Van Doos Hc win big third period to extend winning streak

(3)Horsemen vs Van Doos Hc(5)

With two teams headed in the opposite direction, you would have expected this contest to be a tilted affair. The Horsemen haven’t played well as of late, and tonight didn’t help either going up against a well oiled machine. But sometimes it just takes a little confidence and coordination to improve your game. Clearly, the Horsemen showed a lot more tonight compared to their last two ugly losses. They played a harder game by winning some battles which generated chances while applying a strong defensive game. Neither side out did the other for how close it was. It was only  by the thirteen minute mark of the third period that this contest was perhaps decided. The Van Doos Hc got a nice insurance marker by J.Tzanetakos to make the score 5-3. Prior to his goal, J.Liakakos broke the tie right before the mid way point of the final frame on a shot that M.Vinciguerra wished he had. That sequence didn’t stop the Horsemen-from pressing in search of that next tally. At least they worked hard to try and bounce back unlike their previous encounters. If not for a little bad luck, they could have handed the Van Doos Hc their first loss of the season. That being said, good teams find ways to win, and the Van Doos Hc got to the finish line first extending their perfect record to 8-0.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Armen Papazian of the Van Doos Hc. The sharp shooter struck twice, and added an assist for his clubs first three goals of the game.

Big second period lifts Snipers to win over Sonic

(7)Snipers vs Sonic(2)

Perhaps, its no coincidence that when the intensity ramped up on Thursday night, so too did the Snipers play. The Snipers, admittedly, did not get off to the grandest of starts against Sonic and found themselves trailing by a goal after one period. But when the urgency and feistiness started to elevate in the second period, the Snipers began to perk up, outshooting the Sonic by a large margin. The lopsided shots translated on the board to with the Snipers riding five unanswered goals. The surge didn’t involve any key player making the difference which is part of the identity of the Snipers. Five different players scored before Hadi Khanafer notched his second by the third to cap off a very productive night for his club. Sonic may have gotten the better start up 1-0, but where under siege by the second where they appeared unable to compete hard enough against a side that doesn’t take a night off.

RCGT Knights making it easy for the Van Doos Hc

(12)Van Doos Hc vs RCGT Knights(2)

This is what will happen when you don’t come prepared for a strong opponent. The RCGT Knights had to face off against a really hot Van Doos Hc club that has yet to drop a game this season. The one thing that you need to avoid is a bad start. Unfortunately, it was actually worse than that. Giving up six first period goals suggests that you aren’t  putting a good effort out there. The Van Doos Hc showed no mercy peppering a defenceless net minder that led to a ton of goals without much resistance. Rather than improving despite knowing that it’s a lost cause, the RCGT Knights looked equally disinterested in the second period giving up a bunch more tallies that finished off the game earlier than it should have. The only difference was they managed to put two behind the Van Doos Hc goaltender. The win came with a spread out offense that saw five players score at least two with N.Tsataronis leading the way on a hat trick. A.Papazian, J.Liakakos, N.Kokovidis and H.Patel were the ones who scored twice for the Van Doos Hc ninth straight win of the season.

Flying Squirrels battle back but fall after Horsemen take over

(3)Flying Squirrels vs Horsemen(7)

The Horsemen avoided the mistake of allowing the Flying Squirrels to battle back for a second time when they grabbed a 4-2 lead. This time, they got it right, but it still came with some risk. The Flying Squirrels had a golden opportunity to pull themselves within one on a power play chance. And rather than taking advantage, M.Kardum scored instead on a far slap shot stemming-from a play created by D.James. Now that the Horsemen regained their two goal lead, they made sure to be more aware on the court and not allow their opponent to crawl back into the game. Perhaps the calming moment occurred when M.Kardun notched his second mid way in the third period for a three goals cushion. From-there, the Horsemen felt confident that they would pull through since they did carry much of the play. D.James would score and collect his third point of the night while M.Kardum added one more to complete his hat trick.

Brew Crew win special teams battle against Fatal Demons

(4)Brew Crew vs Fatal Demons(1)

Powered by a perfect special teams night, the Brew Crew got the better of the Fatal Demons on Thursday night. The Brew Crew owned that department riding two power play goals along with a shorthanded marker. Adding to that, they did an incredible job killing off a pair of five on three’s giving the Fatal Demons barely enough scoring chances with so much room to move the ball. D.Verta capitalised twice with the man up for the Brew Crew while setting up M.Maggiore’s goal that held for the winner. The shorthanded tally came by the nine minute mark of the third period courtesy of C.Moutafis. Up until that point, the Fatal Demons had yet to figure out C.Muccino, who was strong keeping a very clean sheet versus a side that usually buries a few. However, Muccino missed out on his shutout when M.Chenier finally got to the net minder. Luckily for the Fatal Demons that this was just a regular season game for how they were taken by a better structured Brew Crew team. No doubt it will come as a lesson leaned moving forward. When two strong contenders face each other, you need to play at your best. That being said, its safe to say that the Brew Crew were clearly by far the better of the two sides on this night.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Danny Verta of the Brew Crew. When the opportunity is there, you have to take advantage of it. D.Verta did just that with a pair of power play goals that helped make the difference versus a rival opponent.
