(5)Killer Wolves vs National (2) Game 1
Special teams favours Killer Wolves in game 1
The first period, like many first periods this season, the Killer Wolves always find a way to get the upper hand on any opponent. National had to battle back throughout the entire match in hopes of tying the game. Twice they pulled within one but were never able to get that much needed goal. Most of the Killer Wolves offense was concentrated on three players. J.Brunet buried three goals, K.Duplin notched a pair of key back to back tallies while R.Morne was the catalyst-from the back end setting up three markers. The one specific area that made the difference in this contest was that the Killer Wolves benefited twice with the man advantage while National were stuck going 0 for 5 on their power play.
(2)National vs Killer Wolves(5) Game 2
Killer Wolves crowned champions in Masters 35+ division
From-the moment J.Brunet opened the scoring in a shorthanded situation, the Killer Wolves felt confident about their chances. A 3-0 lead was built and protected for well over two periods and in large due to how well D.Laurie was playing in net. The Killer Wolves may be known for their high octane offense but a major reason for their success also lies between the pipes. Again, National failed to capitalise on their power play, this time going 0 for 3. On the flip side, V.Lamrache widened the gap by three after scoring a late second period power play marker. Finally, National did get on board solving Laurie twice in a very short span. Unfortunately, that was as close as it got for M.Pinheiro and his troops. E.Bastos eventually summarized the series on two late tallies.
The Killer Wolves got to this point and expected nothing less. The winning effort was typical of these Killer Wolves, with key players contributing in a big way. Only a perfect game-from any opponent would have halted their success, instead they went about their business and got what they deserved. On behalf of Hockeyballe.com, congratulations go out to David Lafleur and the rest of the Killer Wolves for winning the Masters 35+ division.
The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Daniel Laurie. Unless you beat him good, D.laurie wasn't budging. The net minder never allowed National to capitalise at crucial times during the series.
Division 2 Semi finals
(6)Devil Dawgz vs Excalibur (3) Game 1
Devil Dawgz dominant in game 1 win over Excalibur
Its only one game, but the Devil Dawgz clearly showed that they have the team to pull through. Everything went right-from their goaltending, solid defence and explosive offense. Two out of their six goals came on the power play. A.Jalilvand had a multi goal game and M.Trivisonno was sharp to earn the win in net. The Excalibur felt they didn't have much time with the ball for how well the Devil Dawgz pressure. If they are to have a chance to extend the series, S.Sauk will need to be brilliant for two straight games.
(4)The Pillows vs Brewers(5) S.O Game 1
A.Lanni sparks Brewers with hat trick
They kept it simple and it worked. The Brewers didn't complicate hockey in their close shootout win over the Pillows on Friday night. By simply shooting the ball toward the net and having someone there to pick up rebounds, the Brewers were able to execute. However, it did take an extra round of hockey to solidify the victory. That area of the game belonged to G.Platanitis, who used his aggressive style to deny four attempts. R.Hagen was the lone shooter to find the back of the net on a tricky wrist shot. Prior to the breakaways, the Brewers captain was definitely feeling it on this night. A.Lanni was often at the right place at the right time potting three out of his clubs four goals. This contest could have easily gone either way but the Brewers will carry the advantage up 1-0.
The SalumiVino player of the night belongs to Anthony Lanni. The pesky forward was on top of his game causing havoc that resulted in three big goals.
