Sunday March 3 (Round 1, Playoffs)

M.Mascitto and Kings hold strong in tightly contested battle

(4)Kings vs Red Wings(2)

In a crucial playoff elimination match between the Red Wings and the Kings, the stakes couldn’t have been higher. The tension was palpable as both sides battled through the motions of grabbing the edge. The Kings got their first on two quick goals by N.Faria and D.Lucchesi. Then, a quick swift response by A.Amaral put the Red Wings back in contention making sure that the game doesn’t get out of reach. It didn’t take long after for the Kings to pull ahead by two when N.Faria buried his second on a penalty shot. Rather than finding themselves in a deeper hole, the Red Wings had another answer thanks to A.Amaral’s second. All five goals were scored in first seventeen minutes of the game. That kind of rate suggested for plenty of more goals to come, but it didn’t quite turn out that way. Since the onus was on the Red Wings to score, the Kings made it a point to thwart the Red Wings offense and protect their lead. No matter how many times they tried to even the score, M.Mascitto stood in the way. The goaltender was no question influential as to why his side is advancing and why the Red Wings couldn’t finish when they had to. Once M.Braun added a late insurance marker, the Kings knew they were well on their way to the next round.

The Allo Mon Coco Ste Dorothee player of the game goes to Mike Mascitto of the Kings. Facing some decent shots toward him, M.Mascitto stood tall in net, frustrating the Red Wings to claw their way back into the match.

T.Scarpelli heroics seal overtime win vs depleted Bruins

(3)Bruins vs Sabres(4) O.T

From-the opening face off, it was clear that the Bruins were prepared to leave it all on the court, despite missing key components due to circumstances. At no point did the Bruins back down, even after trailing 3-1. R.Santosuosso was on a mission knowing that he had to put that extra gear in order to give his side a chance. The forward scored twice before setting up P.Petraccione for the equaliser. While their performance on the court was on full display-from playing their hearts out, A.Benedetto was also another huge reason as to why the Bruins made it to overtime. Save after save, A.Benedetto stood in the way, providing all the confidence required in order for the Bruins to cause a major upset. If the Bruins knew before the game to take the deal for an overtime game, the papers would have been signed with a bunch of lawyers to take that deal. Unfortunately, a really bad break gave the Sabres an incredible  opportunity to decide matters. M.Lallitto was having a sensational game for the Bruins by breaking plays while setting up all three goals. Then, a play behind his net resulted in a holding call that enabled T.Scarpelli to take the penalty shot. With the series hanging in the balance, T.Scarpelli waited out A.Benedetto long enough  before sliding the ball right under him. For the Bruins, it was a bitter pill to swallow after putting up a resilient fight throughout the game. As for T.Scarpelli and the Sabres, they will cherish this victory as they continue their journey in the playoffs.

The Allo Mon Coco Ste Dorothee player of the game goes to Tony Scarpelli of the Sabres. With the series on the line and all eyes on him, T.Scarpelli stepped up to the challenge, converting a critical penalty shot to secure the win for the Sabres.

Flyers soar past Kraken on late surge

(6)Flyers vs Kraken(3)

Both teams battled fiercely-from the opening draw, trading goals and momentum swings in back and forth action that kept spectators on the edge of their seats. The game remained close for much of the matchup, with neither team able to gain much of an advantage. As the clock ticked down and tensions mounted, it was the Flyers who seized control of the game with a late surge. With the contest still up for grabs, D.Fortier and M.Destounis dug deep and found another gear scoring two fairly late goals to put the Flyers up by three. Their offensive outburst stunned the Kraken and swung momentum decisively in their favour, leaving no doubt about the outcome of the game. From-M.Tzouvadakis making timely saves to the defensemen shutting down the Kraken’s offensive threats , every player on the Flyers roster played a crucial role in the teams success. While everyone did a fine job pulling their weight, its safe to say that M.Destounis was the catalyst behind making everyone around him better. The Flyers scored six times tonight with M.Destounis  being a threat all game collecting five big points.

The Allo Mon Coco Ste Dorothee player of the game goes to Marino Destounis of the Flyers. His dynamic playmaking ability coupled with his scoring touch was on full display resulting in two goals and three assists.

