J.Bolanakis beats the clock by 5 seconds to lift Fatal Demons past Van Doos Hc

(2)Van Doos Hc vs Fatal Demons(3)

Two solid teams battled it out with playoff-esque intensity. P.Santullo and M.Mavroudis echoed the biggest sentiment of not wanting to lose two games in a row. Although a difficult challenge going up against the Van Doos Hc, the Fatal Demons don’t care who their opponent is. Everyone on that roster is confident in their abilities and know that they are easily a top contender when push comes to shove. Tonight, they showed what they are capable of by playing a hard nosed game that involves a lot of the little details while winning the one on one battles. Twice they led, and twice the Van Doos responded to even the score. The Van Doos only got on board passed the mid way point of the third period. It was there that A.Meterissian finally got to R.Ranieri, who was lights out keeping a clean score sheet. O.Valiquette would get the Van Doos back on track with just under two minutes left in the game to even things up at two goals a piece. Then, what seemingly was headed for overtime was haltered when J.Bolanakis came up big beating the clock with only five second remaining. M.Mavroudis set up the late tally after collecting two earlier points, and the Fatal Demons put together three solid periods of hockey to edge out a strong opponent.

Armadillos score 5 first period goals, rout Horsemen

(7)Armadillos vs Horsemen(0)

Surely, it was a disappointing performance for the Horsemen, who hoped to continue-from last weeks good habits. They talked about doing the right things, playing a sound defensive game by keeping it simple. Instead, there actions were just the opposite. The Armadillos still managed to expose them and it showed in the first period as they hammered them with five unanswered goals. Most of the damage came-from C.Chirola and S.Athanasopoulos as the two players combined fro seven points. There was no question the moral was low on the Horsemen’s bench. But rather than throwing in the towel, the mind set was still to get back out there and battle hard. They may not have gained ground, but neither did the Armadillos as both sides went scoreless during the frame. The Armadillos would gain the better start in the final stanza when P.Lapointe buried his second followed with a quick tally by R.Cohen. Since the game was evidently going to favour the Armadillos, the only thing left over was to see if the Horsemen could have cracked the barrier. F.Moshonas had to be thinking shutout since he wasn’t overwhelmed with shots. He did at certain points have to remain focused in which he did. After facing the few shots he received, the veteran net minder was glad to turn aside everything he faced to record a clean sheet.

Brew Crew storm back, but P.Kawkab provides huge victory for Snipers

(4)Snipers vs Brew Crew(3) O.T

Finally, the Snipers have something good to write home about. Accumulating points at this stage into the season came as a must win for the Snipers playoff hopes to stay alive. With A.Saleh scoring twice, and J.Hassan netting the other tally, the Snipers looked in fine shape heading into the final frame up 3-1. The deficit forced the Brew Crew to take some gambles if they planned on climbing back into this contest. Sometimes, it takes luck or a few bounces going your way. And sometimes  it’s a question of a player having the hot hand. In the case for the Brew Crew, A.Belanger was the saving grace as the young talent carried most of the load bagging all three goals for his club. His two tallies came two minutes apart, and all of a sudden, the Brew Crew had a chance of stealing this game-from the Snipers. The Snipers must have felt that bad vibe after surrendering those two goals while enduring a difficult season so far. But with some key additions inserted into their line up, the mind set was a little different despite the slight let down. P.Kawkab was one of two new players that dressed for the first time, and made an immediate impression of how significant he will be to his club. The game was ultimately decided thanks to P.Kawkab storming through the neutral zone where he riffled a shot that would make the TSN highlights. As big as that tally was for the Snipers to end a winless streak, the loss of the extra point in regulation time has the potential to bite them in the end. It will really come down to if they can put together some more strong performances with only a few games left in order to have a chance at reaching the playoffs.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Paul Kawkab of the Snipers. At this stage into the season, the Snipers are starting to run out of time and something needed to give. And although they would have loved nothing more than to close it out in regulation, P.Kawkab salvaged two crucial points by netting a huge overtime goal.
