The Canadian Ball Hockey Association is pleased to announce the staff for Men’s Masters Team Canada for the 2016 ISBHF World Masters Championships in Banff.
Matt Halverson, Delta (BC), Therapist
Andrew Stagg, Corner Brook (NFLD), Therapist
William Marr, Dartmouth (NS), Equipment manager
Nick Sbarra, Montreal (QC), Assistant coach
Terry Richards, Cobourg (ON), Assistant coach
Mark Guergis, Barrie (ON), Assistant coach
Matt Halverson has already proven himself when working with Masters Team Canada. This will be his 4th experience as a dedicated therapist for this team. This championship is going to be his 7th international event in 7 years. He also worked as a therapist in the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver.
Andrew Stagg will complete the therapist team. Since 2011, Andrew works as a team massage therapist for the St. John’s Icecaps, the farm team of the Montreal Canadians (formerly associated with the Winnipeg Jets). He has also shown his great skills in two World Ball Hockey Championships, in 2013 and 2015.
William Marr is another great new asset to our team. As an equipment manager, he worked in 2015 with the Women’s Team Canada in the World Championship in Zug, Switzerland. In the past 20 years, he devoted himself to several hockey teams as a medical trainer and equipment manager.
For a second time, Nick Sbarra will also be part of the team as an assistant coach. Recently, he was a staff member for the CBHA junior performance camp in Ontario in 2015. But mostly, he worked with the coaching team when winning the Gold in Tampa in 2014. Without a doubt, he will bring his passion for the game and his intensity to our team.
Terry Richards will also bring his experience as an assistant coach for our team. Being GM, coach and player for 20 years, Terry has an impressive ball hockey resume. He coached the All-Stars Rep Hockey in Ontario for 6 years. He is also an Ontario ball hockey Hall of Famer.
The other addition to the coaching staff is Mark Guergis. In the past two years, Mark has participated in international events as a player : the 2014 World Masters in Tampa and the 2015 World Championship in Zug with Armenia. In Banff, he will bring his knowledge of the game and his attention to details as an assistant coach.
Congratulations to all of these talented members of the team for their nomination. I am thrilled to have such a strong staff working for our team and I can’t wait to work with all of you, bringing our team to excellence.
François Chalut, Châteauguay (QC)
General Manager/Head coach