Wild outlast Canadiens in thriller

(5)Wild vs Canadiens(3)

For those who wanted a clash filled with tension and excitement, this one lived up to the hype. Both teams took off in their relentless pursuit in a game that featured plenty of back and forth action along with some jaw dropping saves by the net minders. The Wild did play with the slight edge however finding themselves up 4-2 at one point. But with M.Danesi responding on a wicked slap shot, the Canadiens were again a hair away-from tying the game. You knew that they would apply a ton of pressure as they so desperately sought that next goal. The problem  is that S.Sauk stood in the way. Since its playoff season, S.Sauk was dialled in more than usual that even his teammates may have complimented him for once. The Canadiens had some high end scoring chances only to keep hitting a moving brick wall unable to penetrate the committed goaltender. While the Canadiens fought valiantly till the final buzzer, they ultimately fell short in their quest for victory. In the end, it was the Wild who managed to maintain their composure in the face of adversity, capitalising on key opportunities to extend their lead and fend off the Canadiens late surge.

The Allo Mon Coco Ste Dorothee player of the game goes to Scott Sauk of the Wild. His positioning and ability to read the play frustrated the Canadiens onslaught, denying them crucial scoring opportunities and keeping the Wild in control of the game.

As the final buzzer sounded tonight, marking the end of Round 1, teams and fans are already looking ahead to the excitement of the quarter finals. With each game of round 1 delivering its share of drama and intensity, the stage is now set for the next phase of the championship run. The top four seeded teams will now take to the court against tonight’s winners. The match ups are as follows:

(1)Predators vs Sabres(11) Led by their well rounded roster and formidable depth, the Predators are no question the team to beat right now. The Predators regular season speaks to itself as they look to continue furthering their quest into the playoffs. While the Predators know what to do by simply playing their game, its up to the Sabres to find solutions on how to knock out the favourites. They did overcome some adversity after defeating the Bruins as they’ll now rely on their grit and determination to disrupt the Predators game plan and capitalise on scoring opportunities.

(2)Blackhawks vs Flyers(8)The Blackhawks enter the quarter finals as a force to be reckoned with, boasting a potent combination of offensive fire power and defensive prowess. Led by some established leadership material in E.Allen along with a dynamic playmaker in D.Greco, the Flyers may want to pay close attention on how to approach their opponent. That being said, the other side of it applies as well with M.Destounis  leading the charge up front for the Flyers. This series will rely on strategy on how to contain and play certain players. If both sides follow their assignments, odds are that the Blackhawks will prevail. It will depend on how Pat Santullo of the Flyers gets his troops to play. The GM has fried bigger fish in the past and this match up may be no different.

(3)Panthers vs Wild(7) The Wild look to enter this match up with some confidence after a grinding first round victory. They know who to watch for and apply a strict game plan in order to slow down major threats such as M.Chenier and M.Kardum. If both players can be neutralised, and B.Verducci doesn’t steal the show in net, the Wild could advance. Since the Panthers know what to expect, they’ll find a way to adjust and exploit their opponents weaknesses. This is a series that can easily go either way.

(4)Islanders vs Kings(5) The Kings, fresh off a hard fought victory in the first round, are poised to build on their momentum as they face off against the Islanders. With a combination of a decent offense and solid defense, the Kings will look to impose their will on the court and advance to the next round. On the other side, the Islanders will enter this round confident after a successful regular season. Armed with a relentless work ethic and a never say die attitude , the Islanders will be eager to start their playoff journey with a statement win over the Kings.

Generals steam roll past Rated R

(9)Generals vs Rated R(1)

The Generals offensive prowess was on full display, with their forwards weaving intricate patterns and unleashing a barrage of shots on Rated R’s goaltender. Each goal seemed to come effortlessly, as the Generals exploited every gap in Rated R’s defense with clinical precision. But it wasn’t just the offense that shone for the Generals; their defense was equally formidable. With a combination of stout defending and quick transitions, they stifled Rated R’s attempts to mount any sort of comeback. The only thing that was worth searching for at one point was to simply get on board at least once. Eventually, that moment occurred in the third period thanks to M.DelGaudio. Perhaps, P.Blais would have preferred a clean sheet, but the net minder didn’t have much to complain about since his team was far and beyond superior on this particular night. The Generals have many weapons that can put up some nice numbers statistically. Tonight however, D.Lafleur can gloat about his performance as the forward had a night to remember posting three goals for a hat trick.

