Classics and Brodie Boys go the distance twice to settle for a pair of draws

It perhaps wasn’t too much of a surprise that the Classics and the Brodie Boys went the distance in both games on Monday night. The Brodie Boys may have been a little more undermanned, but the Classics were without one of their big guns P.Karvouriaris. Even though the Brodie Boys were a little short, they still had the stamina and pace that would be expected -from a younger side. The game plan wasn’t too hard, follow your man, pay special attention to C.Gingras ,and make the best of your chances. They nearly checked every box except for the penalty kill. The Classics scored both their goals with a man up by T.Langiano and T.Karvouriaris. With neither side getting it done in regulation, the shootout didn’t really solve anything either as both sides traded a goal each. The second match had a different storyline despite it ending in a draw as well. It looked like the Brodie Boys were going to run down the Classics due to their strong start and resilient pace. At one point, they led 6-2 and looked like they could do no wrong. When a skilled and quicker team has that kind of an advantage, you almost have no more excuses for let downs. That being said, the Brodie Boys couldn’t complete the assignment by enabling the Classics to battle back and eventually even the score. You knew that there was going t be a push back by the Classics. And since that was the case, it was up to the Brodie Boys to address it as the game went on. Unfortunately, they had a miserable final frame to their night as they enabled four unanswered goals to force another shootout. During that time, neither side got an edge, and settled for a second straight tie.

Snipers take control in second encounter after drawing even with Branditscan

If not for a wicked slap shot by A.Olewinsky in the dying seconds of the first encounter, the Branditscan would have likely gone empty handed in their games with the Snipers. Instead, the two sides took a point each in the shootout after both net minders denied all three attempts. The Snipers didn’t waste time in the next game owning the opening frame on three unanswered goals J.Hassan got the ball rolling converting twice followed with B.Cabral’s beautiful slap shot tally that came on the power play. Now that the Snipers built a nice 3-0 lead, it was up to the Branditscan to start taking some risks. The problem was that they took a four minute penalty which almost inevitably enabled the Sniper to score. Ali Khanafer eventually took advantage of the power play making the score 4-0. With less than half a period remaining, this contest looked to have been easily decided. Still, the Branditscan stuck with it, and actually narrowed the gap by two leaving all but a single minute left over. Unable to get that much needed goal, J.Hassan capped off the night on a wrap around empty net marker to complete his hat trick.

Bad streak finally comes to an end for the United Arms

It may not have mattered in the grand scheme of things, but the United Arms have something to cheer about on Monday night. The winless side finally got the monkey off their back and it couldn’t have come at a better time. The recipe to ending a winless streak is to give yourself a chance by keeping the games close. The United Arms did just that in the first encounter trading a goal apiece while patiently waiting for a good opportunity to occur. With both M.Tzouvadakis and M.Dupuis guarding the cage, both sides had a difficult time getting the next tally. This contest needed a shootout for something to give. And what better opportunity for the United Arms to try and squeeze out a win. S.Jankouzian and K.Kavan used a pair of nifty moves to get the better of M.Dupuis while M.Tzouvadakis was nearly perfect allowing only F.Proulx to get the better of him. There was no question that the Country Club weren’t pleased with the end result. It showed almost immediately in the ensuing match where they stormed out of the gate on three goals in eight minutes. C.Gosselin buried a pair, and the Country club felt good about their chances after carrying a 3-1 lead heading into the final stanza. C.Payette widened the gap on the power play, but K.Kavan responded almost immediately to keep the United Arms within ranch. Despite enough time left over, the Country Club closed out the gaps and the lanes to hold on to the victory.

Degenerates slowly overcome poor start versus Assadi Consulting inc

The expression its not how you start but how you finish that matters played out for the Degenerates versus the Assadi Consulting inc. Having to overcome a 4-0 deficit is discouraging, but the Degenerates felt they had something brewing heading into the second frame trailing by three. It wasn’t that they were overly dominated . The Assadi Consulting inc had a very short bench and did the smart thing by getting the better start. Knowing this, the Degenerates went about their business in search of that next goal. Once P.Paikopoulos narrowed the gap by two, the bench felt confident that a comeback was in the making. It took only a short span of forty seconds for M.Pinheiro and O.Valiquette to strike and even the score. Now that this thing was knotted at four goals a piece, the two sides played extra cautious wanting nothing less than to make a mistake. For the large part, it appeared to be the case expect for the very last play of the game where N.Kokovidis beat the buzzer by a split second. Surely, it felt like a devastating defeat, but the Degenerates accomplished something by battling back . The mind set-from that point on was to carry good habits in the second encounter. This time, they kept the game honest with neither side having a real advantage. M.Pinheiro did provide the lead late in the first period for the Degenerates which positioned themselves for a better finish versus a tired opponent. However, a couple of penalties didn’t help their cause. After killing off the first one, N.Kokovidis made sure to bury his chance in the Assadi Consulting inc’s second power play opportunity on his patented shot-from the point. Now that the game was all tied up, only an eventual shootout stood in the way. After sending three highly skilled players to try and score, the two sides had to settle for a draw after exchanging a goal each.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Tommy Ferreira of the Brodie Boys. Collecting a bunch of points against the Classics isn’t the easiest thing to do unless you’re a highly skilled player with a burst of speed to your game. T.Ferreira showed off his capabilities once more and with flying colors as he was able to collect a total of seven points in two games along with a shootout goal.
