Sunday February 5 (Final)
Bad start dooms division leaders, Team Purple crowned champions of Sunday Night Draft League
(2)Team White vs Team Purple(8)
Team White’s defense was overmatched by Team Purples offense, Team Whites offense weren’t able to get going like in their previous games, leaving the division champs to cope with the heartbreak of coming up just one game short of their championship dreams. The game got off to a bad start for Team White having to deal with a very short bench. Playing with only one change is playing with fire when reaching this stage. Team White knew they had a couple of key pieces on their way, but by the time they arrived, Team Purple took advantage with three straight goals. There inability to weather the storm came to hurt Team White in the end. Its very difficult to try and play-from behind when the stakes are this high. Even though F.Tannous scored a big goal to reduce the gap by two, the game still got away-from the division leaders. Actually, it got worse with Team Purple showing a lot more determination in their play. Players tend to play with more confidence while taking nothing for granted in a game of this magnitude . As Team White attempted to narrow the gap, Team Purple would counter attack, and eventually get rewarded to distance themselves further away. Usually the offense in concentrated on a couple of players for Team Purple, but not in this particular match as many chipped in. M.Lang scored his first of two on penalty shot goal to make it 3-0,M.Porato also tallied twice, and B.Verducci was perhaps the key element for the end result. The goaltender was stellar all game long allowing only two goals, especially early on when Team Purple was able to build their lead and take control of the contest. You can look at a few turning points as to why games end the way they do. In tonight’s case, with Team White not ready to play, they ultimately caused their own misery and paid the price for it. You cannot afford to take a night off when going up against a very balanced team. Since Team Purple had their act together-from the get go, it only made sense that they were the ones to prevail in the end. Congratulations got out to Team Purple for capturing the Sunday Night Draft League title.
The Allo Mon Coco player of the game goes to Ben Verducci of Team Purple. The goaltender had a solid playoff run, and was largely at his best when the game mattered the most allowing only two goals versus a team that’s been dominant all season.
