Resilient Knights earn tough split with Snipers

Intensity and readiness are the key attributes which make up the DNA of the Snipers. Tonight, was no different as they stormed out of the gate as soon as the ball was dropped and easily routed the unprepared Knights in the opening contest by a score of 7-0. Game 2 however was a much different story as the Knights managed to flip the script.  After giving his team an earful and making some adjustments, captain S.Sauk was simply a beast between the pipes stopping 29 out of 30 shots.  F.Vitoratos provided the Knights with 2 goals and H.Jafar spoiled the shutout bid with only 35 seconds remaining.  The Knights rebounded nicely after their horrific start and perhaps the Snipers became complacent, but were left scratching their heads, and looking for solutions which they’ll undoubtedly address.

Heavyweight battle favors the Degenerates as they capture 1st place in the division

This match-up featured the top 2 teams in the division and it did not disappoint.  With plenty of back-and-forth action and fast pace and with a playoff like atmosphere and intensity, especially since first place was on the line, the Degenerates prevailed by earning a win and a tie.  Game 1 had ETNA leading 3-0 after 1 period only to see the Degenerates storm back to tie it late and force a shootout, where both goalies were brilliant allowing nothing to beat them.  Game 2 saw the Degenerates score very early and never trailed, with S.Marricco taking care of the offence by notching a hat trick.  The Degenerates will be a tough out, come playoff time and for ETNA, they’ll need to regroup and tighten things up defensively in their quest for the title.

Short bench catches up to Dragons as they split games with the Brodie Boys

The Dragons knew tonight’s games would be quite the challenge, since they only had 2 changeups on the bench and were playing a fast team that handed the Classics their only loss. But when you’re able to field a 3 headed monster like the Dragons, it’s a luxury.  Game 1 was dictated by the Dragons ball possession and high level passing resulting in a 7-3 rout and with A.Mirolla, M.Dettorre & J.Mandracchia combining for 13 points. Credit the Brodie Boys for showing their character and grit in game 2 by using a relentless forecheck and persistent speed by wearing down the shorthanded Dragons en route to earni ing an important split in the series. With an emphasis on team speed and execution, the Brodie Boys can make you pay and as for the Dragons, captain J.DeStefano knows full well that they can compete with anyone, but he’ll need to bring a full roster in this highly competitive division.

Stellar goaltending leads Assadi to sweep of Kings

Crucial points were on the line in this contest and the veteran laden Assadi came to play.  Lead by their team defense, ball possession and rock-solid goaltending, they managed to grab valuable points in the standings by winning both games.  M.Melo was simply unbeatable on this night making an incredible 44 saves and allowing only 1 goal in both games.  Credit also goes to their overall defensive minded play which limited the Kings scoring chances in the high danger areas as they defended the perimeter well and stifled them time after time.  Assadi can beat you in many facets of the game as tonight they showed their defensive prowess and intensity. The Kings will need to quickly forget about this one and regroup, since they’re still competing for a playoff spot.

Degenerates steal crucial points from Country Club in 2 game sweep

In order to avoid ending up in 4th place and having to play in a do or die playoff game, the Country Club needed to win both games in regulation.  They came with a stacked bench and ready to battle hard and it showed as they stormed out to a 4-1 lead after the opening frame.  The Degenerates then did what they do best as they chipped away at the lead and managed to tie it late to force a shootout where D.Charbonneau was the only player to solve the goaltender.  Game 2 was a different story, as the Degenerates were playing with a short bench and had the lead the whole game and played sound defensively keeping the Country Club on the outside and cleaning up the slot with minimal scoring chances.  Country Club use a score by committee approach, and they’ll need to adjust their defensive side of the ball and timely goaltending if they wish to pass the 1st round and into the semis.
