Generals use third period outburst to flatten Dirty Scrubs
(1)Dirty Scrubs vs Generals(8)
If there was one time during the regular season that the Generals may have dropped a game, tonight was it. Normally your playing with fire when having to rotate only one single player-from your bench. In normal circumstances, fatigue tends to catch up to you as the game goes on. The Generals didn’t have that explosive outburst in the first two frames, but managed to build a 3-1 lead heading into the final period. You would have to assume by then that the Dirty Scrubs were going to give the Generals a run for their money. Still, it didn’t matter. Rather than playing on their heels, the Generals made the Dirty Scrubs look like the side that had the shorter bench. Five out of their eight goals came in the final stretch in the span of only seven minutes. But perhaps this wasn’t really an issue of a team that should be tired rather than a side that will burn you on counter attacks. The Dirty Scrubs knew they had to go for it. Unfortunately some broken plays turned into some deadly counter attacks where the Generals usually don’t miss. J.Brunet was a menace bagging four goals while M.Larin and R.Morne collected five points each.
United Masters use strong third period finish to down Sonic
(4)Sonic vs United Masters(6)
So many times the United Masters had chances to increase their lead. Instead, Sonic resisted, and kept battling back to keeping this contest extremely close. At one point they found themselves ahead for the first time during the match when T.Xanthoudakis scored early in the third period. Despite falling back however, the United Masters worked their way back into the game and eventually evened the score thanks to their captain G.Missakian. That tally came with about half a period remaining. Up until that point, the United Masters felt that they could have gone for the kill for how much pressure they were putting on. B.Madonis was keeping Sonic in the game, but could only take so much as the net minder kept making brilliant saves. Eventually, a grade A chance finally got to Madonis when D.Charbonneau riffled a rocket to beat him low. It was a goal that couldn’t have come at a better time for the United Masters, who had all but a minute to kill off and secure the win.
The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Jeremi Brunet of the Generals. Playing practically the whole game-from his back end, the pillar on defence stole the show collecting five points that included four goals.
The Masters 35+ division regular season came to an end on Friday night. All four teams will be battling it out in the semi final round. The match ups are as follows:
(1)Generals vs Sonic(4) Barring a miracle, the Generals are going through. There is just no chance that the Generals will drop two games after a dominant regular season.
(2)United Masters vs Dirty Scrubs(3) This will be a nice hard fought series between two teams that are pretty much evenly matched. Expect a chess match as both sides will make sure to defend well while waiting for their chances to occur. This has the potential to go the distance or at very least the games will be decided by a narrow margin. There in no clear cut favourite.
