Monday December 18 (Division 2 Final)
Degenerates respond with two big games to claim title
In the opening game of this much anticipated final, the Sharpshooters were able to set the tone by striking first. The initial goal by A.Reid not only gave them a lead, but also established momentum in their favour. The Sharpshooters understood the importance of breaking the barrier first due to their shorter bench. And as long as they played in front, the Degenerates struggled to get much going up front since the Sharpshooters made it a point to defend. M.Kardum closed it out with his second, and L.Regis was rock solid earning the shutout. While it wasn’t their best effort, the Degenerates remained calm and collective knowing that game two was going to be a much different game. The key was to try and strike first and ignite the bench. That moment actually occurred very early on when J.Melo released a wicked wrist shot to break the spell. Once that goal went in, the Degenerates were all fired up and determined to even the series. The game went on to be a lopsided affair as everyone bought into playing for one another. S.Marricco, the bull up front went on a tear riffling three goals while J.Courteau bagged a pair. Now that the series was all knotted up, a mini game three stood in the way in what was expected to be a closely contested battle. It really came down to who would get on board first. C.Taddeo was able to establish an early lead just 30 seconds in for the Degenerates. There was no doubt that goal maintained their momentum throughout the entire match. When fuelled by ones determination and confidence, it becomes very difficult for the opposition to battle back. Add the fact that R.Ranieri was stopping nearly everything, the Degenerates knew they were on their way to success. T.Settino and S.Marricco added to the slight lead ultimately securing the final. On behalf of Hockeyballe.com, congratulations go out Sebastian Sicuso and the Degenerates for claiming their fourth title of the division.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Rino Ranieri of the Degenerates. There was no question that R.Ranieri made a significant impact for his teams success. He didn’t get the support in game one, but shined with skill and the ability to bounce back with his teams back to the wall. The net minder displayed stellar goaltending allowing all but two goals in the consecutive games.
