(9)Slayers vs Fatal Demons (7) S.O
Slayers battle back in shootout win
It took a while, but the score was finally settled between the Slayers and Fatal Demons on Sunday night. After the Slayers scored three times in the third period to even the score, an overtime period still couldn't settle the draw. On to the shootout it was, and in only their first two attempts, the Slayers got the better of the Fatal Demons. A.Gentile had come off a hat trick before netting his fourth during the breakaways. The second contender was also the right choice as J.Desmarais secured the win after collecting six points. The Fatal Demons will take some positives- from this result heading into the playoffs. It's never a bad thing to go the distance against a heavy front runner like the Slayers. The Fatal Demons showed that they can compete by trading plenty of goals that saw Marco Diaco riffle a hat trick.
(7)Shockers vs Icons (10)
Icons outlast Shockers in wild high scoring affair
J.Mckenzie had one of his better games, and the Icons needed all of his production. The power forward thrived all night, especially in the third when it mattered the most. Both sides played to a 6-6 tie after two frames before the Icons outlasted the Shockers by the final fifteen minutes of play. J.Mckenzie scored twice and added an assist in that period alone to cap off an impressive five goals and one assist performance. Similar to what Mckenzie achieved in this match, the Shockers had one of their top guns do almost the same. T.Salberg gave his club every chance possible to take the contest as the sharp shooter hit the target four times while setting up two teammates.
The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Josh Desmarais of the Slayers. Apart-from one goal in a high scoring affair, J.Desmarais was involved in every play that included a shootout marker versus the Fatal Demons.
The D Sunday division concluded its regular season. The top three seeds will get an automatic pass to the semi finals. The first round will feature the fourth seed taking on the fifth seed for the fourth and final spot. The breakdown is as follows:
(1)Slayers BYE
(2)Icons BYE
(3)Shockers BYE
(4)Lynx vs Fatal Demons(5) There is no doubt that both these teams know how to play the game. However, the Lynx do have one big advantage, and that is their speed. It will be up to the Fatal Demons to try and figure out how to slow down the Lynx and patiently wait for their chances.
