(0)Devil Dawgz vs Hawks(4) Game 1

Hawks sharp in game 1 shutout of P.Assadi

The Hawks opened up their series with a bang versus the red hot Devil Dawgz. The third seeded Hawks got goals from-four different players and a 29 save performance by their net minder P.Assadi. The game was already 3-0 after only thirteen minutes of play. A.Mosacto tapped in a perfect pass-from A.Zarzour, A.Lanni batted a ball-from mid air and A.Zarzour struck minutes later for the three goal cushion. The Devil Dawgz were forced to play catch up at that point but knew that the Hawks weren’t going to give much. Everyone in the Hawks made it a point to tighten up by keeping the centremen very close to their defenseman. With that good start, the Hawks erased some embarrassment of how they have been playing lately. But, it is only game one and things can change very easily considering how lethal the Devil Dawgz can be at times.

(2)HBHA Seniors vs Stones(0)

C.Stavriadis shutout, HBHA edge out Stones in tight battle

The Stones know that they can defend, and despite limiting a team like to the HBHA Seniors to only two goals, it still wasn’t good enough in the end. D.Andrade opened the scoring ten minutes in and K.Papapostolou doubled the lead by the five minute mark of the second period. The defending champs played a prototypical playoff game by limiting scoring chances and getting the timely goals. For the Stones, it’s been a problem that has endured all season which is the lack of production up front. Despite the dry spell for this game, the Stones know that they can be effective if they can get to Stavriadis first in their next game. If they can manage that lead or maybe even increase it with a pair, then anything is possible, especially that the mini game is only 15 minutes.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Pedram Assadi of the Hawks. After playing brutal hockey in their last few games, P.Assadi helped regain some confidence by turning away 29 shots for a game one series lead.

(1)Hawks vs Devil Dawgz(5) Game 2

Devil Dawgz even series with bounce back win vs Hawks

Short term memory came in handy as the Devil Dawgz bounced back with more energy and intensity to even up its semi final playoff series. After giving up an early goal, the Devil Dawgz responded immediately grabbing a lead that they never let go of. A.Guillaume opened the scoring and added another tally by the ten minute mark of the third to put the match away. The dormant Hawks had some moments to get back in it but weren’t good enough struggling to beat S.Sauk, who was clearly focused for this encounter. Knowing that the game was lost, the Hawks were thinking ahead to the mini game in hopes of starting fresh.

(2)Devil Dawgz vs Hawks(3) Game 3 O.T

N.Faria goes nuclear with game series clincher

Unable to get it done in a 15 minute mini game, this series needed the extra five minutes to determine a winner. At that point, both sides kept crossing their fingers as any shot on net would possibly decide who would advance and who would exit in a heartbreaking finish. In most cases, it would come down to an established goal scorer getting it done but not in this particular circumstance. N.Faria has been snake bitten all season without a goal, and when it counted the most, the struggling centreman may have forgotten his scoring woes by providing the most important goal so far for the Hawks. The Devil Dawgz showed once again how resilient they were by overcoming a 2-0 deficit in the mini game. Their equalizer came with four minutes remaining when G.Berberyan struck to beat P.Assadi. The Hawks got their scoring done by E.Colella and A.Zarzour while P.Assadi got the slight edge over his counterpart as both goaltenders did a fine job keeping their clubs in it.

(1)Stones vs HBHA Seniors(6) Game 2

HBHA sweep series, look to repeat as Masters 35+ champs

A good start and another solid outing by C.Stavriadis made for a fairly easy night for the HBHA Seniors. G.Kamvosoulis scored twice and J.Bolanakis got credited the winner as part of a three point performance. The Stones went through the same problem as in last week’s game unable to penetrate the HBHA Seniors defensive game and net minder. T.Settino was the only player to score out of the two games in this series. The win sends the HBHA Seniors to their second final in as many seasons. Entering as favorites, they will now take on the Hawks to try and repeat what they did to them in their last final.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Nelson Faria of the Hawks. When it counted the most, N.Faria came through providing the series deciding goal to help lead the Hawks to their fourth straight final.