Fatal Demons third period blitz overwhelms Brew Crew

(11)Fatal Demons vs Brew Crew(3)

The game kicked off with no indicator of where it was headed. The two teams kept going back and forth trading some decent chances with neither side grabbing a sufficient edge. By the time the second period ended, the Fatal Demons found themselves ahead 4-3 suggesting for a nail biting third period. That couldn’t be further than the case however . The Fatal Demons offense exploded into action, overwhelming the Brew Crew with relentless pressure and precision passing. While many contributed offensively, there was no question C.Gingras had something to do with the onslaught. He decided to take a more selfish role by bagging five total goals without going with at least an assist. Some of the playmaking responsibilities went to M.Mavroudis, who normally likes to score, but decided to play nice instead setting up four tallies. Defensively, the Fatal Demons locked things down for a good chunk of the game which can be attributed to R.Ranieri’s stellar play between the pipes. Although the score line suggests for a total beat down, the Brew Crew were able to hang with the Fatal Demons for two straight periods until falling apart by the third.

P.Musto shines as Armadillos defeat Krazy Train with stellar power play

(4)Armadillos vs Krazy Train(2)

In a high energy ball hockey clash, the Armadillos showcased their dominance with a strategic blend of power play finesse and rock solid defense. P.Musto’s presence on the power play proved to be a game changer as he netted not one, but two blistering goals with pin point accuracy , leaving the opposing goaltender stunned. Undeterred by the set back, the Krazy Train fought back with vigor, launching a series of attacks in hopes of tying the game. As they tried to get close by pulling within one, the Armadillos had a swift response to regain a two goal cushion. P.Arkalis used a perfect top corner shot  late in the first period with his first of two on the night. The Armadillos played a smart and structured game to defeat a formidable opponent. They capitalised on the power play, their defensive line stood firm, and A.Ekonomakis is always an exceptional last line of defense making it very difficult for any opponent to be beat.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Paolo Musto of the Armadillos. With two blistering power play goals and an assist to his name, the veterans performance was nothing short of spectacular, leaving a lasting impact on the outcome of the game.

Rangers roar to early lead but fall short in thrilling showdown with the Senators

(7)Rangers vs Senators( 8 )

The Rangers were able to storm out of the gate with fervor, displaying remarkable skill and determination. With crisp passes and sharp shots , they quickly established a commanding lead, igniting the crowd with anticipation and excitement. A.Vennucci and M. DelGaudio posed most of the threats up front as both players combined for eight points. However, their early dominance wasn’t to last. Despite their initial momentum, the Senators refused to yield, mounting a relentless comeback effort. They slowly chipped away at the Rangers lead on a variation of brilliant plays and individual efforts. J.Teresi made sure to convert on a penalty shot for his second, and M.DaDSilva along with T.Nardelli each scored late to help secure a thrilling come-from behind win for the Senators.

The Allo Mon Coco Ste Dorothee player of the game goes to Joey Teresi of the Senators. Throughout the intense contest, J.Teresi played a pivotal role in both zones of the court. He controlled the flow of the play, and kept the Senators attack buzzing while also diligently fulfilling his defensive responsibilities.

Golden Knights overcome early struggles to outlast Blues

(6)Blues vs Golden Knights(9)

A sluggish start didn’t prevent the Golden Knights-from turning the tides against the Blues on Wednesday night. The game kicked off with the Blues setting a blistering pace, capitalizing on the Golden Knights slow start to build an early lead. With everything clicking just fine, they seemed poised to dominate the match-from the outset. The early adversity didn’t affect the Golden Knights however. By slowly regrouping and taking it a shift at a time, they were able to gradually find their rhythm, and set the tone for the rest of the match. Kick-starting the offense was M.Zuccaro netting a pair in the first seventeen minute of play. Then, as the game moved forward, M.DiLena went on a tear bagging three straight markers in only ten minutes. S.Lacasse was also heavily involved as the forward notched his second to provide some insurance. The Blues were stuck wondering how they couldn’t slow down the relentless pressure put forth by the Golden Knights. What once looked like a promising start to their night, turned into a disappointing struggle as the Golden Knights seized control of the game.

