Jozef Stumpel, former NHL player, was recently elected president of the Slovak Ball Hockey Association (SHBU).

In the past, Stumpel distinguished himself on the international scene with both the ice hockey and ball hockey national Slovak teams. In 1999, he won the International Street & Ball Hockey Federation World Championship (ISBHF) World Championship, in Zvolen and in 2002, the Ice Hockey World Championship in Gothenburg (Sweden).

During his professional ice hockey career, Stumpel played 1002 games in the NHL with the jerseys of Boston Bruins, Florida Panthers and Los Angeles Kings where he reached 707 points: 201 goals and 506 assists.

Today, at the age of 40, he is still an active hockey player, playing in the highest Slovak ice hockey league where he won the silver medal for his hometown, Nitra, in 2012.

When Jozef Stumpel accepted his candidacy for SHBU President, he also accepted to be the honorary president of the “Streethockey School League”, organized for primary and secondary school in his country.

As the Czech Street and Ball Hockey Association did not too long ago, members of the SHBU Council confirmed their membership in the only international ball hockey organization covering nations and federations from all over the world, the International Street and Ball Hockey Federation (ISBHF).

During the last SHBU Council meeting, it has been announced that Slovak national men’s and women’s teams will participate in the ISBHF World Ball Hockey Championships, from June 2-9, 2013, in St. John’s Canada.
