(5)SBS Trashers vs Smooth Sailors(4) O.T
P.Manousos OT winner caps thrilling comeback for the Trashers
Trailing 4-2, the SBS Trashers E.Panzera and J.Guerriero scored in the final minutes to tee up P.Manousos's winner in overtime. Even if it's only the first game of the season, the SBS Trashers aren't taking games for granted after missing the playoffs. The message was sent loud and clear-from their leaders to play a little harder in order to get rewarded. Perhaps the Smooth Sailors may have felt in total control by trying to make fancy plays rather than locking the game down. After all, they dominated much of the second period and stretches of the third where the SBS Trashers had no solutions to respond with a goal. Unfortunately for the Smooth Sailors, a bad third period finish set up the stage for a horrible ending to their season debut.
(4)Legends vs United Arms Jr(5)
Pace kicks in third period for United Arms Jr
While all was well for two periods for the Legends, the same couldn't be said for the final frame. Being up 3-2 against a resilient hockey team isn't nearly enough unless you play to their level. The difference was that the United Arms Jr played to win while the Legends played not to lose. For nearly the entire final frame, the United Arms Jr dictated the pace by winning almost every loose ball battle. G.Jerjian scored twice during that span right before H.Jerjian put the final dagger with only two minutes left in the game. K.Kavanan helped set up three goals in the win while M.Paganon was the Legends best player with three points.
(6)JLR Brossard vs Underdogs(7) O.T
Barn burner favours Underdogs
More impressive on how the Underdogs got their goals was that they all came-from different players. By playing really hard, the Underdogs demonstrated their identity with this kind of result. No superstars were needed but an overall collective effort. Maybe the only concern was the amount of goals they gave up but that's easier said than done when playing the JLR Brossard. Unlike their opponents, J.Rochon was the superstar bagging an impressive five tallies out of the six that went in. To his help, Payam Assadi set him up four times while netting a marker. The Underdogs trailed 5-4 entering the third period before taking over with help-from F.Nasser, the captain J.Constantin and W.Aboud, who ended it off with the sudden death winner.
The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Peter Manousos of the SBS Trashers. Knowing how important a good start top the season is, P.Manousos put the SBS Trashers on the right track with a huge overtime goal.