The Allo Mon Coco Ste Dorothee player of the game goes to Jerry Pendino of the Golden Knights. Despite being a defenseman not typically recognized for his offensive contributions , J.Pendino turned heads with a remarkably productive display, showcasing his versatility and skill in all aspects of the game. By the time the match ended, Pendino scored once, set up three goals while anchoring the Golden Knights back line with sound positioning.

F.Bchara’s six goal spectacle leads Hurricanes to epic comeback win over Stars

(5)Stars vs Hurricanes(7)

The Stars seemed to have control for the majority of the match, building a solid 4-2 lead over the Hurricanes. With their pedigree on how to get results as a front runner this season, they appeared poised to secure a decisive win. Rather than playing it smart on a responsible defensive game, the Stars may have taken their entire situation for granted. What happened in the final portion of the game will be reminder on how to make sure to take every shift seriously if you plan to succeed. Luckily, the collapse they endured doesn’t change much in the grand scheme of things since they locked up first place of the division. The epic collapse was staged by one particular player who single handily shifted the momentum in the Hurricanes favour. Known for his sharpshooting skills and blistering shot, F.Bchara dismantled the Stars defence finding the back of the net an astonishing six times. It was clear that the Stars didn’t get the fax, the memo, the e-mail or the texts messages that F.Bchara is a goal scoring machine. Maybe if both teams meet up in the near future, the Stars will be reminded to stay focus on how to neutralise the Hurricanes threat.

The Allo Mon Coco Ste Dorothee player of the game goes to Fadl Bchara of the Hurricanes. Bchara’s extraordinary feat of scoring a whopping six goals in the last portion of the game propelled the Hurricanes to a stunning comeback win over the division leaders.

In the heart of the week, amidst the fervor of competition, the Wednesday Draft Division league reached its climax on Wednesday night, marking conclusion of the regular season. With all seven teams gearing up for the playoffs, anticipation was high as the stage was set for the ultimate showdown. Leading the pack among all seven contenders is the Stars, who will be the only team to skip the first round for reaching the top of the standings. The match ups concerning the six teams are as follows:

(2)Golden Knights vs Rangers(7) The Golden Knights, known for their formidable offense and stout defence, enter this match up vs the Rangers as the favourites. It won’t change the fact that the Rangers will be ready to embrace the challenge. With a mix of veteran leadership and youthful energy, they are poised to give their all in pursuit of post season glory.

(3)Hurricanes vs Oilers(6) The Hurricanes lethal offense led by F.BcHara is set to collide with the gritty determination of the Oilers, promising a showdown of two willing opponents that will fight for every inch of the court. As the two teams prepare to square off, fans can expect a clash of styles and battle of wills.

(4)Blues vs Senators(5) The Senators, riding a wave of momentum heading into the playoffs, have been on fire as of late, stringing together a series of victories and showcasing their offensive prowess. With dynamic playmakers and sharpshooters leading the charge, they have the ability to put goals in bunches and keep opposing goaltenders on their toes throughout the game. Meanwhile, the Blues bring a balanced and versatile approach to the table, with a line up that boasts strength in all areas of the game. Like the other two series, expect this one to be just as exhilarating.

(6)Team Canada vs Team Haiti(1)

In a commanding display of skill and team work, Team Canada made a resounding statement in their season opener, dispatching Team Haiti with a decisive victory that showcased their strength as an immediate front runner in the division. With precision passing, relentless pressure, and clinical finishing, they quickly established control of the game and set the tone for the rest of the match up. M.David made an immediate impression riffling two first period goals. As the game progressed, Team Canada continued to pile on the pressure , extending their lead with each passing period. Its worth noting that C.Gervais made a huge impact as the solid forward was a force producing four points. While the offense will never be an issue along with a structured defence, Team Canada has another vital area covered in their team make up, and that’s their goaltending. C.Lantin occupies that position, and unless you beat him good, the net minder will deny you. Tonight, he faced some decent chances only to have C.Plaisir get the better of him. In the end, Team Canada emerged victorious with a commanding 6-1 win, sending a clear message to the rest of the league that they are a force to be reckoned with.

