Snipers and Diabetoz Angels powered by their top guns

As much as  hockey game is relied on an overall team effort, its always a bonus when you can depend on some of your main players to make a difference. In the Snipers 4-3 opening win versus the Diabebtoz Angels, its safe to say that J.Hassan was the catalyst behind the victory. The forward did most of the work participating in all four goals that included a hat trick. The Snipers needed a late push to grab the win after finding themselves trailing 3-2 with less than two minutes remaining. Ali Khanafer tied things up, and J.Hassan put his club over the top to close out a nail biter. Now, its safe to say that the Diabetoz Angels look to their net minder as a key component for success. A.Ekonomakis has that ability to be dominant when he is on top of his game. That’s what high end goaltenders do, they rebound despite having a decent outing. The Snipers may be used to scoring since that’s never an area of concern, but things didn’t quite turn out as expected in the second encounter. They came to realise that they needed to be lucky rather than trying to beat him clean. After attempting over 30 shots, the Snipers were unable to figure him out, and ultimately dropped a 1-0 decision. All it took was for J.Zervakos to score his clubs lone goal in order to capture the win.

Assadi Consulting inc have no answers for the Classics

No matter how you want to analysis this, the Assadi Consulting inc cant match with the Classics right now. There is nothing that they can seem to do on how to avoid getting hammered every time they meet. The Classics scored a total of 15 goals in both games, and got contributions-from pretty much everyone despite having the two headed monsters in C.Gingras and P.Karvouriaris. M.Mavroudis and M.Destounis are often overlooked, but can be just as deadly at times as both players combined for five goals seven assists. Its difficult to play against players that do damage game in and game out. The Assadi Consulting inc know this, but have yet to figure out a way on how to slow them down. They did have a way better outing in the second encounter. M.Tvaronas made the score 3-2 giving the Assadi Consulting inc a slight 3-2 lead heading into the final frame. Finally, they put together a solid period. The problem was that it only lasted for one frame as the Classics took over running up the score on five unanswered goals. P.Karvouriaris as expected was there to put things in motion by striking twice while M.Destounis did the same to help put the game out of reach.

Wild action has Branditscan and RCGT Knights trade wins

Without a doubt, the RCGT Knights best player of the first contest was J.Prevost. The young talent produced in a big way rattling off three out of his clubs five goals to help defeat the Branditscan. The two sides were neck in neck for most of the match until J.Prevost posted his hat trick for a two goal cushion which was more than enough to guarantee the win. After coming off what was a regular type of hockey game, the second encounter appeared more like two teams playing pond hockey on a hot summer night. The first period saw plenty of defensive breakdowns along with soft goals. The Branditscan led a couple of times by at least two tallies but kept getting answered by the RCGT Knights, who refused to go away. Perhaps the turning point occurred late in the frame when K.Hopkins and D.Dillinger each scored to provide a 7-4 lead. K.Hopkins would go on to collect a hat trick in the final frame trading a goal with J.Prevost, who was an absolute force for the RCGT Knights. It wasn’t your standard type of night, but both sides got something out of it by exchanging wins.

Degenerates salvage their night on a pair of late surges

Its just unacceptable to keep finding yourself behind the eight ball when you make it a point to play a sound defensive style. The Degenerates will not run you down or play a loaded ball possession game. There plan is simple, defend well and wait for your chances to come. The problem was that they failed to keep the Country Club in check for two straight games that saw them taken advantage of in the first periods. Twice they were stuck having to play from-behind. Normally, it’s the younger teams that play better in the final stretch since they have the endurance and legs to do so. In both games however, the Degenerates challenged that philosophy by being the better team on two strong finishes that forced shootouts. In the first encounter, A.Alfonso scored with forty seconds left while in the second match, C.Stamadianos did the exact thing with about the same amount of time left over to forcing a second breakaway competition. The only difference in the two end results was that the Degenerates took the first encounter due to a pair of goals by A.Alfonso and M.Pinheiro. The second match ended in a stalemate with the two teams trading a pair of goals each. M.Dupuis just played his eight period of hockey since he played earlier in the higher division. That being said, it didn’t look like fatigue was much of an issue as the net minder battled throughout the grind. F.Proulx had a solid first encounter netting two goals while C.Gosselin made a big difference in the second contest collecting a hat trick for the Country Club.

Brodie Boys exposing the Dragons defense

The Dragons will even tell you that their defensive coverage was torn apart by the Brodie Boys. Giving up that many goals shouldn’t be happening if you plan to play a certain way. It appeared as though the Dragons attempted to play a run and gun style against a team that can take advantage of you. The Brodie Boys have plenty of speed, talent and the body count to overwhelm you. It showed right away -from the drop of the ball as they ran up the score on three quick goals. Although the Dragons did battle back early in the second frame thanks to a pair of quick tallies by D.Lombardi, the Brodie Boys just took over -from there on adding five more en route to a convincing win. There was no question that the Dragons tweaked their game in the second match as they wanted nothing less than to go empty handed. Still, they trailed 3-2 after one, but managed to level when G.DeMarinis scored early in the frame. The Brodie Boys would later take advantage of a power play opportunity courtesy of M.Moshopoulos only to get answered again by A.Ponzo levelling the game with just over two minutes to go. With things all evened up fairly late in the contest, both sides understood that the next tally would likely decide the outcome. And rather than tempting their fate in the shootout, P.Stroubakis avoided the extra time by bagging a huge marker that would ultimately decide the game. The Brodie Boys just defeated a team twice in regulation time-from the top division banking six gravy points to the standings.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to A.Ekonomakis of the Diabetoz Angels. The net minder left the Snipers scratching their heads in the second game as they were unable to solve him once after attempting a bunch of shots.
