Fatal Demons third period comeback falls short in loss to Brew Crew

 (3)Fatal Demons vs Brew Crew(4)

M.Pace scored his second to restore the lead in the third period, C.Muccino made just over 30 saves, and the Brew Crew got the better of the Fatal Demons to kick off their season. The Fatal Demons fought back after a disastrous second period where they were completely out done by a better opponent. The Brew Crew did most of their damage during that session, rattling off three unanswered markers. Rather than throwing in the towel, the Fatal Demons wont go down without a fight. Good resiliency paid off as J.Bolonakis and M.Destounis notched consecutive goals to even the score. In hopes of carrying the momentum, M.Pace ruined the moment by responding shortly after and giving the Brew Crew a lead that was never answered. It came to no surprise that this game ended by a one goal margin. The two teams resemble each other in many ways which always suggests for a hard fought battle.

Defending champs win handily over Horsemen

 (6)Van Doos Hc vs Horsemen(2)

There was no rust or championship hangover for the Van Doos Hc who had a fairly easy time handing the Horsemen a defeat on Thursday night. Many things need to go right if you plan on defeating the Van Doos Hc. The Horsemen struggled in a few areas starting with their coverage, one on one battles, and some decision making plays with the ball. Unless you address those areas of your game, these types of results are to be expected. At least its only the first game of the regular season which is the right time to identify what needs to improve. The Horsemen have the players along with the experience but will need to gel and develop some chemistry as the season prolongs. On the flip side of the court, what can be said for a team that seems ready for a repeat season. Nearly everything went right as they cruised for a well earned win. Its always nice having a bunch of different players take turns scoring. It just goes to show that the threats come-from everywhere as six different players found the back of the net. A.Papazian’s late first period tally  was able to stick for the winner while J.Liopoulos continues to show why he is a top notch goalie by allowing only two goals on 23 shots.

Armadillos score two late goals to pick up stunning win over Snipers

 (2)Snipers vs Armadillos(3)

Its only the first week of the regular season, and this game ended in a shock. Talk about a painful collapse for the Snipers who clearly felt they deserved better. For nearly the entire match, they limited the Armadillos to only one goal. This wasn’t that type of game that saw nearly every shot go in. You needed a very big play in order to penetrate the defence, and more importantly the goaltending. The Snipers did everything right by playing in front while denying the Armadillos much room out there in order to bounce back. You have to figure that the end result was going to favour your side when needing all but 30 little seconds to kill off, especially after defending well for nearly the entire match. Now its one thing to occasionally give up a vey late goal like in this case when P.Lapointe tied the game with only 22 seconds left on the clock, and its another when giving up another tally barely seconds later to end the game in regulation time. No doubt it was a late moment of madness. The incredible turnaround saw J.Chiropoulos put the final nail in this contest with barley anytime left on the clock. Sometimes, you are stuck enduring a harsh finish like in tonight’s case. However, it couldn’t have happened at a better time for the Snipers with so many games ahead of them. If this was a playoff round, perhaps  some therapy may have been required. Luckily enough for the Snipers, its nothing more than just a regular season game.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Marco Pace of the Brew Crew. He’s just one of those players that will get you that big goal or two. The Brew Crew snuck out a close 4-3 win thanks to their hard grinding and skilled forward bagging two in a row.