M-A Haber and O.Wahid help propel Team Pakistan to victory

(1)Team Armenia vs Team Pakistan(4)

In a pivotal second period, M-A Haber emerged as the catalyst for Team Pakistan, netting two crucial goals with the help of his captain O.Wahid. As the game reached its critical juncture, Haber showcased his scoring prowess with clinical precision to help put his side up 3-1 heading into the third. The dynamic duo of Haber and Wahid proved to be unstoppable during that span. That was just part of the story line as Team Pakistan got a well rounded effort -from everyone. A.Chaudury had his fingerprints on the score sheet as well posting two big goals. It may not have been the result they were hoping for, but Team Armenia’s performance was characterised by moments of inspiration and resilience, as they never allowed themselves to be discouraged or overwhelmed by the circumstances. Instead, they remained focused and committed to their game plan, pushing themselves to the limit in pursuit of victory. Penguins outlast Ducks in overtime thriller

(7)Ducks vs Penguins( 8 )O.T

From-start to finish, the game was a roller coaster ride with both teams leaving it all on the court. The Ducks showcased their resilience throughout the game repeatedly battling back-from deficits to keep the pressure on the Penguins. Their determination was evident as they refused to let the Penguins pull away, constantly clawing their way back into contention. Much of the offense was created by T.Nardelli, who hit his target five times to get the better of B.Mourad. However, despite the Ducks relentless efforts, the Penguins proved to be just as tenacious. Since regulation time didn’t quite solve anything, both sides entered a sudden death frame in search of their next tally. That’s when the Penguins seized their moment with the extra space available. On a clear three vs two play, S.Sicuso sneaked his way into the open space where he released a precise top corner to beat A.Benedetto for his second.

The Allo Mon Coco Ste Dorothee player of the game goes to Sebastian Sicuso of the Penguins. As the pressure mounted and the tensions running high, S.Sicuso’s impact only grew stronger as the slick d-man used a blistering  slap shot to end the game.

From-close start to commanding finish, Sharks overpower Canucks

(4)Canucks vs Sharks( 8 )

In a match up that began with both teams testing each others mettle, the Sharks steadily gained momentum to emerge victorious in a commanding win over the Canucks. The game kicked off with a tight start as the Sharks and Canucks engaged in a back and fort battle, each team trading scoring chances and defensive stops. Despite the close start, it was evident that the Sharks were determined to assert their dominance as the game progressed. Although much of the offense was spread out, Y.Bernier added a little more mustard to his game by rattling off a hat trick. B.Travisano had an impact as well collecting four points while D.Apikian was a wall in net denying plenty of shots toward him. Whatever the causes are for the Canucks poor play without the ball, they’ll  need to figure out on how to tighten the bolts a little harder. Its not like they don’t have the hardware in their tool box with players such as T.Bergomi, E.Collela and M.Porato just to name a few.

The Allo Mon Coco Ste Dorothee player of the game goes to Yannick Bernier of the Sharks. The forward took centre stage in this one delivering a productive performance. By the time it was said and done, Bernier led all teammates with an impressive five points that included a hat trick.

Les Yables battle back to force draw against DHK in intense rematch

As expected, Les Yables and the DHK clashed in two heart pounding battles that had everyone on the edge of their seats. The first encounter was filled with high lite- reel goals, and end to end action that carried through for the entire four periods. N.St-Onge snapped a 3-3 tie for Les Yables hoping that it would stick. Instead, the DHK surged on a barrage of goals with scoring efforts-form three different players in a very short span. Although Les Yables battled back with their net minder pulled on a pair of tallies, the comeback effort fell short as time expired. It was clear that Les Yables wanted nothing less than to even the score in the ensuing match. Unfortunately, they were stuck enduing a slow start by giving up two goals, but that didn’t stop them for seeking some redemption. By the time the first period ended, M.Brouillard had tallied twice along with P.Corbin chipping in for a 3-2 lead. The final frame continued with both teams fiercely battling to get an edge. The DHK managed to overcome a pair of slight deficits which eventually forced a shootout competition. With neither side able to pull ahead, the score remained a draw .

