(8)JLR Brossard vs Smooth Sailors(7) Game 1

JLR Brossard J.Pantelis jolts Smooth Sailors with first period hat trick

J.Pantelis was more relived that his team got the job done rather than posting a first period hat trick along with an assist. For the JLR Brossard, it was all about getting the victory. But sometimes winning a big hockey game doesn't always feel the way it's prepped up to be. This contest was an example of that with the JLR Brossard nearly squandering a massive lead before it was said and done. Down 8-3 heading into the third period, the Smooth Sailors decided to pick it up and almost evened the score if it wasn't for the clock to run out of time. Only a few more seconds was perhaps needed for this game to head into a shootout considering how dominant the Smooth Sailors were throughout the entire period. Despite the loss, the Smooth Sailors felt confident the way things ended and will look to apply their momentum into game two like they did only a week ago versus the Raging Rhinos.

Smooth Sailors rally to even series

Marco Diaco scored the go ahead goal at the 8:30 mark of the third period, and the Smooth Sailors rallied-from two down to beat the JLR Brossard 6-4 and tie the series at one game apiece. The comeback began early in the third period in large part due to the captain's sheer determination. J.Palmitano notched two quick goals, both with the help of M.Testolina before setting up his most valued line mate late in the match. Looking back, the JLR Brossard had to be wondering on how they couldn't close out the series, especially being up 4-2 with only one period remaining. After missing game one, G.Pisanelli added some fuel for the JLR Brossard by netting three out of his clubs four goals. With the series now tied, both sides focused on how to approach their most important fifteen minutes and possibly more in a game three do or die match up.

Captain J.Palmitano comes through in the clutch, Smooth Sailors celebrate as champions

There was no doubt that J.Palmitano was the best player out there for the two sides in the most important fifteen minutes of hockey. The captain used two precise wrist shots to find the back of the net while setting up both M.Testolina and Marco Diaco to stamp out the series with the JLR Brossard. The Smooth Sailors thought they had it wrapped up on a 2-0 lead with only four minutes left on the clock. It took only three minutes-from that point on that Payam Assadi fed G.Pisanelli and Joe DeStefano to level the contest at two goals apiece leaving only a minute in the game. Surely, both sides figured this was going into a five minute sudden death period. But when considering how potent the offense is from-both clubs, any shot at any given moment can turn the tides. Twenty seconds was all that it took-from the face off when M.Testolina found himself alone to riffle a one timer giving no chance to Pedram Assadi. Then, by grinding it out in the corner to waste valuable time, J.Palmitano fed Marco Diaco, who buried his one timer with no traffic around him. When looking back, both teams knew the circumstances going in with the mindset of playing desperate. Every player had the confidence and contributed in a big way with so much on the line. Nobody had to do anything special except for their job which ultimately got both these teams this far. On behalf of Hockeyballe.com, congratulations go out to Joey Palmitano and the Smooth Sailors for capturing the E Thursday division title.
