Punishers & 1 Timer rely on their key players

C.Gingras displayed a one man show and did what he does best, and that’s to dominate the score sheet. Whether its scoring goals or creating plays, Gingras  keeps showing his character no matter the challenge in front of him. The Punishers took the second contest thanks to their magician igniting four straight goals. Granted, it didn’t help that the 1 Timer took three penalties in which all resulted in power play goals for the Punishers. Prior to the second game however, the first encounter had a different story line with the net minders deserving much of the credit. After playing to a 2-2 draw, F.Koch and M.Melo showed their poise and patience in the shootout. Neither net minder flinched while anticipating the movement of the shooter in front of them. That contest could have easily ended in the Punishers favour if not for F.Koch robbing C.Gingras point blank with only a second left on the clock.

Les Immigrant unable to recover after late collapse

Les Immigrant were sitting pretty with a 2-0 lead against the Excalibur on Monday night. They were looking confident and the outcome looked favourable up until it wasn’t. Then, and in the span of only two minutes, the disaster occurred. The Excalibur stormed with goals in the final three minutes on efforts from three different players that saw Z.Bhanji net the winner. It was clear that the loss affected Les Immigrant in the ensuing match. At no point were they in it. There focus got the best of them as three straight penalties resulted in power play goals for the Excalibur. J.Azoulay collected four straight points while A.Fonrose was right behind him with three points.

LG HC collecting some extra points after two tight battles with les Yables

Though tempted throughout a back and forth  affair on Monday night, the LG HC refused to let their head to head with the high energy Yables slip out of their grasp, collecting four out of a possible six points. With both encounters being extremely close, the LG HC relied on their special teams to take a tight 3-2 victory. Perhaps, the key tally came when E.Girouard scored shorthanded to snap a 1-1 tie. Y.Derohannessian would eventually bag the winner on the power play. Les Yables had a great opportunity to even the score in the ensuing match. After all, they led 4-2 thanks to T.Charpentier’s hat trick. Best effort or not, the LG HC upped the ante in hopes of bouncing back. Eventually, they came together as it took all but two minutes for J.Mandracchia and E.Mavroudis to respond. Neither team was then able to get it done in regulation time leaving only a dreaded shootout. And after sending two players from each side, L.Verdon came through for Les Yables as did E.Girouard for the LG HC.

Degenerates recover after slow start

Clearly, it wasn’t a pleasant sight for the Degenerates early on giving up three straight goals just shy of the eight minute mark of the period. But fortunately enough, they pulled out the stops and settled for a tie. Both goaltenders stood tall during the breakaways with J.Atch stopping all three shooters for the Degenerates as did his counter part R.Ceneston for the Prolific Athletes. Usually teams feed off their momentum after finishing strong like the Degenerates did. And that was exactly the case in the second encounter as they struck twice by the seven minute mark of the opening period. First, S.Fabrici launched his canon of a slap shot which was eventually followed by a tricky wrist shot from J.Melo for the 2-0 lead. The Prolific Athletes did finally get on board when Sonny-Anthony Longo  got to J.Atch. Despite cutting the lead in half,  the Prolific Athletes couldn’t get that much needed equaliser. The Degenerates made sure to tighten up their game while relying on J.Atch to take care of his cage. L.Bavellas added an insurance marker for good measure making sure the game was over and done with.

Classics miss out on splitting with ice Breakers

Unhappy with the way things ended in their first match, the Classics had a great chance of redeeming themselves in the second game. They managed to grab the lead and benefit on two straight power play goals by the second period. M.Destounis participated in all three markers and the Classics appeared to resolve a poor finish from their earlier loss. Add to the fact that it’s a strength to their team when protecting a lead, especially with the amount of experience they have. However, that didn’t stop the Ice Breakers from breathing down their necks. It took less than a minute for a sinking ship to get back on itself. M.Boghossian cut the lead to one and M.Thakaa followed up only moments later to even the score. From there, neither side was able to get it done in regulation time leaving all but a shootout to decide matters. Unfortunately for both sides, the goaltenders stood in the way denying two of three shot attempts.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Carl Gingras of the Punishers. When C.Gingras is at his best, there is little any opposing team can do to stop him. After collecting a pair of points in an earlier draw with the 1 Timer, C.Gingras went on tear in the second game, notching four goals and two assists for a 6-4 victory.
