Classics stunned in first season loss to Brodie Boys

Finally, a good thing came to an end for the Classics dropping their first in fourteen games. In the grand scheme of things it doesn’t really matter as they’ll be finishing on top of the division. However, it does say something to the rest of the division that anything is possible. The Brodie Boys were the first to prove that they can defeat anyone on any given night. Although they dropped the first encounter in a relatively close game, the second match had a different meaning to it. You always want to try and keep the game close when challenging a lethal opponent like the Classics . As long as the game remained within a reasonable margin, the Brodie Boys felt confident about their chances. They made it a point to win as many one on one battles to gain ball possession wile making sure to come back and block as many lanes as possible. With the defense standing firm blocking shots, and B.Makris standing on his head , the Brodie Boys got the offense required in order to edge out the Classics. Two of their four goals came with the man advantage courtesy of H.Angelov and D.Koutavas. On normal circumstances, the Classics seem to have this knack of being the better threat during the special teams. Usually C.Gingras or P.Karvouriaris deflate their opposition on shorthanded goals, but not on this night as the Brodie Boys made sure to limit their mistakes in order to squeeze out a hard earned victory.

Country Club unable to hold its leads vs ETNA

The Country Club got off to a fast start during the first game, but ultimately allowed four unanswered goals as ETNA earned a 4-2 win. This isn’t the first time the Country Cub squandered their leads. At least when it happened earlier in the season, they can argue that they were undermanned. However, that wasn’t the case in tonight’s defeat due to their deeper bench compared to ETNA. The turning point can be argued when M.Alfieri capitalised with the man advantage to put ETNA in front for the first time during the match. It may have been a slight lead, but ETNA adapted their game plan making sure that they didn’t give much for the Country Club to respond. M.Stoico turned away enough scoring chances to earn the win in net. As expected, the second game was going to be close as well. With both teams visiting the penalty box on a few occasions, the special teams would come into play. This was one area that ETNA excelled in scoring two out of their thee goals on the power play. J.Alfieri and A.Franceschini buried their chance with a man up, and M.Alfieri was clutch again bagging the game winning goal. And for a second straight game, M.Stoico was solid allowing only two tallies on 22 shots.

M.St-Laurent backstops Snipers to shutout victory, Degenerates respond to split mini series

There was no question both teams really wanted to win knowing the impact it has on the standings . It wasn’t really about making the playoffs since that’s not an issue, but more so for pride of being the division leaders. The Degenerates would have liked a deeper roster going up against a younger and faster team. Since they didn’t quite have all their elements, a spilt would have been fine, at least for them anyway. The Snipers on the other hand wanted to grab both wins, and why not after taking a very close 1-0 victory to jump start their night. J.Hassan scored their lone goal on the power play, and M.St-Laurent shut the door allowing no one to beat him.  Now that the first encounter was decided, the Degenerates knew they had to add more mustard in their play if they planned on splitting the night. Much of the second game resembled nothing like the first one. This time, both teams opened it up a lot more which led to more chances as the goals kept piling on. The contest went back and forth until a big power play marker by S.Marricco put the Degenerates in front 4-3.That tally proved to be huge since it led to a pair of insurance markers by A.Desrosiers and Marricco’s hat trick. Defeating the Snipers is a very difficult task in this division. You almost need a near sound game in order to come out on top. Since they never let up, its nearly impossible to run up the score against them. The Degenerates knew this, and remained patient waiting for their chances to occur while playing a committed defensive game. C.Stavriadis was just as good as his counter part M.St-Laurent as both net minders enabled their side to come out on top.

Dragons make ground in standings after banking key points vs Assadi Consulting inc

The Assadi Consulting inc were twenty second away-from going empty handed against a team that they cant afford to give up points against. J.Rochon riffled his second late in the first game, and the Assadi Consulting inc were able to force a shootout. Unfortunately, they fell on the short end unable to solve P.Delli Colli on three attempts. Instead, J.Mandracchia didn’t miss after scoring the Dragons two out of three goals during the game. Losing one point is better than three, but the real issue was how the Assadi Consulting inc responded in the ensuing game. You would have to expect a hungry team ready to come out with the contest having enough meaning to it. Rather than it being close, the opposite took place with the Dragons trouncing their opponent. In the first eight minutes alone , the game was already decided with the Dragons riding a 5-0 lead. J.Mandracchia and M.Detorre went on to complete hat tricks, A.Mirolla collected four points and the Dragons gained some key points to the standings.

RCGT Knights stroll to a pair of wins over the Mighty Pooches

The RCGT Knights were able to stay in first gear and collected a pair of convincing wins over the Mighty Pooches. They dominated possession as expected, and used two power play goals in the first game to help build a 3-0 lead. J.Prevost and J.Senay each scored with the man advantage as both players went on to add another sharing two goals apiece. In their few shot attempts, the Mighty Pooches couldn’t get to T.Sauk. At the very least, when things don’t quite go well, you look for something that can shed light to your club. In the case of the Mighty Pooches, it was about trying to get at least one before the night ended. That moment did finally occur late in the first period of the second game when they found themselves on the power play. O.Fortin was able to complete a play that stemmed-from J.Tata to beat T.Sauk for a rare time. Still, the RCGT Knights remained in control up 3-1 despite allowing that goal. J.DeSua went on to widen the margin right before M.Guarnieri posted his second to finish off the scoring. A.Lacroix also cashed in twice with the help of J.Prevost, who collected another three points.