Chiefs bounce back to even series with Hustlers

The opening game saw the Hustlers use a strong finish in order to get the better of the Chiefs. A.Kobayati had tied the game on the power play, and T.Bozinakis provided a huge go ahead marker with a blistering slap shot leaving less than two minutes on the clock. The Chiefs nearly forced a shootout as they kept pressing for the equaliser with the extra attacker. But with C.Stavriadis guarding his cage, the net minder held firm making key saves in order to preserve the win. It was expected that the Chiefs would come out with more urgency after suffering a loss. Their determination to bounce back showed almost immediately as they took the first period with authority. After getting goals-from three different players, S.Vanier converted for his second early in the final frame for a commanding four goal cushion. The margin was perhaps to much to overcome for the Hustlers. They did manage to get the games next two goals by M.Batri and P.Arkalis, but time wasn’t a luxury they had anymore. By displaying resilience and tenacity, the Chiefs made sure to not go empty handed.

Degenerates stage late comeback to split with Assadi Consulting inc

Down 3-0 early in the second period, the Degenerates were put on the back foot with no signs of good things to come. Sometimes, its all about getting a positive in order to prepare yourself for a better second game. That being said, the Degenerates actually came close to stunning the Assadi Consulting inc. With their net minder pulled, they managed two goals to pull themselves within one with enough time left over. After some limited attempts, P.Assadi held firm in net to secure a nail biter. Entering the second game, the Degenerates faced an identical situation trailing 3-0. Undeterred by their horrible start however, the Degenerates simply kept at in search of getting that first goal. Once S.Marricco provided it on the power play, the hope was there for more to come. It wasn’t up until they were forced to pull their net minder  in order to get some scoring done. They managed again to score twice in that situation which in this particular case forced a shootout. With both sides sending some of their high end players to take the breakaways, M.Richrad was the only successful one to figure out the goaltenders. R.Ranieri never flinched as the seasoned goaltender remained poised and confident to getting the job done. It wasn’t their best overall night, but the Degenerates showed resilience throughout both games getting four of their five goals with their net minder pulled.

(4)GK vs Capitals(2)

GK surge early in third period to top Capitals

Despite giving up the opening and closing goal of the game, the rest in between belonged to the GK. The Capitals managed to hang in there long enough but eventually realised it was done when M.David and F.Belisle each struck early in the third period for a 4-1 lead. It was clear that the up hill battle from that point on felt unrealistic for the Capitals having to go up against a team can shut anybody down. In his season debut, P-O Girouard did not disappoint forming his brick wall structure stopping close to 20 shots. The win saw four different players cash in with M.David’s third period marker holding up for the winner.

(2)Montreal As vs Black Knights(5)

Y.Derohannessian’s late shorty seals the deal for the Black Knights

Y.Derohannessian couldn’t have picked a better time than to notch a shorthanded goal. Although the Black Knights were in front 3-2, that tally pretty much summed up the game between the two sides with just over three minutes remaining. It was an overall solid performance from the two teams with each side carrying the play. M.Ianovale struck first to get the balling rolling for the Montreal As and didn’t give up their first tally till the four minute mark of the second period. Once the game was tied, J.Gagne took over bagging two in a row to put the Black Knights in the drivers seat. A.Lemay did eventually respond to reduce the gap but it was all for nothing as Derohannessian struck shortly after with a huge blow.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to Jonathan Gagne of the Black Knights. Big time players know when to show up when the game is on the line. J.Gagne was proof of that once again for the Black Knights collecting back to back tallies after snapping a dead lock 1-1 tie.

Team Canada’s victory over Team Haiti sets tone for the season

In the end, while the result may not have gone in their favour, Team Armenia’s valiant effort and fighting spirit did not go unnoticed.

The SalumiVino player of the night goes to M-A Haber of Team Pakistan. His ability to capitalise on scoring opportunities not only bolstered Team Pakistan’s lead, but also shifted the momentum decisively in their favour.
