(4)Devil Dawgz vs Brewers (1)
K.Araujo and P.Paikopoulos shine in Devil Dawgz 4-1 victory over Brewers
The duo between K.Araujo and P.Paikopoulos heated up on Friday night. With the game deadlocked at one goal apiece, the two delivered in a big way combining for five points. K.Araujo notched back to back tallies while Paikopoulos set up him up twice before capping it off on a late marker. M.Trivisonno also had a big game making 31 saves yielding his only goal to C.Pirone. The Brewers scored 30 seconds into the contest and figured that they had a few more in them only to go dry the rest of the way.
(3)The Family vs The Pillows(8)
Pillows ride second period surge past Family
Already up 2-1 after one period, the Pillows used three quick goals to start off the second frame and distance themselves-from the Family. M.Salerno struck twice in the same shift-from his sweet spot that included some brilliant hand eye coordination to bat the ball-from mid air. That sequence was enough to re assure that this contest was practically decided, at least in the minds of the Pillows players. The Family struggled offensively and only had their best moments when the game was out of reach. A.Perreult scored two third period goals, and S.Cavallaro along with N.Addesa collected two points each in the loss. If there is one constant when the Pillows score this many, that will be the play of T.Settino. The centre man was able to share a hat trick with M.Salerno while N.Mucci set up three different teammates-from the back end.
(7)Killer Wolves vs National (2)
National unable to contain a pair of natural goal scorers
There needs to be a couple of key game points that teams have to address in order to defeat a team like the Killer Wolves. And since many haven't this season, National was the only team so far to hand them a loss. The problem however is that unless you play them right, the odds are stacked against you. Tonight's contest saw two natural goal scores get their way once again. J.Brunet and O.Valiquette each feasted with hat tricks while the captain D.Lafleur collected three assists. Surely it's easier said than done on recognizing who the threats are and how to handle them, but National know that they could have done a better job containing them. For now, the Killer Wolves will win the regular season battle and secure a spot in the final of the first division.
(6)HBHA vs Excalibur (4)
Excalibur putting up some good challenges only to fall short once more
If the Excalibur can keep playing the way they have as of late, than S.Sauk and his troops will be just fine when the playoffs arrive. Of course nobody likes losing, but when you drop two consecutive contests versus top teams like National and the HBHA, the near future can only be bright. This game was only decided very late when the HBHA got goals by T.Koutlis and an empty net marker-from S.Nicholson. Prior to that point, both sides entered the final frame levelled at three goals apiece. The next tally went in favour of the Excalibur courtesy of S.Ruggiero snapping the tie. Unfortunately, that lead barely lasted thanks to T.Angelis responding right away for the HBHA. That was Angelis's second of the match, who shared multi goal performances with T.Koutlis and P.Karigiannis.
The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Kevin Araujo of the Devil Dawgz. His two goals couldn't have come at a better time. The hardnosed defenseman broke a 1-1 tie while widening the margin on a power play marker.
