didn’t give it all they’ve got in their difficult battle with the SBS Trashers on Thursday night. For half the game, this was anywhere close-form being a lopsided affair. The only time the SBS Trashers sighed some relief was when J.Guerriero used a shorthand tally that provided a two goal cushion. From-there the snow ball effect was in motion. M.Panarello and G.Bampos each scored third period goals for their second of the night. R.Pampena had a very good outing stopping 17 of 18 shots but wasn’t pleased when he gave up a shorthanded tally courtesy of J.Langlais. Despite the loss, the Spartans will give it another try in game two and hope to keep the game very close.

(3)Carnage vs Street Ballers(1) E2 Game 1

C.Kalogeropoulos scores twice to lead Carnage in game one

Both teams looked pretty even to start as they felt one another out in a low scoring first period. After playing to a 1-1 tie for a very long stretch, C.Kalogeropoulos couldn’t have scored at a better time. The second period was winding down to its final second when the forward scored just in time for a 2-1 lead. From-there, Carnage rolled their three lines making sure that the Street Ballers didn’t get any room to level the match. And with the help of B.Madonis, who denied 24 of 25 shots, and the late insurance marker set forth by the very same Kalogeropoulos, Carnage was glad to earn a 3-1 win and a 1-0 series lead. The Street Ballers may not like the final result but know that they can bounce back and even the series if they play hard like they did tonight.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Chris Kalogeropoulos of Carnage. In what was a low scoring battle with the Street Ballers, C.Kalogeropoulos notched two big goals en route to a 3-1 win.
