Ekonomakis, Punishers shutout Assadi Consulting inc

The Punishers scored all three goals in the second period, and C.Ekonomakis turned in another stellar performance, leading to a 3-0 shutout win over the Assadi Consulting inc on Wednesday night. C.Ekonomakis was the big difference maker stopping all 28 shots he faced. It was M.Mavroudis that got the Punishers on board first, while P.Karvouriaris extended the lead on a power play goal. The 2-0 margin widened almost immediately thanks to B.Makris. It was one of those games that the Assadi Consulting inc played well enough to win only to be snake bitten every time. If C.Ekonomakis played a little more normal, the end result could have been different. Even though they dropped the end result, the Assadi Consulting inc know that they are on the right track despite what the standings look like. These two teams will face each other in the first playoff round starting very soon. The Punishers may admire their regular season record, but it wont mean much if they don’t take the Assadi Consulting inc serious. Hockey can sometimes be a deceptive game with a lot of unpredictable factors. All it takes is a bad bounce here and there, and all of a sudden the alarm bells start to ring. Tonight, the Punishers needed stellar goaltending in order to win.

Armadillos explode in second period to blow past Altius

Trading one goal after the first period was a deal that the Altius would sign any day. As long as the game remained close, the Altius were content since they had to manage a shorter bench. While things appeared to be going fine for a little while, that wasn’t completely the case as the second period started to wind down. The Armadillos  were able to put the Altius on their heels making them chase the game. And when you are stuck trying to follow your man, you have no choice but to do it properly as a collective unit. That type of game needs to be applied when trying to stop a bunch of talented players on the Armadillos roster. Eventually, they’ll find a way which was the case by the second period. The Armadillos kept pressing resulting in four unanswered goals that saw S.Athanasopoulos bury a pair while setting up J.Chiropoulos. Since the Armadillos found themselves in a comfortable position heading into the third period, it was up to the Altius to try and make changes in hopes of bouncing back. Unfortunately, they just didn’t have the man power and energy to match the pace of a ready opponent.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Chris Ekonomakis of the Punishers. The perception out there is that the Punishers are an offense machine that can score at will. And while that is very accurate, goaltending is sometimes overlooked in the case of the Punishers. If not for Ekonomakis doing his thing on Wednesday night, the end result could have been very different.
