D.Seguin snipes top corner beauty to defeat Snipers on identical scores

The Branditscan nearly let a 4-1 lead slip away, but held on anyway with T.Faucher’s second period tally making the difference. You knew that the Snipers would come out ready in their second encounter after a strong finish. Seven minutes in, and A.Sayed along with A.Khanafer put their side in the drivers seat up 2-0. Not to be deterred however, the Branditscan took over collecting the games next three tallies on scoring efforts-from different players. There was way to much back and forth action until that point for the score to remain idle. After exchanging numerous chances, B.Cabral would eventually level with just over three minutes remaining. Then, barely a minute later, D.Seguin regained the lead for the Branditscan, who once again let the Snipers back in courtesy of A.Saleh. Since every second counted, neither side felt comfortable enough that this contest would reach a shootout. There were to many goals which suggested that anyone could have broken the barrier as the clock was ticking down. And with about 35 seconds left in regulation time, D.Seguin scored arguably the prettiest one of the night that beat C.Malkoun top corner clean. Its been a few games now that the Branitscan are starting to show their true colors. After a shaky start to their season, N.Fancis’s group are starting to climb the ranks looking more and more like serious contenders.

Some penalty trouble dooms Brodie Boys in losses to ETNA

Penalty trouble proved too much to overcome for the Brodie Boys on Monday night as they dropped both games to ETNA. It was less of a factor in the opening game, but they still gave up a power play goal to the hands of J.Alfieri, who evened the score in the second period. It took only two minutes after that for ETNA to take its first lead of the game. A.Alfieri provided it,  and P.Delli Colli stood firm in net stopping every shot he faced to earn a hard fought 3-1 decision. In hopes of rebounding for a better outcome, the Brodie Boys couldn’t have asked for a worse period so far this season. They kept compounding their problems by visiting the penalty box way to often. By the time the opening frame ended, ETNA had scored four with the man advantage building a 5-1 lead heading into the final stretch. J.DiTiello was the brains behind the operation collecting four points that included a hat trick. You always hope to come back strong when trailing by a large margin. Unfortunately for the Brodie Boys, they just didn’t have the right mind set going into both games. It was just one of those nights that nothing seemed to work. Sure, it doesn’t help when missing some key pieces, but the team is strong enough to have shown a better effort. On the other hand, ETNA did nearly everything right, and deserved the well earned points.

Country Club snake bitten by A.Ekonomakis in second match, settle for split with Diabetoz Angels

A.Ekonomakis challenged himself to simply be better following a close 4-2 loss to the country Club. In a game that could have easily gone either way favoured the Country Club on a late goal by N.Smith, who snapped a 2-2 tie. Apart-from his big moment, the Country Club got three tallies-from C.Gosselin, and a solid goaltending display by M.Dupuis. In the ensuing match, A.Ekonomakis looked like the player whose steady play helped propel the Diabetoz Angels to victory. Solid at the start, and stoic at the finish, Ekonomakis turned aside 20 shots to split the mini series with the Country Club. All they really needed was one goal by J.Zervakos to seal the deal. J.Fisch would rather make sure his side had some breathing room as the power forward scored an incredible goal only seconds later to widen the gap.  By that point, time was becoming too much of an issue for the Country Club who had no answers on how to penetrate a moving wall. J.Mcteigue would cap off the night on a late marker for his second point, and the Diabetoz Angels continue to impress as they slowly climb the ranks of the division.

Dragons impose their will on rival Classics

The Classics were good for extended stretches Monday, but good isn’t good enough against a Dragons team continues to showcase why they are a top contender. Ultimately, J.Mandracchia made most of the difference in the first game scoring three out of his clubs five goals. The Dragons immediately dictated the terms by grabbing the better start. Once they led, the Classics were forced to battle back only to fall short. The second encounter saw both sides playing an evenly matched game. Tied 3-3 heading into the second frame, something was to give. The Dragons were able to impose their will once again by being the more engaged team. D.Lombardi buried his second to snap the tie, and J.Mandracchia couldn’t have scored a better timely goal. The sequence forced the Classics once more to play-from behind. Its not like the Classics weren’t able to match the Dragons. C.Gingras was a thorn all night making plenty happen, but couldn’t perhaps get that extra support-from a valued missing line mate in P.Karvouriaris. When playing a solid stacked line up like the Dragons have at this level, all your elements are required in order to have better odds of winning. Even though they fell short in both games, this wont mean anything in the grand scheme of things. The odds are likely these two teams will meet for the big dance unless the Assadi Consulting inc have something to say about that. Time will only tell.

Degenerates strong finish carries over in second match with United Arms

If not for some late lapses, the United Arms would have walked away with three points giving them their first win of the season. Everything was going just fine as they found ways to score while making it hard for the Degenerates to get their licks in. R.Kenadjian arguably was a big reason why his club was able to play ahead. But as the opening game started to wind down into the latter stages, the Degenerates went into desperation mode where they upped the ante. First, P.Paikopoulos picked up a rebound to level, and D.Greco followed up only seconds later to put the Degenerates in front for the first time during the match. Now that everything started to gel for the veteran side, the ensuing match had a different story line with the script flipping. The Degenerates made sure to be more engaged -from the drop of the ball by taking it to the United Arms right away. Three different players had scored before C.Stamadianos capped off the frame with back to back tallies. With the way things transpired, many indicators suggested that this contest was written in the books. That was until the United Arms showed that they weren’t done yet. A.Melkounian was the catalyst behind the potential comeback as the forward strung two quick goals to cut the lead by three. A.Minassian would score three minutes later, and all of a sudden there was a hockey game with more than enough time left over. There was no doubt the momentum shifted for the United Arms. And while the Degenerates didn’t have their best outing, they still remained calm, cool and collective knowing that they were still in control of the game. The only difference was that they made sure to approach the remainder of the frame more serious. Everyone applied themselves harder which eliminated any more threats. Eventually, D.Greco added an insurance marker, and the Degenerates got the job done in the end.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Daniel Greco of the Degenerates. For someone that’s been missing-from action for a long period of time, it surely didn’t look that way on Monday night. Playing hockey is like riding a bicycle for many, and D.Greco hasn’t missed a beat collecting an impressive four goals and two assists.
