Fatal Demons blow late lead, lose to Snipers in overtime

(4)Fatal Demons vs Snipers(5) O.T

In a thrilling back and forth affair, it was the Snipers who pulled out the overtime win over the Fatal Demons. A missed opportunity saw this contest swing in favour of the Snipers. Unable to score on a four minute power play, the Fatal Demons have only themselves to blame. The Snipers managed to kill it off, and A.Sayed had just jumped out of the penalty box before finding himself sprawling down the wing to slip the ball right under R.Ranieri’s pad. That goal tied the game at four goals apiece late in the game. Then in overtime, it was Ahmad Khanafer using a very simple but effective play to end the game. Ahmad Khanafer simply shot the ball toward the net using a screen in front of him to beat the Fatal Demons net minder unexpectedly. The momentum went back and for the entire time, with several lead changes and multiple scoring chances. If both these teams play like this every time they meet, expect it to be close and go the distance. Tonight, the Snipers were the ones to prevail after a hard fought battle. Five different players took turns finding the back of the net with M.Monteschio collecting two helpers, who controlled a good portion of the play.

Brew Crew win in typical fashion over Sonic

(4)Brew Crew vs Sonic(2)

Its only their second game so for, and nothing has changed for the Brew Crew. C.Muccino starts the game late, they eventually grab their lead, and limit the opposition to only a pair of goals or less. The offense kicked in the second period on goals by the captain C.Palermo and B.Sansotta. Sonic would appear to be in trouble despite the small deficit having to kill a power play early in the third period, but its was G.Gammieri scoring instead to even the score. Unfortunately, they barely held on to a spike in their momentum when J.DeSua struck only seconds later to put the Brew Crew back in front. The game was still no where close to being decided. However, once D.Catalano doubled the lead, the Brew Crew felt confident about their chances despite plenty of time left over. Sonic couldn’t get into the lanes enough times in order to penetrate the defense, and more importantly C.Muccino , who was there to deny them every time. No one needed to be a hero as they always rely on each other to get the job done. While four different players scored, C.Magri did have his hand in it setting up three teammates.

Van Doos HC keep gelling in thumping of Horsemen

(5)Van Doos HC vs Horsemen(1)

The Van Doos HC did everything that a hockey team needs to do in order to get the right result in the end. They limited their mistakes, they caused turn overs and when the time was right, they made sure to bury their chances. Adding to all that, its always nice to have a solid goaltender as your last line of defense. He may not have been overly busy, but J.Liopoulos was exceptional when the chances occurred. By being focused and alert, the Horsemen never had the chance to bounce back into this game due to the goaltending. So while they got snake bitten a few times, the Van Doos HC would slowly build their lead despite M.Vinicguerra doing a solid job in net for the Horsemen. Sometimes, the little details just don’t go your way. The Horsemen struggled at times and were responsible for some costly blunders. There only bright moment came in the third period when the game was already out of reach. M.Kardum finally solved J.Liopoulos, who must have been thinking shutout by then. Prior to that goal, the Van Doos HC rattled off three straight tallies by N.Tsatsaronis, James Liopoulos and N.Zatharopoulos. In the end, the better team hands down won on this particular night.

L-T Dube provides late winner for RCGT Knights close win over the Flying Squirrels

(5)RCGT Knights vs Flying Squirrels(4)

A late minute goal by L-T Dube proved to be the difference as the RCGT Knights edged the Flying Squirrels 5-4. The goals came early and late, but it was the final tally with only a minute and change left over that gave the RCGT Knights the win in what was an entertaining see-saw battle that had several lead changes throughout the game. L-T Dube was clutch scoring twice while the legendary B.Panarello used two heat seekers finding its way behind the net. The Flying Squirrels led twice before having to play some catch up toward the end of the second period. Despite tying the game on two occasions, they couldn’t pull ahead. Playing with players that you aren’t familiar with takes time for chemistry to build. The RCGT Knights have a mix of young talent along with some veteran leadership. Even though its only one game, the potential is there for a strong development for the RCGT Knights. Time will tell as they’ll hope to build off this good moment.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Jonathan Liopoulos of the Van Doos HC. On a few key occasions, the goaltender delivered each and every time to help enable his team to build a nice sufficient lead.
